9: Uploading the new book begins at Chapter 9.

Chen Fan pulled back his thoughts and continued walking toward his home. In less than five minutes, he saw a familiar large red gate.

Standing at the entrance and looking at this familiar gate, he hesitated for a moment, not daring to push it open.

After calming his emotions, Chen Fan slowly pushed open the door and walked inside.

Accompanied by the sound of the door opening, a familiar figure walked out of the kitchen.

It was Chen Fan's mother, Wang Mei.

She was wearing a blue floral apron. Upon seeing Chen Fan, she haphazardly wiped her wet hands on the apron several times.

At forty-three, Wang Mei's hair was still black, unlike ten-plus years later, when the hair at her temples would be mostly white, and no amount of dye could cover the grey beneath.

Seeing his mother looking young again, Chen Fan felt a surge of excitement in his heart and momentarily didn't know what to say.

"Xiao Fan is back~" Wang Mei said, looking at Chen Fan.

"Mom~" Chen Fan tried his best to keep his tone calm.

"What are you doing standing at the door? Hurry in, the food is almost ready."

"Mm." Chen Fan nodded, took two steps into the house, then stopped again. "Where's Dad?"

"Your dad went to do some work; he should be back soon."

Chen Fan's father, Chen Jianjun, was an electrician and plumber who mainly installed water and electricity for newly built houses.

There were quite a lot of people building houses these days, so Chen Jianjun's income was decent; after supporting the family, there was still some spare money left.

In a few years, when fewer houses were being built in the surrounding villages, Chen Jianjun would move to the county seat. Because he was a skilled electrician, he would find a job in hotel property management and work there until retirement.

Since Chen Fan had been reborn, he definitely wouldn't let his father continue doing that. That kind of work earned hard-earned money through physical labor.

Once he made some money, he would have his father switch to an easier job, or perhaps open a small store for the two elders. As for why he wouldn't let Chen Jianjun just rest, it was because Chen Fan knew his father's personality; he definitely couldn't stay idle, so it was better to find him something to do.

Just as he was thinking, the door was pushed open, and a figure less than 1.7 meters tall walked in. It was Chen Jianjun, carrying a tool bag on his back.

"Dad." Chen Fan stepped forward and naturally took the bag from Chen Jianjun's hand.

"Oh," a flash of surprise crossed Chen Jianjun's eyes, "my son has grown up."

Chen Fan gave a silly grin. In his past life, he had been pampered by Chen Jianjun and Wang Mei since childhood. Although the family wasn't wealthy, he had never suffered any hardships. This was the first time he had ever taken the initiative to take Chen Jianjun's bag, so it was no wonder Chen Jianjun was surprised.

"Dinner is ready, you two hurry up and wash your hands to eat." Wang Mei's voice drifted over from the kitchen.

"Coming~" This was Chen Fan's voice.

"Coming, stop rushing us~" This was Chen Jianjun's.

The meal Wang Mei made today was hand-pulled noodles. Although it was just a very common home-cooked meal, Chen Fan, with his Northwest palate, liked it very much.

When the meal was nearly finished, Chen Fan looked at Chen Jianjun: "Dad, I'm going to the town to play with classmates tomorrow. Can you give me 20 yuan?"

Since there was no computer at home, if he wanted to write his novel, he had to go to the internet cafe in town. Chen Fan only had 4 yuan left on him, so he needed some funds.

When it came to giving money, Chen Jianjun had always been very generous, so Chen Fan wasn't worried about not getting the funds.

Hearing Chen Fan's words, before Wang Mei could speak, Chen Jianjun pulled a stack of bills from his pocket, pulled out a 50-yuan bill, and handed it to Chen Fan. "Son, don't be stingy when you're out playing. Buy whatever you want to eat."

"Just give him 20, why are you giving him 50?" Wang Mei couldn't help but speak up.

Hearing this, Chen Fan quickly grabbed the 50-yuan bill from Chen Jianjun's hand. "Thanks, Dad."

Seeing this, Wang Mei glared at Chen Fan but didn't say anything more.

In fact, Wang Mei was just saying it; in her heart, she also worried whether Chen Fan would have enough money to spend while out playing.

After taking the money, Chen Fan leaned back on the sofa and squinted his eyes as if resting, but he was actually checking the system in his mind.

Because just as he had taken the 50 yuan, the system's notification had sounded.

[Ding, Wealth Points +50]

Hearing this notification, Chen Fan was somewhat surprised. He hadn't expected that money given by his parents would also count as his own income and could increase his Wealth Points.

He opened the wealth store to take a look. Today, the store was still mostly filled with worthless items. Besides that, things like the previous energy potion hadn't refreshed today; instead, two new products had appeared.

One was [High School Biology Mastery] for 50,000 Wealth Points.

One was [Memory Enhancement] for 20,000 Wealth Points.

Both were good things, but unfortunately, Chen Fan couldn't afford them now, so he could only exit the system with regret.

...

The next day, after Chen Fan finished breakfast and said goodbye to his parents, he took the bus to the town.

The bus from the village to the town cost two yuan, and he arrived in about ten minutes.

After arriving at the internet cafe, Chen Fan first scanned the room. Fortunately, it wasn't packed; there were empty machines.

In this era, on weekends, internet cafes were basically always packed. Chen Fan was quite lucky today that there were still vacant machines.

After setting up a machine, he wasn't in a hurry to type. He planned to upload the novel first, as his saved drafts were already sufficient to start uploading.

He opened the Qidian Chinese Website, logged into his account, entered the Writer's Center, and began creating the work.

High Martial Era

Author: Pen name

...

After creating the work, Chen Fan uploaded ten chapters at once, with each chapter being nearly 3,000 words, totaling about 30,000 words.

The remaining saved drafts were nearly 70,000 words.

After finishing the upload, he just had to wait for the work to be reviewed.

Passing the review was easy in this era, almost instantaneous. The difficult part was getting a contract. Usually, a contract was offered at 100,000 words, and some authors didn't sign until they had written 300,000 words.

Chen Fan didn't doubt whether he could get a contract. Given the quality of High Martial Era, he estimated he could sign after fifty or sixty thousand words.

After uploading the work, Chen Fan continued typing.

Chen Fan paid for six hours on the machine at 2 yuan per hour. As the machine's time-up notification sounded, Chen Fan had also completed 40,000 words.

He didn't plan to keep writing. Going back late would worry his parents; after all, in their eyes, he was still a child.

Therefore, once the first payment for the manuscript came in, he definitely had to buy a computer first. Then he could type at home.

...

The next afternoon.

Under Wang Mei's send-off, Chen Fan boarded the bus to the county seat.

He arrived at the county seat at 7 PM. After putting his things back in his room, Chen Fan didn't rest and went straight to the Hongshulin Internet Cafe.

After setting up a machine, Chen Fan wasn't in a hurry to type. He first clicked to check the data of his work.

The work had already passed the review, and the collection count had reached over 400.

Chen Fan stared at that number for two seconds, the corners of his mouth curling up slightly.

On the second day of the new book's release, there were over four hundred collections—for a complete newcomer, this performance was already quite brilliant.

Firstly, his updates were aggressive; he had thrown out ten chapters right at the start, making it a satisfying read for the audience;

Secondly, the novel's quality was solid, with a novel setting and a tight pace, which was enough to retain people.

With these two advantages combined, it would be hard not to become popular.

Chen Fan leaned back slightly against the chair, gazing at the collection count on the screen,
