20: Chapter 2 Fraudulent Companies
Just like that, they worked overtime late into the night once again.
On the way home from the studio,
Shen Yan saw that Brother Sun and Sister-in-law Sun's home was still brightly lit.
*Knock, knock, knock.*
After he knocked, Sister-in-law Sun came to open the door.
As soon as Shen Yan saw her, he immediately apologized.
"I'm so sorry, Sister-in-law Sun. I've had a lot on my plate lately, and when I get busy, I forget everything. I'm only just now coming over to bring you the contract."
Sister-in-law Sun hurriedly shook her head.
"There's nothing to be sorry about. We usually stay up late anyway."
Seeing that Sister-in-law Sun's expression seemed a bit off, Shen Yan asked in confusion, "What's wrong? Did something happen?"
Sister-in-law Sun hesitated, glancing back over her shoulder.
"It's... it's just that our previous business partner came to see us."
Shen Yan found it strange; hadn't Brother Sun and Sister-in-law Sun already turned them down?
Just then, an unfamiliar voice drifted out from inside the house.
"The guest is here, hurry up and invite him in."
Hearing this, Sister-in-law Sun quickly stepped aside.
"Come in, come in, Little Shen. Come and have a seat."
Shen Yan walked inside and immediately spotted a middle-aged man sitting by the tea table.
The man had hair gel in his hair and was wearing a suit.
He looked a bit like an Agent.
As soon as Brother Sun saw him, he immediately pulled out a chair nearby.
"Come! Little Shen! Come sit!"
Shen Yan shook his head and politely declined.
He was still waiting to go back and continue packing.
"I won't stay. I still have some things to do at home."
"This is the contract. You two take a look, and if there are no issues, we'll sign it and I'll take it back with me."
No sooner had he finished speaking than the middle-aged man stood up and walked over.
"So you're the Little Shen they were talking about?"
Shen Yan gave him a cold look and didn't respond.
The man didn't feel awkward and started introducing himself directly.
"My surname is Wang, you can call me Old Wang. I heard the price you offered them is sixty per catty?"
Shen Yan didn't need to guess to know that the man definitely had ill intentions.
"What does that have to do with you?"
Old Wang chuckled, a sharp glint flashing in his eyes.
"How could it have nothing to do with me? It has a lot to do with me."
"Little Sun, don't blame me for not warning you. In our line of work, many people like to use fake contracts to scam others. You'd better be careful."
Hearing this, Sister-in-law Sun grew anxious.
"What do you mean? Little Shen isn't the kind of person who would scam anyone!"
Old Wang smiled and shook his head.
"I didn't say this young man is a scammer; I'm worried that he has been scammed by someone else!"
Brother Sun and Sister-in-law Sun fell silent.
They were indeed very happy when they heard sixty per catty yesterday.
But after calming down and thinking it over, they felt the matter was a bit unreliable.
Shen Yan wasn't in their industry. If he was being scammed, they would not only fail to get their money but also lose their goods.
The risk of this deal was too great.
Seeing their expressions, Old Wang knew they were hesitating.
"How about this? I'll raise the price for you a bit. How does forty per catty sound? That's the highest price I can offer."
Sister-in-law Sun was a little tempted and looked up at Brother Sun.
She walked over and whispered in Brother Sun's ear, "At forty per catty, we'll not only break even but also make a bit of profit. Why don't we just sign?"
Brother Sun lowered his head in hesitation.
Shen Yan sighed. He had originally thought this matter was fully resolved.
He hadn't expected a problem to arise at the last minute regarding the signing of the contract.
He walked over to the tea table, pulled out a chair, and sat down.
"Alright then, Mr. Old Wang. You say you'll pay forty per catty. Do you intend to sign a long-term or short-term contract with them?"
Without even thinking, Old Wang replied, "Long-term, of course!"
Shen Yan curled his lips into a smirk and turned to Brother Sun and Sister-in-law Sun.
"Then you'd better think carefully about the price difference between sixty per catty and forty per catty."
Sister-in-law Sun swallowed hard.
If the deal at sixty per catty was real, then over a long-term partnership, the profit they could make would be much higher than at forty per catty!
Old Wang grew anxious and tapped his hand on the table.
"You're an outsider, so stop spouting nonsense here!"
"Do you even know what a price of sixty per catty represents?"
Shen Yan acted as if he were all ears.
"I really don't. Could you explain it to me?"
Old Wang's expression turned serious.
"In this industry, being able to sell Huang Biluochun Green Tea for forty per catty is already very good."
"You're a layman. Who would believe that you just happened to find a partner willing to pay sixty per catty?"
Shen Yan placed the contract in his hand on the table.
"I am indeed a layman, but I know that the reason for such large price discrepancies in this circle is that some people like to pass off inferior goods as high quality."
"I've already seen Brother Sun and Sister-in-law Sun's goods. Their stock is all high-grade and very well-preserved. It's perfectly normal to get a wholesale price of sixty per catty."
Seeing that he couldn't out-argue Shen Yan, Old Wang turned his attention back to brainwashing Brother Sun and Sister-in-law Sun.
"You absolutely must not listen to what he says!"
"I, Wang Qi, have been in this circle for over twenty years, and I've never heard of a company that would offer a cost price of sixty per catty for Huang Biluochun Green Tea!"
Shen Yan interjected from the side, "Just because you haven't seen it doesn't mean it doesn't exist."
Old Wang flew into a rage out of humiliation, slamming the table as he stood up.
"You young man, if you don't understand, don't pretend you do! Is it even your place to speak here?!"
Brother Sun and Sister-in-law Sun were only afraid that Shen Yan had been scammed; it wasn't that they didn't trust him.
Seeing Old Wang taking his anger out on Shen Yan, they immediately became displeased.
"Old Wang, what's the meaning of this?"
"Little Shen is doing this for our own good! How can you take your anger out on him?"
Old Wang gave a cold laugh.
"Heh! I see you've really grown senile with age. You actually dare to believe the words of a little brat who knows nothing!"
"Fine, since you're so willing to be duped, then go right ahead! I just won't work with you!"
With that, he turned to leave.
Sister-in-law Sun quickly grabbed the contract and chased after him.
"Wait!"
Hearing her voice, Old Wang smirked, thinking Sister-in-law Sun was anxious and wanted to win him back.
"Hmph, thinking of begging me now? I'm telling you, no way!"
Sister-in-law Sun paused and held out the contract in her hand.
"I wanted to say that you forgot to take the contract you brought with you..."
Old Wang's face turned red instantly, and his lips began to tremble with rage.
"You! All of you! You don't know what's good for you!"
"You deserve to be poor! A bunch of hicks! Low-lifes!"
When it came to scolding people, Sister-in-law Sun had never lost.
"Pah! You dog who can't even father a child! You think we don't know you're intentionally driving the price down?"
"Your offer isn't as good as others, yet you're still acting all high and mighty. Why don't you just get lost! Take a look at what kind of trash you are!"
Every word she spoke was as "fragrant" as could be.
