88: Chapter 88 Self-Introduction
Walking up to the podium, she set down her folder, lifted her head to look at the people below, and swept her gaze gently from left to right.
The classroom gradually quieted down, the buzzing of voices receding like the tide.
"Everyone is mostly here, right?" She smiled, revealing two shallow dimples, her voice not loud but very clear. "Then let me introduce myself first—I am your counselor, and my name is Counselor Shen Na."
She wrote her name on the blackboard; her handwriting was elegant and neat.
"Holy cow, did you see that? The counselor is a beauty," Liu Zhipeng couldn't help but whisper, leaning forward as if to get a better look.
Chen Fan was also a bit surprised; he hadn't expected the counselor for this year to be a young woman, and a quite pretty one at that.
Although she wasn't the type of super-stunning beauty, she was definitely pretty, giving off the feeling of a mature big sister. When she spoke, her eyes curved, making her feel approachable.
"In the future, if you all need anything, you can come to me—whether it's about studies or daily life, it's all fine." Counselor Shen Na rested her hands on the podium and swept her gaze around again. "Of course, if you have free time, you can also come to chat with me. Alright, let's start roll call—when I call your name, shout 'Here.'"
She opened the folder, picked up the roster, and cleared her throat.
"Chen Fan—"
Chen Fan was taken aback when he heard his name.
He was actually the first one called.
He paused, probably because he had the highest score. The thought crossed his mind for a second. He raised his hand, his voice neither loud nor soft: "Here."
Counselor Shen Na lifted her head, her gaze following the sound to land on Chen Fan. She glanced at him, the corners of her mouth curving slightly.
She put a checkmark on the roster, then lowered her head to continue reading.
"Zhang Yating—"
"Here!" A girl in the front row with a ponytail replied crisply.
"Wang Lei—"
"He—re—" A voice from the back row dragged out the sound, but after being nudged by someone next to him, the end was cut short.
Counselor Shen Na didn't look up, but the curve of her lips grew a bit wider.
...
As names were called one by one, the sound of "Here" echoed throughout the classroom.
Some voices were loud and clear, some were as soft as a mosquito's hum, some dragged out the tone, and some were crisp and decisive.
Whenever Counselor Shen Na called someone, everyone would follow her gaze to look in that direction, as if getting to know each other in advance.
After reading the last name, Counselor Shen Na closed the roster and looked up at the people below.
"Alright, I've matched the names to the faces." She smiled, resting her hands on the podium. "Next, let's get to know each other. Take turns coming up to give a self-introduction. Just speak casually; two or three minutes is fine."
She paused, her gaze landing on the student at the far left of the first row. "Let's start from the far left of the first row, one by one."
As soon as she finished speaking, a rustling sound arose from below.
Soon, a girl wearing glasses stood up from the first row and walked to the podium.
She looked a bit nervous, her fingers unconsciously twisting the corner of her clothes, and her voice was soft when she spoke.
"Hello everyone, my name is Li Xin, from Qinghai Province. Hobbies... I like reading books and listening to music."
After finishing, she bowed slightly and quickly walked off the podium.
A round of not-so-enthusiastic applause broke out below—everyone hadn't gotten into the swing of things yet, and the clapping was scattered.
The second person to go up was also a girl, dressed a bit more maturely, wearing light makeup, and looked about a 70 out of 100 in terms of appearance.
She was much more composed than the first one. Standing on the podium, she swept her gaze around and spoke clearly: "Hello everyone, my name is Chen Siyu, from Xijiang Province. I like traveling and photography. If any classmates have the same interests, we can exchange ideas."
This time, the applause was a bit louder than before.
The third, fourth, fifth... one after another went up to the podium. Some were so nervous they stuttered, stating their names and then running down as if fleeing; others generously shared a bunch of hobbies, as if they wanted to recount their entire life story from childhood to now.
Girls were generally more articulate than boys, and several of them received quite a bit of applause when they came down.
"Next, please continue."
A girl stood up and walked to the podium with confidence.
She was wearing a light blue shirt, black casual pants, her hair was loose, and she wore light makeup.
Standing by the podium, she didn't look like a freshman; she looked more like a senior student.
As for her looks, they weren't stunning, but she was quite pleasant to look at—the type that would make people take a second glance on the street but wouldn't leave a lasting impression.
"Hello everyone, my name is Zhao Zitong, from Anhui Province. Hobbies, well, they're quite varied—dancing, photography, shopping, I like everything. In the future, anyone who wants to hang out can find me." She paused, swept her gaze across the classroom, her tone filled with confidence. "I served as class monitor throughout high school, and after coming to university, I'd like to continue serving my classmates. I hope everyone will support me."
After finishing, she bowed slightly and walked off the podium.
A round of applause broke out below, much more enthusiastic than before. People whispered below: "This one looks quite reliable." "She is quite confident."
Counselor Shen Na put a checkmark on the list and looked up at the remaining half of the classroom: "Alright, next, please continue."
After a few more people, it was the turn of the seat in the middle of the classroom by the window.
A girl stood up and walked onto the podium.
The classroom went quiet for a moment.
The girl was about 1.65 meters tall, with very delicate features. Her long black hair was simply let down, without any extra accessories, naturally hanging by her shoulders.
Standing on the podium, she neither smiled nor spoke, a layer of faint coldness surrounding her, giving off a "stay away" vibe.
"Hello everyone, my name is Shen Qing, and my hobby is reading."
Just those two simple sentences, her voice cold and clear, like the wind on an autumn evening. After finishing, she turned and walked back to her seat, her pace unhurried, the whole process taking no more than twenty seconds.
The room was quiet for a second or two, and then applause broke out—more enthusiastic than before, with the boys clapping especially hard.
Liu Zhipeng couldn't help but lean over and whisper: "This girl is really good-looking."
Wang Lei glanced at him and also lowered his voice: "Don't bother thinking about it, she's not your type."
"Then whose type is she?"
Wang Lei's gaze drifted toward Chen Fan: "Maybe there's a chance for Chen Fan."
Liu Zhipeng froze for a moment, then turned to look at Chen Fan, sizing him up—over 1.8 meters tall, broad shoulders, long legs, and his features were indeed striking. He nodded earnestly: "Makes sense."
Chen Fan didn't respond, his gaze resting on Shen Qing for a second before withdrawing it.
He didn't have any thoughts about Shen Qing. She was pretty, and her figure was nice, but she was too cold; she wasn't the type he liked.
He liked girls who smiled warmly and spoke softly. This type of ice queen, while good to look at, was just for looking.
