227: Chapter 227 Nick Cheung's Arrival

"Why did you leave JD.com?" Chen Fan asked with some curiosity.

Li Nan did not hesitate, as if she had long expected to be asked this question, and answered very crisply: "I want to return to Chang'an to develop my career."

She paused, then continued: "I spent six years in Beijing. The platform at JD.com is very good, and there are many opportunities, but I am from Chang'an, and my parents are here. So I want to return to my hometown to develop."

"I understand," Chen Fan nodded.

Chen Fan was quite satisfied with this young woman's resume. Although they were hiring for an operations manager this time, her resume was fully capable of handling the job.

However, there were other interviewees later, so Chen Fan would not make a decision immediately; he still had to see the situation of the subsequent interviewees.

"I have no more questions. Let's see if you have any questions," Chen Fan said, looking at Li Nan.

Li Nan was silent for two seconds, her fingers gently rubbing against her knees as if she were weighing her words.

Then she raised her head, looked at Chen Fan frankly, and asked: "General Manager Chen, I would like to ask—since the company is a startup, can you guarantee that salaries will be paid on time?"

Her tone was calm when she said this, but the question was very direct, without any beating around the bush.

Chen Fan smiled upon hearing this.

He understood Li Nan's concerns.

He looked so young, and in her eyes, he was probably just a young "second-generation rich" with some family money, coming out to dabble in starting a business.

So it was normal for her to have doubts.

"I understand your concerns," Chen Fan leaned back in his chair, his tone unhurried. "Seeing that I, the boss, am so young, you're afraid that I'm one of those 'second-generation rich' types starting a business, and that the company will be a flash in the pan, right?"

Li Nan did not speak, but her eyes had already answered for her—that was exactly what she meant.

Chen Fan's mouth curved slightly, and he continued: "You can rest assured about that. I have more than just this company. There is another game company in Software Park, and 'defend the carrot' and 'happy elimination' were made by my company. I have the ability and sufficient funds to ensure that this company can continue to operate."

Hearing the names "defend the carrot" and "happy elimination," a flash of surprise crossed Li Nan's eyes.

Of course she knew these two games; she had 'defend the carrot' installed on her phone and often played a few rounds while waiting for the bus or during her lunch break.

She had always thought they were made by some big company, never expecting them to be products of the young man's company in front of her.

"So these two games were made by your company, General Manager Chen." Li Nan's tone carried a hint of surprise.

"Do you still have any concerns now?" Chen Fan looked at Li Nan and asked with a smile.

"I have no other questions." Li Nan's tone was visibly much more relaxed.

Chen Fan nodded, stood up, and extended his hand: "Alright, that's it for today. You go back and wait for the results; we will notify you if there is any news."

Li Nan stood up, shook hands with Chen Fan, nodded at Zhou Min, and turned to walk out of the meeting room.

After the door closed, Zhou Min turned to look at Chen Fan: "General Manager Chen, I feel like this Li Nan is quite good?"

"She is indeed not bad."

"Then do you intend to hire her?"

"Let's look at the others," Chen Fan said. "If there is no one more suitable later, then it will be her."

Zhou Min nodded, wrote an "A-" in the upper right corner of the resume, indicating pending and high priority, and then placed it into the "to be considered" pile.

...

In the blink of an eye, two days passed.

At ten o'clock on Wednesday morning, Chen Fan arrived at the company.

As soon as he stepped into the company entrance, Qiao Linlin came up to greet him. She was wearing a light gray knitted cardigan today, and her hair was casually tied behind her head.

"Boss, Nick Cheung is here, and he is now in the meeting room."

Chen Fan's eyes lit up upon hearing this. Last time they only reached a verbal agreement; he didn't expect the other party to act so quickly. It had only been two days, and Nick Cheung himself had come in person.

This efficiency was much higher than he had expected.

"When did he arrive?" Chen Fan asked while walking inside.

"He just arrived not long ago, about ten minutes ago." Qiao Linlin followed by his side and reported methodically, "Wang Jing is keeping him company in the meeting room."

Chen Fan nodded, and his pace unconsciously quickened a bit.

Passing through the corridor and turning the corner, the glass door of the meeting room was half-open.

Before Chen Fan even entered the door, he saw the situation inside—a lean man was sitting on the sofa, and it was indeed Nick Cheung.

In person, he looked even thinner than he did in the movies, but he was very energetic, sitting upright, exuding that professional sense unique to artists from the Hong Kong entertainment circle.

Sitting next to him was a woman in her thirties, with short hair, looking capable; she must be his agent.

Chen Fan pushed the door open and walked in.

Hearing the movement, Wang Jing immediately stood up with an appropriately pleasant smile on her face: "General Manager Chen, you're here."

"Mm." Chen Fan nodded, his gaze naturally falling on the visitor, "This must be Mr. Nick Cheung."

Nick Cheung was still sitting on the sofa at this moment, feeling a bit confused.

He sized up the young man in front of him—very tall, dressed in casual clothing, looking to be in good shape, with well-defined facial features, and a sense of composure on him that didn't match his age.

He was not quite sure what this handsome guy did. He only heard that Ms. Wang call him "General Manager Chen." Could he be some executive of the company? But this was too young.

Although he had doubts in his heart, Nick Cheung still stood up and enthusiastically extended his hand: "Hello, I am Nick Cheung. May I ask who this gentleman is?"

Wang Jing, who was on the side, hurriedly introduced: "Mr. Nick Cheung, let me introduce you. This is the boss of our company, General Manager Chen."

Hearing that the handsome guy in front of him was the company boss, a flash of genuine surprise crossed Nick Cheung's face.

However, he was, after all, a seasoned veteran who had been in the entertainment industry for many years; what kind of big storms had he not seen?

That bit of surprise was just a flash; he quickly regained his smile, unconsciously increased the strength of his grip on Chen Fan's hand, and his tone became warmer: "So it is General Manager Chen. Hello, hello."

Chen Fan held his hand and smiled politely: "Mr. Cheung, I have long admired your name. You've had a tiring journey."

"Not tiring at all, not tiring at all." Nick Cheung waved his hand, looked Chen Fan up and down, and couldn't help but exclaim: "General Manager Chen, you are so handsome; it's rare to see that even in our Hong Kong. It's a real pity that you don't act in movies with your looks."

This was not entirely just polite talk.

Nick Cheung was accustomed to seeing beautiful men and women in the entertainment industry, but the young man in front of him was truly outstanding. His facial features were good, and most importantly, his temperament was also remarkable. Placed in front of a camera, he was definitely material for this profession.

"Mr. Cheung is too kind. I am just a businessman; how would I know how to act in movies?" Chen Fan said with a smile.

"Whether doing business or acting in movies, a handsome guy is a handsome guy," Nick Cheung said with a smile, his tone carrying a bit of Hong Kong-style heartiness. "As soon as I saw General Manager Chen, I felt we were on the same wavelength. Our cooperation will definitely be pleasant."

Chen Fan smiled, turned to the side, and made a gesture of invitation, signaling Nick Cheung to sit down: "Please sit, Mr. Cheung. Let's chat slowly."
