191: Chapter 191 Lin Xi's Shock
Starting from the company's registration in July—renting an office, hiring people, and building a team.
Then came the launch of "defend the carrot." As their first game, a casual one, its data climbed steadily after release, marking a successful first shot.
Next was "happy elimination," the second product launched while the iron was hot.
And now there's "archangels sword," a web game the team is currently working overtime to develop, with an expected launch in March or April next year.
Chen Fan spoke at a steady pace, neither exaggerating nor being deliberately modest; he simply laid out the events of the past few months before her.
Lin Xi sat on the sofa, hands on her knees, listening in stunned silence.
She opened her mouth to speak, but felt that anything she said wouldn't be quite right.
In the end, she just looked at Chen Fan, her eyes filled with surprise, admiration, and an indescribable emotion—like happiness, yet also like she was getting to know him all over again.
She had imagined many possibilities: that Chen Fan might be working on a tiny project, that he was only in the early stages, or that he might still be losing money.
But she never expected that Chen Fan's company would have already reached this level.
Two games with a combined monthly revenue of over thirty million.
Over thirty million.
Those words circled in her head, like a pebble dropped into a calm lake, the ripples spreading outward, unable to stop.
According to Chen Fan, in just a few months, his company had produced two such hit mobile games.
Although Lin Xi hadn't played "defend the carrot," she had seen her classmates playing it.
As for "happy elimination"—she was all too familiar with it. She pulled out her phone and glanced at the familiar icon on the screen; she had downloaded it not long ago and would play a few rounds whenever she was free. The addictive quality of clearing level after level would sometimes make her play for half an hour without realizing it.
But she had never imagined that both of these games were made by Chen Fan's company.
This realization was like a pebble cast into the lake of her heart, ripples spreading out in circles that just wouldn't stop.
Lin Xi felt quite conflicted at this moment.
On one hand, she felt proud. Her boyfriend, a university student only nineteen years old, had achieved such massive success with his first venture.
With the combined monthly revenue of two games exceeding thirty million, the figure was so large it felt almost surreal.
On the other hand, she felt a trace of dejection.
She felt like she was just a girl who couldn't be more ordinary.
Her grades weren't top-tier, her looks were only average, and she had no special talents to help him.
He ran such a large company and had so many things to deal with every day; there must be many outstanding people around him.
Like that beautiful assistant from earlier—she clearly looked like the capable and efficient type.
And what about her? What did he need from her?
It seemed like he needed everything, yet also like he needed nothing at all.
At this thought, Lin Xi fell silent.
She lowered her head, her fingers unconsciously swiping across her phone screen, not opening anything but just swiping mechanically.
Chen Fan noticed her odd behavior and asked, "What's wrong?"
"Nothing." Lin Xi looked up and shook her head, a smile returning to her face. It looked natural, her eyes curving and the corners of her mouth lifting, just like usual.
But Chen Fan felt something was off.
He thought about it but couldn't understand. Maybe she was just tired from the walk? He had shared so much today that she couldn't process it all at once; it was normal to be tired.
Chen Fan didn't press further. He stood up, poured her a glass of water, and placed it on the coffee table.
"When do you plan to head back to your hometown?" He shifted to a lighter topic.
"Tomorrow." Lin Xi picked up the glass and took a sip; the water temperature was just right, neither too hot nor too cold.
"Alright, I'll take you to the station tomorrow morning."
"No need." Lin Xi shook her head firmly. "I can take the bus myself. Your company is busy, and I know the way."
"The company is fine." Chen Fan leaned back, his tone casual. "It's the end of the year, so it's not that busy. Taking you won't get in the way of anything."
Lin Xi nodded. "Alright then."
After staying at the office for a while, Chen Fan left with Lin Xi.
They reached the underground garage and got into the car. Chen Fan started the engine and drove out of the Software Park.
After leaving the Software Park, he first headed to Changan University to pick up Lin Xi's luggage.
The car stopped at the school gate. Lin Xi went inside and returned twenty minutes later dragging her suitcase.
Chen Fan got out to help her put the suitcase in the trunk, then they got back in and drove onto the main road.
At dusk, Chen Fan found a restaurant where they had a quiet meal.
By the time they finished, it was dark. Chen Fan drove back to the house in Qujiang Vanke, parked in the garage, and they carried their things upstairs.
After ten o'clock, they took turns showering.
Chen Fan showered quickly and was out in ten minutes. Wearing his pajamas, he leaned against the headboard and idly scrolled through his phone while waiting for Lin Xi.
The bathroom door opened, and a cloud of steam billowed out.
Lin Xi was in light-colored pajamas, her hair still wet and wrapped in a towel over her shoulders, her cheeks flushed from the heat.
She sat on the sofa and started blow-drying her hair, the buzzing sound filling the room for a while.
Chen Fan put down his phone and watched her.
Once she finished, she put away the dryer and walked to the bed.
Chen Fan turned off the light. The room went dark, save for the faint glow of streetlights peeking through the curtains.
He slipped under the covers and turned on his side, resting his hand on her waist as he moved closer. Lin Xi didn't pull away.
"Xixi," he whispered, his voice clear in the dark.
"Mhm," she replied softly.
Chen Fan moved closer, his hand sliding up slightly from her waist.
Lin Xi caught his hand, stopping him.
"Not tonight," she said. Her voice was quiet but firm.
"What's wrong?"
"My 'relative' is visiting."
Chen Fan paused.
The room was silent for a few seconds.
A look of resignation crossed his face as he moved his hand back, no longer wandering. He tightened his embrace, pulling her into his arms.
Lin Xi didn't resist, leaning against his chest. The faint, pleasant scent of her shampoo drifted over.
"Keep your hands still," she said.
"I will."
"Really?"
"Mhm."
Since it was inconvenient for Lin Xi today, Chen Fan naturally wouldn't do anything, simply holding her as was his habit.
Lin Xi chuckled softly and said nothing more.
The room grew quiet, their steady breathing the only sound.
Soon, everything fell silent.
