15: Chapter 15 Unexpected Events

The scent of lemon-flavored solid air freshener wafted through the cramped space.

Shen Yan looked at Little Tao with a complicated expression and asked, "Are you sure you want to keep hiding in here?"

Little Tao nodded without hesitation. "That's right! I'm staying right here. I'd rather die than have surgery!"

Shen Yan nodded and placed his hand on the latch of the restroom door.

"Fine, then you stay here. I'm heading out."

Little Tao hurriedly stopped him.

"No way! If you open the door, they'll definitely come in. You can't leave!"

Shen Yan didn't know whether to laugh or cry. He pointed at himself.

"Then why did you drag me in here with you?"

Little Tao stared at him with sparkling eyes and said, "Because you're a superhero with special powers!"

Shen Yan was speechless.

He realized he couldn't communicate with this person at all.

His sister was still waiting for him at home; he didn't want to keep wasting time here.

Taking advantage of Little Tao's distraction, he swiftly unbolted the restroom door.

The door opened, and Little Tao's family successfully made it inside.

As soon as they entered, Shen Yan stepped aside to let the family reunite.

"Alright, if there's nothing else, I'll be going now."

With that, he prepared to turn and leave.

"Wait! Young man, hold on a moment!"

Little Tao's father stopped him and took out a business card.

"Thank you, young man. I heard from the nurse at the station that if it weren't for you, he would have run off."

Shen Yan took the card and looked at it.

Whoa! He was the president of a company; it looked like he had quite the status.

But if Little Tao's family was so wealthy, why was he trying to run away?

Thinking this, he couldn't help but voice his confusion.

Little Tao's father sighed and replied, "He has bone cancer. Now that the cancer cells are worsening, he must undergo amputation... He... he's still so young..."

As he spoke, the man's eyes reddened.

Shen Yan patted his shoulder understandingly.

"It's alright, everything will pass. Your son will surely get better."

The man gripped his hand and nodded heavily.

"You're right, my son will definitely get better. Young man, what is your name?"

"My name is Shen Yan."

After some brief pleasantries, Shen Yan stopped bothering the family reunion and turned to leave the hospital.

Leaving the hospital, he boarded a bus.

On the way, he opened the advanced wealth intelligence rewarded by the system.

[advanced wealth intelligence: Chengwen Company has recently been heavily investing in emerging industries, with investment amounts ranging from three to eight million.]

Almost the second after seeing this information,

Shen Yan understood the meaning of this advanced wealth intelligence.

The software development he was currently doing was for Hengtian Company.

In plain terms: he was selling the software in his hands to Hengtian Company.

No matter how much profit Hengtian Company eventually made from this software, he could only get a fraction of a percent in royalties.

Because he was just the seller.

But if he could create a software and get investment from Chengwen Company, then he could establish a new company of his own!

However, while it was easy to say, Shen Yan hadn't yet figured out exactly how to do it.

"Now arriving at Tangang."

While lost in thought, he had arrived at the bus stop near his home.

Getting off the bus, he walked under the flickering streetlights.

To be honest, seeing that person named Little Tao surrounded by so many family members today made him quite envious.

Four months ago, he also had a very happy family.

If not for that car accident, his sister would probably still be smiling sweetly and calling him "Brother," and his parents would be nagging him to take care of his health and eat on time.

Memories were like a whirlpool, pulling Shen Yan back into the past.

It wasn't until he saw Brother Sun acting suspiciously at the door that he suddenly snapped back to reality.

"Brother Sun? Why are you here?"

"Oh, right, I'll transfer that four thousand yuan to you right now."

Hearing this, Brother Sun hurriedly stopped him.

"Xiao Shen! That's not why I'm here. You can give me that four thousand yuan whenever!"

Shen Yan was stunned for a moment and asked Brother Sun, "Then what is this about...?"

Brother Sun pursed his lips, his face full of apology.

"Xiao Shen, don't blame me. I really have no choice... Your Sister-in-law Sun and I bought several batches of goods, but they're stuck in our hands. We're out of cash now, so I'm thinking of selling this single room..."

"Selling it?!"

Shen Yan was shocked; he hadn't expected Brother Sun's financial situation to have deteriorated this much.

Brother Sun felt ashamed and kept his head down, refusing to look at Shen Yan.

"Yeah... selling it to someone to use as a warehouse. I expect it'll happen by next month, so Xiao Shen, you might have to find another place to live."

Shen Yan frowned. He had some money now, so finding another place to live wouldn't be a problem.

What he didn't understand was how Brother Sun's financial situation could have suddenly become so dire.

"Brother Sun, you don't need to apologize to me for this. This is your home after all. I'm already very grateful that you were willing to rent it to me at such a low price."

"It's just... why can't you move the goods you have?"

Brother Sun took out a cigarette pack and offered one to Shen Yan.

Shen Yan shook his head and declined. "I've quit smoking now."

Brother Sun nodded, put a cigarette in his mouth, flicked his lighter for a deep drag, and exhaled a smoke ring. "You know, usually your Sister-in-law Sun and I do a bit of small business aside from collecting rent."

"Recently, we poured a lot of money into several batches of tea, but that son of a bitch partner offered a dirt-cheap price. If we sell at his price, forget about making money—we'd lose our shirts!"

"We had no choice, so your Sister-in-law Sun and I have to hold onto the stock for now. But without moving the goods, we don't have any money..."

At this point, Sister-in-law Sun also came over. She smoothed her hair and said, "Alright, you two shouldn't just squat at the door talking. Come inside and chat."

Shen Yan and Brother Sun exchanged a look, nodded, and went into Brother Sun's home together.

As soon as they entered, Sister-in-law Sun poured Shen Yan a cup of tea.

"Have some tea."

Shen Yan thanked her and took a few sips.

After smacking his lips a few times, he asked Brother Sun, "Is this the batch of tea you bought? The taste is actually quite good."

Brother Sun said smugly, "Of course! We went to a lot of trouble to get this!"

Hearing this, Shen Yan grew even more puzzled.

"In that case, why can't this tea be sold?"

Sister-in-law Sun walked over and sat opposite Shen Yan, replying, "It's a long story. To put it simply, that partner is taking advantage of our lack of connections and trying to crush us with the price."

After listening, Shen Yan lowered his head in thought.

Seeing him silent, Sister-in-law Sun nudged Brother Sun with her elbow.

"Xiao Shen, we're sorry about this. If you resent us, we'll accept it. Someone is coming to see the house tomorrow; when would it be convenient for you?"
