94: Chapter 94 showcases the results of my fitness journey.
To everyone's surprise, Liu Qiong actually sang quite well.
Her voice wasn't exactly sweet, but it was full of breath, and she enunciated every word clearly.
Without accompaniment or auto-tune, she just sang a cappella, her voice drifting across the open playground.
Her expression was very earnest while she sang, unlike the fierce look she had when shouting commands earlier. Her eyes and brows softened quite a bit, and she would occasionally close her eyes slightly.
The crowd below gradually quieted down; no one was whispering anymore, everyone was listening.
"Keep your tears in your heart, and they will bloom into brave flowers —"
Once the song finished, applause erupted, more enthusiastic than for anyone before.
Some people whistled, others shouted, "Instructor, sing another one!" and some even stood up to clap.
Liu Qiong waved her hand, walked back to her original spot, and sat down again without any particular expression on her face.
"It's your turn," she said.
After a dozen seconds, someone in the back row raised their hand: "I'll go!"
Chen Fan took a look; it was a boy, and from his own class, too.
"I'll sing a song too. I don't sing very well, so please don't laugh at me."
Someone immediately shouted from below: "We won't laugh, sing!"
The boy stood up, walked a few steps forward, and stood next to Liu Qiong. He rubbed his hands together and took a deep breath, looking a bit nervous.
Liu Qiong tilted her head to look at him, said nothing, and moved aside to make room for him.
The boy cleared his throat and began:
"I once dreamed of traveling the world with a sword, to see the prosperity of the world..."
His voice was a bit tight, and he almost missed the first line, but as he kept singing, it smoothed out.
"A young heart is always a bit reckless, and now you wander the world..."
Chen Fan listened, feeling that the guy actually sang okay. While not professional, it was sincere, without that feeling of forcing it.
After the song finished, applause rang out immediately.
"Good!"
"One more!"
The boy scratched his head and ran back into the formation with a smile.
With the first person breaking the ice, the atmosphere gradually heated up.
"My turn."
This time it was a girl; she walked from the formation to the front of everyone.
Chen Fan only then noticed that this girl was quite pretty, looking about the same as Shen Qing in his class.
But Shen Qing gave people a feeling of being too cold.
This girl was different; she gave off the feeling of being a passionate and vibrant girl.
Her slightly curly long hair was clearly professionally permed, with a soft, shiny texture.
Her eyelashes fluttered, and her eyes seemed to be able to talk.
Standing there, her skin was a shade lighter than those around her — after half a month of military training, everyone else had been tanned to a wheat color, yet she hadn't really darkened much at all.
"I'm not very good at singing, so I'll dance for everyone instead."
As she spoke, the girl took off her military training jacket, revealing a white T-shirt underneath.
Beneath the white T-shirt was the girl's curvaceous figure.
The eyes of the boys present lit up one after another, and Chen Fan's gaze also focused on the girl.
The girl took a mobile phone out of her pocket. Chen Fan took a look; it should be an iPhone 3G. It seems her family background must be quite good if she can afford an iPhone.
She tapped a few times on the phone.
A familiar intro began to play.
Chen Fan had some impression of it; it seemed to be the song "Nobody" from South Korea.
As the upbeat and slightly sexy rhythm rang out, the whole scene went quiet for half a second, before erupting into a burst of cheering and applause.
The girl followed the music, gently tiptoeing and swaying her hips, her movements natural and unpretentious.
Her movements weren't particularly standard, but they were uninhibited — clapping, lifting her legs, using her fingers to make a pistol shape; every movement hit the beat.
She wore the oversized military training uniform in a different style; the loose fit actually added a touch of casualness.
When she danced to the chorus, people below started humming along: "I want nobody, nobody but you —"
She smiled, her movements becoming even more uninhibited. When she turned, her hair whipped up, and a few strands stuck to the corner of her mouth, but she didn't have time to fix it.
As the last note fell, she finished her move and stood still.
Applause erupted, even more enthusiastic than before.
She looked at the crowd below, breathing slightly, her chest rising and falling with her breath, attracting the gaze of all the guys.
But she didn't seem to notice; she brushed back the hair dampened by sweat, smiled, and walked back into the formation.
After the girl stepped down, several others went up one after another.
There were those who sang, like singing Beyond's "Boundless Oceans, Vast Skies". Their voices were loud, but they were completely off-key.
There were also those who told jokes, telling several in a row, but unfortunately they were too corny and didn't make anyone laugh, so they could only go down awkwardly.
The atmosphere slowly cooled down.
Liu Qiong sat in front, waiting for a while, but no one stood up.
She waited a while longer, still no one.
She scanned the crowd and asked: "Is no one else coming up?"
Liu Qiong didn't respond, her gaze moving slowly through the crowd. When it reached Chen Fan's row, it paused for a moment.
"Chen Fan, you were late today, you come do one."
Upon hearing this, Chen Fan's eyes widened instantly, and he couldn't help but say: "Instructor, haven't I already done push-ups?"
"Lateness is lateness, and performing a talent is performing a talent. Come on."
Chen Fan opened his mouth, wanting to say something.
Liu Qiong spoke up immediately: "You're a big man, why are you being so coy?"
At this moment, Liu Zhipeng egged him on: "Chen Fan, go up! Don't be a coward!"
As roommates, since Liu Zhipeng started egging him on, Wang Lei and Zhang Yuhang naturally followed suit.
The girls present also started shouting: "Chen Fan, do one!"
The voices became more and more synchronized, merging into one.
Chen Fan was already the tallest in the entire formation, and combined with his handsome face, he had long been noticed by the girls in the company.
When he was punished with a hundred push-ups today, that relaxed manner of doing them without even catching his breath made quite a few people sneak extra glances at him.
Chen Fan felt a bit helpless and had no choice but to walk forward.
"I can't sing or dance, so I'll just perform some push-ups for everyone."
Chen Fan wasn't being modest; he really couldn't sing or dance. When it came to singing, he was tone-deaf. The wealth store had even rolled out a [Singing] skill before.
He had just ignored it directly. Why spend that wasted money? It wasn't like he was relying on that to make a living.
A girl below laughed: "What's interesting about push-ups? We just saw that!"
"Instructor, I have a suggestion," a girl's voice came from the crowd.
Chen Fan looked in the direction of the voice; it turned out to be the girl who had just danced to "Nobody."
Liu Qiong also looked at her: "What suggestion do you have?"
The girl brushed a lock of hair from her forehead back and said with a smile: "Doesn't classmate Chen Fan work out? Can he show us his fitness results? Just consider it his talent show."
As soon as these words were out, the crowd below instantly became lively.
"Yes, yes, yes! Show us!"
"Take it off! Take it off!"
Liu Qiong raised an eyebrow and looked at Chen Fan: "What do you think?"
Things had reached this point, so of course Chen Fan wouldn't be coy: "Alright."
