307: Chapter 37 New and Old Grudges
Shen Yan was about to shake his head when he remembered that Security Captain.
Then, with a look of sudden realization, he replied, "Last time I taught a Security Captain a lesson at their company entrance... so they know about it?!"
Shen Ya nodded and replied through gritted teeth, "They don't just know. A fifth of the Employees in the company went to watch. Not only that, they even recorded a video and sent it to the company's main group chat."
Hearing this, Shen Yan blinked and asked Shen Ya, "Then did you see the video too?"
Shen Ya shook her head and replied:
"Not really. They just told me about it. Anyway, I'm completely famous at the company now because of you. Everyone says I'm the Big Shot's sister, and they keep asking why a Big Shot's sister is working in conference service."
As she spoke, her mood visibly dampened.
"Now that everyone thinks I'm a Big Shot's sister, they're afraid to give me any work. I just slack off at the company all day; it's not interesting at all..."
Shen Yan frowned and said, "Are they ostracizing you because of this?"
Shen Ya shook her head again.
"It's not ostracism. Everyone is very nice to me, but they're afraid I'll resent them if I have too much work, so they don't dare give me anything to do."
Knowing that Shen Ya wasn't being ostracized, Shen Yan breathed a sigh of relief.
"Since they're unwilling to give you work, you should take the initiative to find something to do yourself."
"I can't go to your company and tell them I'm not a Big Shot, nor can I make them forget that I taught their Security Captain a lesson at the entrance."
"Since you want to stand on your own two feet, you have to learn how to handle this situation yourself."
Shen Ya lowered her head and replied, "I know I should handle it myself, but I just haven't figured out how. Do you have any good suggestions?"
Although Shen Yan intended for Shen Ya to learn how to handle such things on her own, he didn't mean to completely leave her to it.
He thought for a moment and then replied to Shen Ya, "Aren't you working in conference service right now? In that case, go see how other floors do things and find out what their respective jobs involve."
"When they're too busy to keep up, go and help them out."
Shen Ya tilted her head.
"And then?"
Shen Yan replied, caught between laughter and tears, "Then you'll have to figure it out yourself. You don't really plan on listening to me for everything, do you? Didn't you say you wanted to be independent?"
Shen Ya pursed her lips.
She had been too well-protected in the past.
Before the car accident, she was sheltered under her parents' wings.
After the accident, she was brought into a safe zone by her brother.
Because she had always been protected, she lacked experience in handling various matters and habitually relied on those around her.
She knew this was wrong, but she couldn't help it.
Seeing Shen Ya's mood sinking lower, Shen Yan walked over and patted her shoulder, saying, "Alright, don't think too much."
"Actually, this kind of thing is simple. As long as you learn to help them and let them know you're someone willing to work, they won't withhold work from you anymore."
"After all, no one can resist a sensible and kind young girl."
Shen Ya's face turned red, and she uncomfortably slapped Shen Yan's hand away.
"I'm not a sensible and kind young girl!"
Shen Yan said dotingly.
"Right, right, right. You're not; I'm the sensible and kind young girl. Is that better?"
Shen Ya: "You're so shameless."
Shen Yan: "..."
Fine!
He would spoil his own sister himself!
...
Meanwhile, inside Imperial Heaven.
"Did you call me out just to drink with me?"
Mei Jinning sat with her legs crossed, idly swirling the red wine in her glass.
Gu Hui picked up the wine glass on the table, clinked it against Mei Jinning's, and replied, "We haven't had a private chat in a long time."
As he finished speaking.
Mei Jinning burst out laughing.
She placed her wine glass back on the table and looked at Gu Hui leisurely, saying, "The relationship between us doesn't seem to be one where we can have private chats, does it?"
Gu Hui took a sip of the wine.
"I thought that after so much time had passed, we both would have moved on."
Mei Jinning rolled her eyes.
"Get straight to the point. Don't say things that disgust me."
Gu Hui gave a light chuckle.
"Fine, since you've put it that way, I'll be direct. Don't cooperate with Shen Yan. Stay away from him."
Mei Jinning looked as if she had heard a very funny joke, her eyes full of amusement.
"Who I want to cooperate with or be with is none of your business."
"Just because you say I shouldn't cooperate with him, I won't? Gu Hui, who do you think you are?"
As she finished.
The veins on Gu Hui's hand bulged.
"Mei Jinning, don't refuse a polite offer only to be forced. The only reason I'm still speaking nicely to you is that I don't want to raise a hand against you."
"Don't forget, the five of us are currently in an Alliance. If you insist on getting involved with Shen Yan, then don't blame us for kicking you out of the Alliance."
Mei Jinning replied with a fake smile, "Then kick me out. I stopped caring about cooperating with you all a long time ago."
*Crash!*
Gu Hui smashed his wine glass against the wall, shattering it into pieces.
"Mei Jinning! I'm warning you, don't refuse a polite offer only to be forced!"
"I finally found such a useful blade; don't you dare stop me!"
Mei Jinning wiped the smile from her face and looked at Gu Hui expressionlessly, saying, "Gu Hui, in all your years of living, have you ever heard a certain saying?"
Gu Hui knew that whatever Mei Jinning was about to say would be unpleasant. He said to her, "I'm not going to talk about nonsense with you. I'm just asking you one thing: are you willing to cooperate with us or not?"
Mei Jinning ignored his question and continued where she left off, "The saying is 'what goes around comes around, and retribution is certain.' Do you believe that what you've done will eventually come back to haunt you?"
Gu Hui's face visibly turned extremely ugly.
Seeing him so upset, Mei Jinning finally felt satisfied.
"Hahaha, alright, I'm done talking to you. If we keep going, the uncouth CEO Gu will probably smash everything in this private room."
With that, she stood up and walked toward the door.
Just as Mei Jinning was about to leave the room, Gu Hui, standing inside, suddenly spoke to her back.
"The matter of the cooperation was something Shen Yan told me himself. He used it to show his loyalty to me. You can give up on that idea."
Mei Jinning slowly turned her head, a sneer curling her lips.
