141: Chapter 141 Your boyfriend is so good to you
The next day, Chen Fan was awakened by the sunlight.
The curtains weren't drawn tight, and a beam of light squeezed through the gap, landing right on his eyes.
He squinted and tilted his head, subconsciously reaching out to the side—it was empty, though the bedsheets still held a trace of warmth.
He put on his clothes and walked outside.
Upon reaching the living room, he didn't see Lin Xi.
He only heard movement in the kitchen.
The sound of a spatula hitting an iron pan, the buzzing of the range hood, and the soft patter of slippers on the floor.
Chen Fan followed the sounds to the kitchen.
Sure enough, he saw Lin Xi standing in front of the stove, wearing the same camisole pajamas from last night, exposing her jade-white shoulders.
Her hair was casually tied into a bun, with a few stray strands falling by her ears. She was wearing those oversized slippers, holding a spatula and flipping something.
In the pan were fried eggs, the edges fried to a crispy brown, the egg whites sizzling in the oil.
Chen Fan leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed, watching her back without making a sound.
When Lin Xi bent over to turn down the heat, the neckline of her pajamas dipped slightly.
She was completely unaware, focused on flipping the eggs with the spatula; her movements weren't exactly skillful, but she was very earnest.
"It's burnt." Chen Fan spoke up.
Lin Xi was startled by his sudden voice, the spatula nearly flying out of her hand. She turned back and glared at him. "When did you get here?"
"A while ago."
"How come you walk without making any sound?"
"It's because you were too focused."
Chen Fan walked over and wrapped his arms around her waist from behind.
Lin Xi shrank her neck and poked him with her elbow. "Stop it."
Chen Fan let go, helped her turn down the heat, and conveniently grabbed two plates to set on the counter.
Lin Xi dished out the fried eggs. There were two eggs; one was slightly burnt, and the other was cooked just right.
She went to the dining table, placed the slightly burnt one in front of herself, and gave the perfectly cooked one to Chen Fan.
Chen Fan saw this, reached out, and swapped the two plates, pulling the burnt one in front of himself. "I'll eat this one."
As he spoke, he picked up his chopsticks, took a bite of the burnt egg, chewed it, and his expression didn't change.
Lin Xi watched a little bit of the black burnt edge stick to the corner of his mouth and couldn't help but laugh. "Is it good?"
"Not bad, it even has a bit of a charred aroma."
Lin Xi's eyes curved into crescents as she began to eat the golden fried egg on her own plate.
After breakfast, Lin Xi began to clear the dishes.
Chen Fan lay on the sofa playing on his phone.
After cleaning up, Lin Xi went to the room to change clothes.
She was still wearing the white knit sweater and black miniskirt from yesterday, with skin-colored stockings on her legs.
Her hair was let down and combed straight, restoring her usual clean and sharp appearance.
After breakfast, seeing that it was still early, the two decided to go for a stroll around Changan.
Since coming to Changan, Lin Xi hadn't visited any of the places around the city yet.
She was very excited about it.
Chen Fan had spent over a decade in Changan in his previous life, but he hadn't been to many places either.
He hadn't been on the City Wall, hadn't been to the Terracotta Warriors, and though he had been to the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda, it was only once when his parents took him as a child; he hadn't been since growing up.
Chen Fan asked while changing his shoes, "Have you decided where to go?"
Lin Xi thought for a moment. "Let's go to the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda first. I haven't been there yet."
"Alright, then let's go to the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda."
After changing their shoes, the two immediately set off for the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda.
...
It was past seven in the evening.
After spending the whole day walking around and having a simple meal, Chen Fan drove Lin Xi to Changan University.
Half an hour later, the car stopped at the school gate.
The passenger door opened, Lin Xi stepped out and waved at Chen Fan. She waited until Chen Fan started the car and drove away before turning to walk into the school.
Five minutes later, she pushed open the dormitory door.
Her roommates were all there.
Seeing Lin Xi enter, the short-haired girl, Fang Linlin, spoke up directly, "Yo, Xixi, back from seeing your boyfriend?"
Su Ting, who was wearing glasses, took a look, a meaningful smile appearing in her eyes. "You even wore stockings specifically to see your boyfriend. This is the first time I've seen you wear them in such a long time."
"Exactly, even Su Ting, as flirtatious as she is, I've never seen her wear them." Fang Linlin added.
"Fang Linlin, you want to die!" Su Ting climbed directly onto Fang Linlin's bed, tackled her, and reached out to tickle the soft flesh on her waist.
"I was wrong, Tingting." Fang Linlin, tackled onto the bed, laughed until she couldn't catch her breath. She dodged while shouting, "I was wrong, okay? You're the purest, the most elegant, the most pristine—"
"Still talking!" Su Ting's hands didn't stop, and Fang Linlin twisted and turned, trying to dodge, laughing so hard tears were almost coming out.
Seeing the two of them fooling around, Lin Xi smiled helplessly and walked toward her own bed.
She put down her things, sat at her desk, and took out her phone to check the time.
Just then, the sharp-eyed Fang Linlin saw the phone in Lin Xi's hand and widened her eyes.
"Xixi, isn't that an iPhone 4 in your hand?"
"What? iPhone 4?" Su Ting was also drawn in by Fang Linlin's words.
She stopped what she was doing and turned to look at the phone in Lin Xi's hand. The black body, the smooth and glossy glass panel, and the bitten apple logo on the screen flashed under the light. Su Ting recognized it instantly—she had seen this phone countless times in advertisements, but this was the first time she had seen someone holding it in reality.
"Mm-hmm." Lin Xi nodded.
"It's really an iPhone 4?" Hearing this, Fang Linlin jumped off the bed, not even bothering with her slippers, and ran barefoot to Lin Xi. "Let me see, let me see."
Lin Xi handed her the phone. Fang Linlin took it, examined it over and over again, swiped her finger across the screen, and pressed the Home button. Her eyes lit up as if she had discovered a new continent.
It was no wonder the two were so surprised. Since the iPhone 4 hit the market, it had completely redefined the smartphone. Countless young boys and girls were attracted by its appearance and wanted to own one. Not long ago, there was even news about someone selling a kidney for an iPhone, which caused quite a stir.
As college freshmen, they naturally liked the iPhone too. However, in this day and age, an iPhone 4 was considered a luxury item for an average college student. Given their family backgrounds, it was unlikely their families would spend over five thousand to buy a phone.
Unexpectedly, their roommate was holding a brand-new iPhone 4 today.
"Xixi, did you buy it?" Su Ting asked curiously. She knew Lin Xi's family was well-off, but buying an iPhone 4 was still a bit over budget.
"No." Lin Xi shook her head. "My boyfriend bought it."
Although her tone was calm, there was a hint of pride in her eyes. She wasn't a vain person, but as a young girl, she couldn't help but want to show off a little.
"No way, your boyfriend just bought a phone worth several thousand just like that?" Fang Linlin widened her eyes, her voice rising an octave.
"Your boyfriend is really good to you." A flash of envy appeared on Su Ting's face.
Lin Xi smiled slightly and said nothing.
