80: Chapter 8 Silent Companionship
"I offered to help voluntarily and proactively, do you hate my help that much?"
Shen Yan didn't expect Liu Hui to misunderstand him so much.
He shook his head and waved his hand:
"That's not what I meant. I just feel it's too much trouble for you, so..."
Before he could finish speaking, Liu Hui interrupted him once again.
"I don't care what you meant. The fact remains that I like you. If you have feelings for me, then I hope you won't push me away."
Shen Yan was completely choked up.
He didn't know how to respond.
To be fair,
he did have a good impression of Liu Hui.
But having a good impression didn't mean anything.
There were too many things going on right now; he didn't have time for romantic dalliances.
To put it plainly, he didn't want to be in a relationship.
Moreover, he didn't want to know someone's feelings and then not give them an answer, stringing the other person along.
"Liu Hui, we aren't suitable for each other. You don't need to keep doing this..."
Liu Hui looked firmly into his eyes and asked him:
"You don't need to worry about so much. I'll ask you just one thing: do you have any good feelings for me or not?"
Shen Yan didn't want to lie, so he fell silent.
Seeing this, Liu Hui smiled.
"If you don't speak, I'll take it as your consent."
"Don't worry, I'm not young anymore. I know what I'm doing, and I have complete autonomy over my actions."
"In other words, I'm doing this willingly, so you don't need to feel guilty."
Having said what she needed to say, Liu Hui stopped discussing the topic.
"Alright, the porridge should be ready soon. I'll go get it for you."
The speed at which the topic jumped was too fast.
Shen Yan couldn't keep up for a moment.
He sat foolishly on the sofa, waiting for Liu Hui to bring out the porridge.
"Clang!"
The sound of the spoon touching the bowl rang out.
As Liu Hui served porridge for Shen Yan, she asked:
"So, what happened between you two last night? How did you both get so drunk?"
Shen Yan believed Liu Hui was a trustworthy person.
So, without hesitation, he told her everything that happened the previous night.
After listening, Liu Hui frowned and raised a question.
"Why do you absolutely have to accompany your sister abroad yourself?"
"Actually, you could have sent your sister for treatment and continued to focus on your career domestically."
Shen Yan shook his head.
"No, I can't rest assured leaving my sister alone overseas. I must stay with her."
Liu Hui opened her mouth, wanting to speak but stopping herself.
Indeed.
If it were her, she also wouldn't feel comfortable sending a comatose relative abroad alone.
"Fine, then think about it again and see if there's any compromise."
"For example, find someone relatively trustworthy to look after your sister."
As she spoke, Liu Hui's eyes suddenly lit up.
She excitedly asked Shen Yan:
"How about letting my aunt accompany your sister? She took care of your sister before!"
Shen Yan refused without thinking.
It was absolutely impossible for him to let Grandma Liu accompany his sister abroad.
Grandma Liu was already old.
Asking an elderly person who had never been abroad to go overseas to care for his comatose sister was something he absolutely could not bring himself to do.
"Stop worrying so much about me. I will handle this matter myself."
Since he had said that, Liu Hui naturally couldn't say anything more.
Just as the space returned to quiet once again,
Chen Guangke woke up.
He walked out of the room.
"Hey... you two are both here..."
"What is that smell? It smells so good!"
Liu Hui called out, handed him the porridge, and said to him:
"I cooked porridge. Wash up and come have some too."
Chen Guangke nodded gratefully:
"Thank you. I thought you would at most just call someone to send us back, I didn't expect you to even cook porridge for us."
Liu Hui glanced at Shen Yan before replying:
"You're welcome. It's not a big deal for me."
"Alright, if there's nothing else, I'll take my leave now. I won't disturb the two of you."
Seeing her about to leave, Shen Yan quickly walked her to the door.
After seeing her off, he turned around and found Chen Guangke looking at him with a teasing expression.
"Oh!"
"Old Shen, she's gone to such lengths for you. Don't you have anything you want to express?"
When this matter came up, Shen Yan got angry.
He felt Chen Guangke had been too presumptuous.
How could he bother a girl to send them back?!
As he thought, he voiced the thoughts in his mind.
Chen Guangke felt wronged.
He had been completely unconscious from drinking at that time.
It was already good enough that he remembered to call someone to send them back; he couldn't possibly remember who he called...
After chatting about this topic for a few sentences, they moved on.
"So, what is your plan?"
Chen Guangke cautiously asked Shen Yan.
He was worried that Shen Yan would give up the company, and he was also worried that Shen Yan would miss the best treatment window for his sister. His heart was extremely conflicted.
"I don't know," Shen Yan said, then sighed, adding, "Forget it, I'll think about it for two more days and see if there's a solution that satisfies both sides."
Chen Guangke nodded and didn't ask further about the matter.
After taking a couple of sips of porridge,
Shen Yan suddenly remembered something.
"Right, yesterday I went to see He Yunri and said a couple of things to him..."
Before he finished speaking, Chen Guangke hurriedly asked:
"So what exactly did he say?"
Shen Yan recounted his conversation with He Yunri.
"Change the project?!"
Shen Yan shook his head.
"To be precise, it's modifying the project. The software's positioning remains the same, but the creative direction and ideas need to be changed."
Chen Guangke covered his head in near collapse.
He was just a coder. Where was he supposed to get so many creative directions and ideas?
Seeing his look of collapse, Shen Yan couldn't help but smile.
"Old Chen, didn't you tell me? Always look on the bright side of things."
"At least we haven't lost the investment yet, right?"
Chen Guangke forced a bitter laugh.
If he couldn't come up with new creative directions and ideas, then losing the investment wouldn't be far off.
"Fine, fine, whatever you say. Hurry up and eat your porridge. After we finish, we can see what parts of the project can be modified."
... ...
On the other side, Chen Ling had just arrived at work.
As the boss, she didn't need to adhere to fixed working hours.
Stepping into the office, she asked her secretary for the latest data report on the software.
"This..."
"The project team hasn't submitted the data to me yet, so..."
"What?!" Chen Ling flew into a rage, slamming her desk loudly, "What time is it now? Why hasn't the project team submitted the data yet?!"
"Am I paying them salaries just so they can slack off here?!"
The secretary rolled his eyes internally.
He wasn't part of the project team; what was the use of her venting at him?
Of course,
he definitely wouldn't say what he was thinking.
