109: Chapter 109 I Started a Company

At 12:00 PM, just after finishing his second class, Chen Fan was about to head to the cafeteria for lunch with Wang Lei and the others.

Just then, the phone in his pocket began to vibrate.

Chen Fan took out his phone and saw that it was a call from his counselor, Counselor Shen Na.

He was a bit puzzled; what would the counselor want with him at this hour?

He answered the call.

"Hello, Sister Na."

"Chen Fan, I'm in the counselor's office. Come over for a bit."

"Alright."

Although he didn't know why Counselor Shen Na was looking for him, Chen Fan didn't hesitate. After telling Wang Lei and the others, he headed toward the counselor's office.

When he arrived at the office...

...he found that Counselor Shen Na was the only teacher there.

Chen Fan knocked on the door and walked in.

"Sister Na, you wanted to see me?"

Counselor Shen Na looked up, glanced at him, and gestured for him to sit.

"Yes, have a seat."

Chen Fan sat down across from her, his expression as calm as ever.

Counselor Shen Na put down her pen and got straight to the point.

"I asked you here because I want to talk about your recent state of mind."

Chen Fan was taken aback, his expression innocent.

"My status? Sister Na, I'm doing just fine."

Counselor Shen Na stared at him for two seconds, her tone calm but serious.

"Recently, several teachers have reported your truancy to me. You even left halfway through a class today. Advanced Mathematics, Ideological and Political Education—all of them."

Chen Fan didn't say anything.

Counselor Shen Na continued, "Explain yourself. What's going on?"

Chen Fan thought for a moment and said casually,

"Nothing much, I just had some things to take care of."

"Things to take care of?" Counselor Shen Na frowned. "What could be more important than your classes? You're still young, and this is the time to build your foundation. If you fall behind in your major courses, it'll be too late to catch up later."

Chen Fan didn't respond.

Counselor Shen Na sighed, her voice tinged with helplessness.

"I'm starting to regret agreeing to let you live off-campus. If you lived in the dorms, maybe you'd be more focused and study harder."

Counselor Shen Na truly felt some regret. With a Gaokao score of 709, Chen Fan had the highest score in the entire School of Management, so the leadership had specifically instructed her to guide this student well.

Yet, only a month after the start of the semester—and only half a month excluding military training—she had already received feedback from several teachers about Chen Fan skipping classes.

Counselor Shen Na rubbed her temples, looking at the composed student before her with a growing headache.

Seeing the trace of worry on Counselor Shen Na's face, Chen Fan understood she had his best interests at heart.

However, the company's development was currently very important to him, and he didn't want his studies to hinder it.

He thought for a moment and then said seriously, "Sister Na, there's a reason I've been skipping classes."

"What reason?"

"Actually, I'm currently starting a business."

"Starting a business? What kind of business can you start at your age? A milk tea shop or a coffee shop?"

Counselor Shen Na knew Chen Fan came from a well-off family since they had bought him a house in Chang'an.

But in her mind, Chen Fan's family was probably just a wealthy one from a county town with assets worth a few million yuan.

With that kind of background, starting a business usually meant the family giving some money to open a milk tea or coffee shop.

How much could those shops make? Twenty thousand yuan a month at most. Given Chen Fan's grades, if he studied hard, his future achievements would surely exceed twenty thousand a month.

She paused, her tone becoming advisory.

"Chen Fan, I know your family is well-off and bought you a house. But how much can a shop like that earn? At most, maybe ten or twenty thousand a month."

She looked at Chen Fan, her tone turning more serious.

"With your score of 709, the highest in the School of Management, if you study hard, whether you get recommended for grad school or go abroad, you could land a job at a major tech firm. A salary of hundreds of thousands or even millions wouldn't be an issue. Right now, you're trading a future worth millions for twenty thousand a month. Do you think that's worth it?"

Chen Fan didn't speak; he just looked at her.

Thinking she had persuaded him, Counselor Shen Na continued,

"It's not that I don't support you starting a business, but now isn't the time. It won't be too late to start one after you've gained skills and built a network."

Only then did Chen Fan speak, his voice calm.

"Sister Na, it's not a milk tea shop. I've started a company."

"A company?" Counselor Shen Na's eyes widened.

"Yes, an internet company that makes games."

Counselor Shen Na looked at him with a complex expression. After a long silence, she said, "Tell me, what's really going on?"

Seeing this, Chen Fan began to tell Counselor Shen Na about how he started his business during the summer vacation—from coming up with the idea for a game, to building a team, to the launch of defend the carrot.

He also told her about its current performance.

"You're saying the game you made already has hundreds of thousands of downloads?" Counselor Shen Na's voice was filled with clear disbelief.

Counselor Shen Na leaned back in her chair, staring at Chen Fan for several seconds as if re-evaluating the student in front of her.

She opened her mouth to say something but swallowed it back. Finally, she took a deep breath and said, "How about this: take me to see your company."

A flash of surprise crossed Chen Fan's eyes; he hadn't expected Counselor Shen Na to want to visit his company.

However, since she wanted to go, he wouldn't stop her.

Once he got past Counselor Shen Na, asking for leave or handling other matters would be much easier in the future.

Thinking of this, he nodded.

"Sure, shall we go now?"

Counselor Shen Na checked the time.

"Do you have class this afternoon?"

"I don't have class during the second period."

"Alright, then wait for me downstairs from the office after the first period ends."

Chen Fan nodded.

"Okay."
