29: Chapter 29 Grade Improvement

After writing the last word, he put down his pen and checked everything from start to finish.

Two hours later, he raised his hand to submit his paper.

Exam regulations stated that students could only submit their papers half an hour early; otherwise, he could have submitted his and left an hour ago.

The invigilator was stunned for a moment: "Won't you check it again?"

"I've finished checking."

She took the paper, flipped through a couple of pages, and then looked up at him.

Chen Fan ignored her, picked up his pencil case, and walked out of the classroom.

The boy sitting behind Chen Fan flashed a look of envy after seeing Chen Fan submit his paper.

Then, looking at his own essay which was only half-finished, he scratched his head, sighed, and continued to struggle with the next paragraph.

...

The 2nd and 3rd passed by in a flash.

After finishing the last exam, English, more than half the people in the classroom had left. Chen Fan packed his things and walked out slowly.

In the hallway, some people were discussing the answers. He couldn't be bothered to join in and just walked away with his pencil case.

On February 5th, the grades were released.

Chinese: 139

Mathematics: 111

English: 78

Physics: 89

Biology: 83

Chemistry: 86

Total score: 586, 23rd in the grade, 1st in the class, almost 70 points higher than the second place in the class.

This score was naturally the result of Chen Fan's control; he would raise it a bit more next time.

Once these results came out, they stunned everyone in the class, as well as all the substitute teachers, except for the PE teacher, of course.

Especially the homeroom teacher, Old Zhou; he hadn't expected Chen Fan to be able to achieve such a score.

He was almost in disbelief. If he hadn't seen Chen Fan's performance during this period with his own eyes, he would have suspected that Chen Fan had copied someone else's work.

During the holiday break, Old Zhou called Chen Fan to the office for a talk.

However, it wasn't to question his grades, but simply to offer some encouragement.

"Sit." Old Zhou pointed to the chair beside his desk, sat down first, and took a sip from his teacup.

Chen Fan sat down and waited for him to speak.

Old Zhou put down his cup, looked at him twice, and smiled: "Don't be nervous, it's not a bad thing."

Chen Fan nodded.

"The final exam results are out, have you seen them?"

"I have."

"23rd in the grade, 1st in the class." When Old Zhou said this, his tone still sounded like he hadn't fully processed it: "Your progress this semester has been truly significant."

Chen Fan said nothing.

Old Zhou leaned back, looked out the window for a moment, then turned back: "I know what your grades were like before. To be honest, at the beginning of the semester, I didn't have any expectations for you; I would have been happy if you could just get into a junior college."

This was blunt, but Chen Fan knew it was the truth.

"But I've seen the changes in you during this period." Old Zhou paused: "With your current grades, as long as you keep it up, getting into a first-tier university won't be a problem. I don't want you to be like before, addicted to the internet and sleeping in class. There are only a few months left until the college entrance exam; push yourself. Once the exam is over and you go to university, you can play as much as you want."

Chen Fan nodded: "Don't worry, teacher, I will keep it up."

"Alright, go on now, stay safe on the way home."

Today was the last day of the semester. The holiday started from today and would last until March 1st, after the Lantern Festival.

After returning home, Chen Fan told Chen Jianjun and Wang Mei his results immediately.

"586 points?" She took the report card and looked at it again: "Is… is this first in the class?"

Chen Fan nodded.

"23rd in the grade," he added.

Can this score get into a first-tier university?

"A first-tier university is no problem. Last year, the cutoff for science programs in Qin Province was only around 537."

"That's good, as long as you can get into a first-tier university, that's fine." As Wang Mei said this, she remembered something: "Mom bought some beef ribs, I'll stew them for you today."

Chen Jianjun was sitting on the sofa, took the report card, and looked at it for a while. He didn't say anything, but the corners of his mouth curled upwards.

...

A few days after the results came out, it was already the 29th day of the twelfth lunar month, which was February 12th.

The atmosphere of the New Year in the county town was getting stronger; the streets were covered with red lanterns, and stalls selling New Year goods were lined up one after another.

However, that didn't have much to do with Chen Fan's family; they were preparing to go back to their hometown for the New Year.

Chen Fan's grandparents were still in their hometown. Although they didn't live together, they had to go back for the New Year.

There was also his uncle's family. Every year on New Year's Eve, his family and his uncle's family would return to his grandparents' house to celebrate the New Year; that was the liveliest time.

After so many days, Chen Fan's height had reached 1.8 meters.

It seemed that the bones in his face had also undergone Secondary Bone Development; his nose had become more defined, and his jawline was sharper than before.

He stood in front of the mirror and looked at himself for a while longer. The somewhat frail-looking Chen Fan from before was gone. Now, his features had opened up, his contours were deeper, and his whole face had sharp angles.

Chen Fan had always been good-looking, and now that he had grown taller, he looked like a sunny, handsome guy.

"Chen Fan, have you finished changing clothes? It's time to go." Wang Mei shouted from outside.

"Coming."

He put on his jacket and pushed the door open to go out.

When he arrived at the parking spot, the two of them got into the car, where Chen Jianjun was already waiting: "Did you lock the door?"

"It's locked. You ask every time we go out, it makes me feel uneasy." Wang Mei fastened her seatbelt and rolled her eyes at him.

Chen Jianjun didn't reply; he pressed the gas pedal, and the car slowly started moving.

After driving for an hour, the car finally arrived at their home.

In 2009, most families didn't have cars, so Chen Jianjun's Volkswagen parked at the entrance was very conspicuous.

As soon as the engine was turned off, someone walked out of the courtyard next door.

It was Aunt Li from next door. Seeing it was Chen Jianjun's family, a look of jealousy appeared on her face. She scanned the car a few more times before turning back into the courtyard.

Ever since Chen Fan bought the car for Chen Jianjun, everyone in the village basically knew about it very quickly. At that time, anyone who could afford a car was considered a capable person.

Moreover, because Chen Jianjun and Wang Mei had gone to the county town and hadn't stayed in the village for a long time, the villagers assumed Chen Jianjun was making big money and had moved to the county town.

Therefore, some neighbors who had a good relationship with Chen Jianjun or Wang Mei tried to fish for information, asking how Chen Jianjun got rich and if he could help them out.

Chen Jianjun naturally couldn't tell them it was his son's money, so he could only speak vaguely.

Those people then assumed that Chen Jianjun was unwilling to tell them, which created a rift in their hearts, and their relationships gradually faded.

Aunt Li was one of them; she wanted Chen Jianjun to take her husband along to make money, but Chen Jianjun didn't take the bait. Later, when they met, they spoke less, at most just nodding.

However, Chen Jianjun didn't care; as long as his son was capable, that was enough.

"Xiao Fan, open the trunk and bring the things inside."

"Alright." Chen Fan opened the trunk, revealing a trunk full of items.

Chen Fan picked up two or three large bags in one hand, then with a slight exertion of force, he lifted them and walked into the courtyard.

Ever since his Secondary Bone Development, Chen Fan's strength had increased significantly. He hadn't measured exactly how much, but he would test it when he had the chance later.
