90: Chapter 90 I'm naturally beautiful and can't get tanned.

Counselor Shen Na collected all the slips, counted them to confirm the number was correct, then picked up the first one, unfolded it, and read, "Zhao Zitong."

She turned around and drew a stroke under the name "Zhao Zitong" on the blackboard.

The second one unfolded: "Wang Lei." She drew a stroke under "Wang Lei."

The third: "Zhao Zitong."

The fourth: "Zhao Zitong."

The fifth: "Zhao Zitong."

With four consecutive votes for Zhao Zitong, people in the classroom started whispering. Wang Lei sat in his seat, his expression relatively calm, but his fingers were tapping unconsciously on his knees.

The sixth: "Wang Lei."

The seventh: "Zhao Zitong."

The eighth: "Zhao Zitong."

...

Counselor Shen Na read them out one by one, and the tally marks on the blackboard grew stroke by stroke. The column for Zhao Zitong grew longer and longer, while Wang Lei's side remained a few strokes behind.

When she got to the last few slips, Counselor Shen Na paused, glanced at the slip in her hand, and read, "Wang Lei."

Then another: "Zhao Zitong."

For the last one, she unfolded it, took a look, and the corners of her mouth curved slightly: "Zhao Zitong."

She finished reading.

Counselor Shen Na stepped back so the whole class could see the results on the blackboard.

Zhao Zitong: 29 votes.

Wang Lei: 15 votes.

"The class monitor is Zhao Zitong," Counselor Shen Na announced, taking the lead in applauding.

A round of applause broke out below, and Zhao Zitong stood up and bowed to everyone.

Wang Lei was also clapping, a smile on his face, though it was slightly forced.

Chen Fan patted him on the shoulder without saying anything.

"Alright, the class monitor has been elected. By convention, each class also needs a deputy class monitor and a study committee member. I suggest that classmate Wang Lei takes on the role of deputy class monitor. Does anyone have any objections?"

As soon as she finished speaking, the classroom was silent for a moment.

Zhao Zitong was the first to speak up: "I have no objections. Wang Lei spoke very well just now."

A few students chimed in: "No objections." "That works."

Counselor Shen Na nodded: "Then classmate Wang Lei will serve as the deputy class monitor."

Wang Lei was stunned for a moment, then his eyes lit up. Although he didn't get to be class monitor, deputy class monitor was fine—at least it was a committee position, and it counted as a "class official" when mentioned to others. He stood up, nodded at Zhao Zitong, and smiled at the whole class: "Thank you everyone, I will cooperate well with the class monitor's work."

A round of applause broke out below; it wasn't enthusiastic, but it was polite enough.

After Wang Lei sat down, Liu Zhipeng leaned over and whispered: "Not bad, Brother Lei, deputy class monitor is still an official position."

Wang Lei couldn't suppress the corners of his mouth, but he still waved his hand with feigned composure: "It's just a deputy position, just a deputy."

"A deputy is still an official," Liu Zhipeng said with a serious face. "Back in ancient times, that would be the second-in-command."

Wang Lei was amused by him; this time he laughed genuinely, and the bit of disappointment from earlier was washed away.

Chen Fan leaned back in his chair, looking at Wang Lei, who was trying to hold back a smile, and a smile appeared on his face.

Having someone in the dorm as a class committee member meant that things like asking for leave or dorm inspections could be handled with more flexibility. This result was even better than he had anticipated.

After the class committee members were selected, they also elected the Youth League branch secretary, discipline committee member, and so on.

Chen Fan had no interest in these, so he didn't participate in the elections. The Youth League branch secretary was a girl, and the discipline committee member was a boy wearing black-rimmed glasses. Each of them went up to say a few words, the audience clapped, and it was settled.

What Chen Fan didn't expect was that universities actually had a study committee member position, and no one was running for it.

Counselor Counselor Shen Na looked around, her gaze sweeping from left to right, then back from right to left, and she smiled as she made the final decision: "No one running, right? Then the study committee member will be Chen Fan. He has the highest college entrance exam score in our School of Management; it's only logical for him to be the study committee member."

Chen Fan was leaning back in his chair, lost in thought, and when he suddenly heard his name, he was stunned for a moment before raising his hand to protest: "Teacher, I refuse."

"Why?" Counselor Shen Na looked at him with a smile, her eyes curved behind her glasses, her tone like she was coaxing a child.

"Teacher, when I was little, a fortune teller said I couldn't be an official. If I become an official—"

"Alright, enough with that rhetoric." Counselor Shen Na interrupted him with a smile, resting her hands on the podium, looking at him with a grin that clearly said, "Let's see what else you can make up."

"709 points in the college entrance exam, the highest in the School of Management. If you don't do it, who will? Besides, being a study committee member isn't really an official position; it's just collecting homework and passing on study notices. It won't tire you out."

Chen Fan opened his mouth, wanting to struggle a bit more, but meeting Counselor Shen Na's smiling eyes, he knew the matter was settled; saying anything else would be a waste of breath.

Seeing that he couldn't refuse, Chen Fan had to accept it helplessly.

However, he made up his mind that in the future, he would dump these tasks onto Zhao Zitong and Wang Lei as much as possible. After all, one was the class monitor and the other the deputy, so it was only right for them to do more work.

After the class committee members were confirmed, Counselor Shen Na turned around and wrote a string of numbers on the blackboard.

"This is our class's QQ group number. Everyone go back and join it; all future notices will be posted in the group."

The chalk writing was neat and tidy, every stroke clear.

"That's all for today. Military training starts tomorrow. Everyone remember to gather at the playground at seven o'clock tomorrow morning. Don't be late."

After saying this, Counselor Shen Na picked up her folder, smiled at everyone, and turned to leave the classroom.

"Let's go, back to the dorm." Liu Zhipeng was the first to stand up, pushing his chair back with a harsh screech.

The others also crowded out as they walked.

...

It was past nine in the evening. Chen Fan was lying on the bed playing with his phone when suddenly the ringtone sounded.

The name "Xixi" lit up on the screen.

He answered the call, and Lin Xi's gentle voice came through the receiver.

"Did registration go smoothly today?"

"It was okay, went quite smoothly." Chen Fan rolled over and switched the phone to the other ear. "Have you arrived in Chang'an?"

"Not yet. My parents are driving me to Chang'an tomorrow to register."

Chen Fan paused, his tone filled with a bit of regret: "It's a pity I have military training tomorrow, otherwise I could have accompanied you to register."

"It's okay." Lin Xi's tone held a hint of a smile, her voice soft. "Remember to apply sunscreen during military training, don't get sunburned."

"Don't worry, I was born with good looks, I won't get sunburned."

"Pfft—"

Lin Xi couldn't hold it back and laughed out loud. The crisp laughter came through the receiver like wind chimes on a summer evening.

Hearing it, the corners of Chen Fan's mouth also curved up.

"I won't tease you anymore."

Lin Xi stopped laughing, her voice softening. "Get some rest early, don't get too tired during military training tomorrow."

"Mhm, you rest early too."

"Okay."

The two were quiet for a few seconds.

Neither of them wanted to hang up first.

Only shallow breathing remained on the phone, separated by dozens of kilometers, as if they were listening to see if the other had fallen asleep.

Finally, Lin Xi spoke softly: "Then I'll hang up first. Goodnight."

"Goodnight."

The call ended, and the screen went dark.
