Chen Guangke shook his head hurriedly.

"No thanks, better save this package for someone else!"

Walking out of the police station, they happened to run into Xiaobao's owner—Wu Ya.

Seeing them, a flash of surprise crossed Wu Ya's eyes.

"You guys were released so quickly?"

Chen Guangke curled his lip and put his hands in his pockets.

"What, do you actually want to see us locked up?"

Wu Ya laughed, knowing Chen Guangke was teasing her.

"I didn't mean that, of course. What about the person who was sent to the hospital?"

"Him? He's perfectly fine! Not even a scratch on him!"

Chen Guangke rolled his eyes.

The man's acting was so good that even he was almost fooled.

Knowing it was nothing serious, Wu Ya breathed a sigh of relief.

"Alright, wait here for a moment. I'm going to file a report."

Shen Yan froze for a moment. "File a report?"

Wu Ya nodded without much explanation and rushed into the station with her phone in hand.

Meeting like this was fate.

Since the two of them had nothing else to do anyway, they simply stood there and waited for Wu Ya to come out.

Half an hour later, Wu Ya emerged from the police station.

"Great! I thought you guys had left!"

Chen Guangke's lip twitched, his face full of speechlessness.

"Didn't you tell us to wait here for you?"

Wu Ya chuckled and scratched her head. "Oh, well, I didn't know if you'd actually listen to me..."

"Anyway, enough of that. You've helped me so much; I must treat you to a meal tomorrow!"

Shen Yan wanted to decline, but seeing her firm attitude, he didn't say anything.

After finding a random restaurant and heading inside, they sat down to chat.

"Were you guys at Seaview Park looking for work?"

Hearing the question, Chen Guangke shook his head.

"No, we were there to recruit people."

Wu Ya paused, a look of surprise appearing in her eyes.

"You guys are bosses?!"

Chen Guangke was a bit dissatisfied. Did he not look like a boss?

"What do you mean by that? Do we not look like bosses?"

Wu Ya nodded honestly.

Just then, the Waitress arrived with their food.

Wu Ya moved aside for the Waitress to serve the dishes while asking them, "Are you running a shop or a company? What do you do?"

Shen Yan replied, "We develop software. It's not a company or a shop, just a small studio."

Wu Ya's eyes widened, and she smiled.

"What a coincidence! I develop software too! What's the name of your studio?"

At those words, Shen Yan and Chen Guangke exchanged a knowing look and replied in unison:

"The name isn't important! What's important is, are you willing to join our studio?"

Seeing how enthusiastic they were, Wu Ya instinctively felt something was off.

"Although I just resigned not long ago, but..."

Before she could finish, Chen Guangke snapped his fingers.

"Perfect! It really is fate! Since we're recruiting and you're looking for work, why don't you just come work at our studio!"

Wu Ya waved her hands hurriedly.

"Wait... you haven't even seen my resume or known my capabilities yet!"

Shen Yan's lips curled up slightly.

Capability was important, of course, but their studio was currently broke and had nothing.

If they followed the normal recruitment process, they definitely wouldn't be able to hire anyone.

"Just say whether you're willing to come to our studio or not!"

Obviously, Chen Guangke shared Shen Yan's sentiment; being able to recruit anyone at all was a blessing, so they couldn't ask for more.

Wu Ya agreed after only a few seconds of hesitation.

She had originally resigned to focus all her energy on finding Xiaobao.

Since they helped her find Xiaobao, she definitely had to repay the favor.

After successfully recruiting someone, the pressure on Shen Yan and Chen Guangke's minds eased considerably.

After a brief introduction, they gave Wu Ya the address of the warehouse and told her to report to the studio at ten tomorrow morning.

Wu Ya readily agreed, completely unaware of the reality she was about to face tomorrow.

After parting ways, Shen Yan followed Chen Guangke to the hospital.

"Is this little bit of fruit enough?"

"It's definitely enough! My mom can't eat much right now. Just visiting her will make her very happy."

As they spoke, the two of them reached the door of the hospital ward.

Chen Guangke's mother was looking at her phone; seeing him arrive, she immediately put it down happily and waved at him.

"Yanyan is here? Quick, come in!"

Their last meeting was only half a year ago, and Shen Yan remembered that Chen Guangke's mother was a bit chubby back then.

Seeing her this time, she had become as thin as a skeleton.

He felt sad in his heart but didn't let it show on his face.

"Auntie Chen, I'm sorry for only coming to see you now."

Auntie Chen gave him a reproachful look.

"Don't I know you? It must be because Xiao Ke didn't tell you about this, which is why you didn't come to see me."

"Besides, your own affairs are already troublesome enough; I didn't want my situation to add to your worries."

Shen Yan shook his head and stepped forward to place the fruit basket on the table.

"Regardless, it was my fault for not coming to see you sooner."

Auntie Chen's eyes reddened. Taking Shen Yan's hand, she said, "You child, really... Tell me, why don't good things happen to good people?"

Auntie Chen truly felt sorry for Shen Yan.

He was originally such a fine-looking, good man with a career and a family—how did he end up with nothing now?

His sister was in a coma from a car accident, his parents had passed away in a car accident, and his wife had even conspired with others to betray him and take away his family property.

How could all these things happen to just one person?!

Just thinking about it made her tears fall.

Shen Yan hadn't expected that he would barely say two words to Auntie Chen...

...before she started crying first.

"Auntie Chen, please don't cry. Are you feeling unwell? Do you need me to call a doctor?"

Chen Guangke clicked his tongue and patted his shoulder.

"My mom isn't feeling unwell; she's crying for you."

Shen Yan raised an eyebrow. "Crying for me?"

Chen Guangke hummed in affirmation and replied, "Because you always act tough in front of us, never shedding a single tear or complaining about your hardships."

Shen Yan laughed and gave Chen Guangke a light kick.

"Get lost, your Brother Shen is doing just fine!"

Seeing the two of them fooling around like usual, Auntie Chen nodded with relief.

"Seeing the two of you still getting along so well as before puts my mind at ease."

After chatting about some trivial matters with Auntie Chen, Shen Yan planned to head home.

Just as he was about to leave, the unique electronic voice of the Monopoly system sounded in his ear.

【Ding! A special task has been dropped: Please help a patient on the third floor catch a thief.】

Shen Yan raised an eyebrow; he hadn't expected thieves' business to extend to hospitals now.

But he didn't even know who the thief was; how was he supposed to catch them?
