6: Chapter 6 A Chance Encounter

Five minutes later, a middle-aged man in his forties walked in from outside the office.

Shen Yan immediately stood up when he saw him.

"Are you here for an interview?"

The man sat on the sofa, his gaze scrutinizing Shen Yan.

Shen Yan nodded, taking his resume out of his briefcase and handing it to the man.

"Yes, I'm here to apply for a Project Manager position."

The man took the resume, glanced at it, and then tossed it onto the table without a second look.

"Just tell me directly. How many projects have you completed before joining our company, and what are all your client resources?"

Shen Yan recited his pre-prepared speech, not missing a single word.

However, the other party waved his hand and interrupted him before he had even spoken two sentences.

"Wait! You used to work in the internet industry?"

Shen Yan paused, then nodded.

"Yes, I used to work in the internet industry."

The man shook his head.

"Then your background doesn't match our specialization."

Shen Yan pursed his lips.

He knew the chances of success were slim even before he came.

After all, his previous professional experience didn't align with Hengtian Company's job requirements.

But even so, he still wanted to try harder.

Just as he was about to make his case, a familiar voice came from outside the office.

"Old Bai, what I mentioned in the meeting earlier..."

Mid-sentence, the speaker choked.

Shen Yan turned around and found that the speaker was Sun Yang, whom he had met last night.

The other party was clearly surprised to see him too.

"Aren't you that young man from last night?"

Shen Yan nodded and replied, "I'm here for an interview."

Old Bai, who was sitting on the sofa, immediately stood up when he saw that the two knew each other.

"Chairman Sun, you know this young man?"

Sun Yang nodded and handed the documents in his hand to Old Bai.

"You go ahead with the interview; we can talk about the meeting later."

Old Bai bowed respectfully and nodded.

"Alright, no problem."

After giving his instructions, Sun Yang intended to leave.

Before leaving, he paused, turned, and said to Shen Yan, who was still standing in the office, "If you're free later, come to my office."

Shen Yan nodded in agreement.

As soon as Sun Yang left, Old Bai immediately asked Shen Yan excitedly.

"You know our Chairman?"

Shen Yan answered truthfully.

"I've only met him once."

Old Bai nodded, picked up the resume on the table, and began to read it.

"Your name is Shen Yan, right?"

"Shen Yan, it's not that I don't want to hire you, but your job direction really doesn't meet our requirements. How about this, you go to Chairman Sun's office and chat with him first?"

Chat with him?

Was he trying to sound out Sun Yang?

Shen Yan thought for a moment and didn't refuse.

"Alright, then where is Chairman Sun's office?"

Old Bai got up and walked out of the office, stopping an assistant who was passing by.

"Xiao Chen, take him to Chairman Sun's office."

Under Xiao Chen's guidance, Shen Yan successfully arrived at Sun Yang's office.

"Chairman Sun?"

Hearing the voice, Sun Yang put down his pen and looked up, saying, "You don't need to call me Chairman Sun like them. Just call me Old Sun."

Shen Yan smiled but didn't speak.

Seeing him standing, Sun Yang added, "Sit down. Don't be so polite with me. I just want to chat with you."

Shen Yan listened and sat opposite Sun Yang.

Sun Yang leaned back in his office chair and chatted casually with Shen Yan like a friend.

"What position are you interviewing for?"

"Project Manager."

Sun Yang nodded and walked over to pour tea.

"Have you done projects before?"

Shen Yan knew that Sun Yang intended to help him.

After all, the previous night, he had said he would help if there was anything needed.

But he wasn't going to morally obligate the other party.

"Chairman Sun, you don't need to ask. I don't fit this position."

Sun Yang placed the freshly poured tea in front of Shen Yan.

"Do you want this position? I can help you."

Shen Yan didn't expect Sun Yang to be so direct.

After a few seconds of surprise, he resolutely refused the offer.

"It's fine, I have hands and feet; I can find any job."

He had only intended to try here.

If this job didn't work out, he would just find the next one.

Moreover, he still had ordinary wealth intelligence.

He didn't need to morally obligate an elder to find a job.

But he didn't expect that as soon as he refused, Sun Yang would laugh.

"Hahaha, you're a really good young man. Don't worry, since you said you don't need it, I won't force you. Oh, by the way, can I see your resume?"

Shen Yan blinked and handed Sun Yang the resume he had just put back into his briefcase.

Time passed minute by minute.

After receiving the resume, Sun Yang had been silently looking at its contents.

Seeing his serious expression, Shen Yan didn't disturb him.

It wasn't until Shen Yan finished his third cup of tea that Sun Yang spoke.

"You used to run an internet company?"

Shen Yan nodded and answered truthfully.

"Yes, I used to start businesses by developing software."

Sun Yang closed the resume and sighed.

"I originally wanted to help you, but now it seems that you might have to help me."

Shen Yan was bewildered.

How could he help Sun Yang?

Since his confusion was evident on his face, Sun Yang didn't keep him in suspense and told him directly.

"I want to ask you to help me develop a software application."

Shen Yan asked curiously.

"What kind of software? Company punch-in software?"

Sun Yang shook his head and slowly explained the situation.

"Since you've come to apply for a job at our company, you should know that our company basically handles all kinds of businesses."

"In recent years, our business has become broader and broader, but our profits have fallen instead of rising. I believe this is all due to us not maximizing our efforts in a single industry."

"I'm old now, and sometimes I can't quite grasp the market, but based on my past experience, I believe that the internet industry will once again become a high-profit growth area within the next decade."

Shen Yan thoughtfully tapped the table with his finger.

"I understand what you mean. You're planning to enter the internet industry?"

Sun Yang poured Shen Yan another cup of tea.

"Exactly. I want to specialize in a few industries, narrow down our business scope, improve company efficiency, and strive for excellence."

"In short, I want to ask you to help me research a software application, and let this software be our first step into the internet industry."

Shen Yan indicated he understood. He took out a notebook and pen from his bag and asked Sun Yang.

"Then what type of software do you want me to help you make?"

Sun Yang answered without thinking.

"You decide. I trust you."

Hearing this, Shen Yan put down his pen and thoughtfully asked Sun Yang.

"Chairman Sun, can I ask you a question?"

Sun Yang certainly wouldn't refuse; he said with a chuckle.

"Ask away, ask whatever you want to know."

Shen Yan looked directly at Sun Yang and asked:

"Chairman Sun, why did you choose me?"
