488: Chapter 483 Did you have fun?

Kevin swallowed the last bite of his burrito.

The spicy sauce burned his esophagus.

Like a ball of fire.

Shen Yan tossed the empty paper bag into a roadside trash can with a casual gesture.

"Let's go."

He repeated those two words.

Kevin silently followed, like a shadow without its own thoughts.

He didn't know where they were going.

Nor did he want to ask.

Shen Yan hailed a car.

The vehicle merged into the ceaseless flow of traffic, heading towards the most luxurious district in the city.

Star Avenue.

The shopping paradise of Saint Ludo.

The display windows of all the world's top luxury brands vied for attention here.

Well-dressed men and women, carrying shopping bags, wore smiles of contentment and ease.

Kevin used to be a regular here.

The pocket money he casually swiped away was enough for an ordinary family's annual expenses.

Now, dressed in the cheap T-shirt provided by the hotel, he blended into the crowd like a drop of dirty water mixed into the ocean.

No one gave him a second glance.

Shen Yan walked ahead, his pace neither fast nor slow.

He entered a top-tier watch boutique.

When the sales associate saw Shen Yan's attire, a trace of hard-to-detect disdain flashed in her eyes, but her excellent professional training compelled her to put on a standard smile.

"Sir, hello, how may I help you?"

Shen Yan's gaze swept over the intricate works of art displayed in the glass counters.

His finger tapped on a Patek Philippe Calatrava Pilot Travel Time.

"Take this one out for me to see."

The sales associate's smile faltered slightly.

The price of that watch was enough to buy a nice villa in the suburbs.

She sized up Shen Yan, trying to find any hint of joking in his calm Eastern features.

But she failed.

Finally, she put on white gloves and carefully retrieved the watch.

Shen Yan took it and played with it in his hand.

Without even looking at it closely, he handed the watch to Kevin behind him.

"Try it on."

Kevin's body froze.

The gazes around them gathered, faint yet present.

He saw the suspicion in the sales associate's eyes, the scrutiny in the eyes of the other customers.

He felt like a thief whose clothes had been stripped off.

He shook his head.

Shen Yan said nothing and returned the watch to the sales associate.

"Wrap it up."

He took out his phone, seemingly preparing to pay.

"Wait!"

Kevin blurted out, almost involuntarily.

He stepped forward and lowered his voice.

"We don't need this."

Shen Yan glanced at him.

"I need it."

He said to the stunned sales associate in fluent local language,

"Deliver it to the Azure Crown Hotel, top-floor suite, charge it to Mr. Shen Yan's account."

With that, he turned and walked out of the watch store.

The sales associate stood frozen, clutching the priceless watch, at a loss.

Kevin followed out, his face pale.

"What exactly do you want to do?" he couldn't help but ask.

Shen Yan did not answer.

He led Kevin and continued walking forward.

They passed the Royal Academy of Saint Ludo.

Ancient ivy covered the red brick walls.

On the lawn, young students sat in small groups, laughing and discussing the future.

The aura of youth was dazzling, like sunlight.

Kevin's steps slowed down.

He had also been a student here.

If that 'accident' hadn't happened, he should be on that lawn right now, playing rugby with his friends.

Instead of living in constant fear like a wanted criminal.

Shen Yan stopped and looked back at him.

"Not going in for a look at your alma mater?"

Kevin's lips tightened into a straight line.

He turned his head, avoiding Shen Yan's gaze.

"Let's go."

This time, it was his turn to say those two words.

The next stop was the Golden Triangle.

The financial center of Saint Ludo.

The glass curtain walls of the skyscrapers reflected the cold daylight.

Elites in tailored suits hurried along, the words "Time is Money" written on every face.

The headquarters of the Hossen Group was not far away.

The Hosen Family crest was engraved on the top of that building.

Like a giant eagle overlooking the entire city.

Kevin looked up, gazing at the familiar crest.

That place had once been his home.

Now, it was a cage that imprisoned his father and made his brother successful.

How ridiculous.

He was touring his own life using a fake identity, like a tourist.

Everything he possessed, everything he had lost, flashed before his eyes frame by frame, like a movie.

And he was merely an onlooker.

Shen Yan stood beside him, silent.

He was like the most brilliant hunter, only leading the prey to the edge of the trap, then patiently waiting for the prey to walk in on its own.

The wind grew colder and colder.

Kevin's body began to tremble slightly.

It wasn't because of the cold.

It was because of the boundless sense of absurdity surging from the bottom of his heart.

He suddenly felt that his past twenty years of life had been like an elaborately staged joke.

And now, it was time for the curtain call.

The sky gradually darkened.

The city's neon lights lit up one by one, dyeing the sky a strange purplish-red.

Only then did Shen Yan take Kevin back to the Azure Crown Hotel.

Back to that top-floor suite that seemed isolated from the world.

Outside the huge floor-to-ceiling windows was the brilliant cityscape.

Like an inverted sea of stars.

Shen Yan walked to the bar and poured himself a glass of whiskey.

The amber liquid swayed gently in the crystal glass.

He didn't look at Kevin, only watching the night view outside, his voice sounding flat.

"Did you have fun today?"

This question was like a needle, precisely piercing Kevin's already taut nerves.

Fun?

He had seen the wanted poster issued for him.

He had seen Andrew's hypocritical face and vicious methods.

He had seen the luxurious life he once possessed.

He had seen the brilliant youth he should have had.

He had seen the cold building symbolizing family glory.

All of this was reminding him that he was a failure, an exiled, homeless stray dog.

Shen Yan asked him if he had fun?

This was simply the world's greatest irony.

Kevin did not answer.

The room fell into a dead silence.

Only the crisp sound of ice cubes colliding with the glass, again and again.

Tapping against Kevin's heart.

He slowly turned around.

Looking at Shen Yan's back.

That silhouette wasn't particularly tall, yet it resembled an unshakeable mountain.

Calm, powerful, and unfathomable.

Kevin's breathing became somewhat rapid.

He knew this was his only lifeline.

And also his only weapon for revenge.

He could not wait any longer.

If he waited any longer, he would be devoured alive by those memories, that unwillingness, and that resentment.

He had to make a choice.

"You can help me."

Kevin spoke.

His voice was hoarse, devoid of any questioning tone, as if stating a fact.

Shen Yan's movement of holding the wine glass did not pause in the slightest.

He still did not turn around.
