53: Chapter 53 My Cousin's Roommates

"Tongtong, what's this on your desk?" Zhou Yumeng suddenly asked curiously.

"A gift my younger brother bought for me," Chen Tong said with a hint of pride in her voice.

"See for yourself."

Zhou Yumeng didn't stand on ceremony. She took the DSLR's box out of the bag, opened it, and glanced inside. She froze, then looked up at Chen Tong with her eyes wide open.

"Holy crap, a DSLR?!"

Her voice was a bit loud, causing several students in the front rows to look back. It even drew the attention of the girl next to her.

The teacher on the podium also looked up. Zhou Yumeng quickly shrunk her neck and lowered her voice.

"A Nikon? How much did this cost?"

Chen Tong said with a smile, "I don't know. My brother bought it, ask him."

Zhou Yumeng immediately turned around, her eyes sparkling as she looked at Chen Fan. "How much was it? How much?"

"Over six thousand yuan."

"Over six thousand... you're so good to your sister~" Zhou Yumeng said with some envy. "Why does my brother always steal my New Year's money?"

Chen Tong's shoulders shook with laughter. "That's just your bad luck."

The girl with glasses next to her pushed up her frames and said slowly, "You could sell your brother, then use the money to buy yourself a gift."

Zhou Yumeng's eyes lit up. "That makes sense!"

Su Mian only just reacted. She lifted her head, her gaze drifting blankly across everyone's faces, and then asked softly, "What are you guys laughing about?"

Zhou Yumeng looked at her and sighed. "It's nothing, go back to your daydreaming."

Just then, the bell rang. The teacher on the podium packed up and left immediately.

The classroom was instantly filled with the rustling of books and the sound of chairs moving.

Zhou Yumeng stood up at once and gave a big stretch. "Finally, class is over! I'm starving. Chen Tong, going to the cafeteria?"

"Not the cafeteria. My brother is here today, so I have to take him out to eat. Are you guys coming?"

Zhou Yumeng's eyes lit up. "Your treat? Then we're definitely going!"

She immediately turned to Zhao Ran and Su Mian. "What about you two? Chen Tong is treating, are you coming?"

Zhao Ran pushed up her glasses and said in a slow, deliberate manner, "Then I'll go too."

Zhou Yumeng then looked at Su Mian.

Su Mian was currently looking down, stuffing her pen into her pencil case. After getting it in, she nodded with satisfaction and finally looked up, realizing everyone was watching her.

"Huh?" She blinked, her expression blank.

Zhou Yumeng didn't know whether to laugh or cry. "Chen Tong's brother is here, and she's asking if you want to go eat. Chen Tong's treat."

"Eat?" Su Mian thought for a moment and asked seriously, "Where are we going?"

"Outside. Your sister Chen Tong is treating."

Su Mian turned her gaze to Chen Tong and gave a soft smile. "Okay."

Leaving the teaching building, the afternoon sun was a bit dazzling. Chen Tong looked back at Chen Fan. "Shall we have grilled fish for lunch? That place at the East Gate tastes pretty good."

"Sure, you guys decide," Chen Fan nodded.

Zhou Yumeng immediately raised her hand. "Grilled fish is good, grilled fish is good! I want it spicy!"

Zhao Ran was still slow-paced. "Whatever works."

Chen Tong looked at Su Mian, who was walking at the very back. "What about Mianmian? Can you eat spicy food?"

Su Mian was looking down at the path beneath her feet. Hearing someone call her, she looked up with a blank expression. "Huh?"

"Asking if you eat spicy food," Zhou Yumeng leaned in and said loudly.

Su Mian thought for a moment and nodded seriously. "Yes."

"Alright then, grilled fish it is." Chen Tong waved her hand. "Let's go, there'll be a line if we're late."

The group headed toward the East Gate.

Chen Fan followed behind, but his gaze drifted toward Su Mian.

He hadn't noticed in the classroom, but now Chen Fan realized this girl Su Mian was quite well-endowed for her slender frame. Based on the curves visible, she was at least a D+.

Chen Tong leaned over to Chen Fan at some point and whispered, "What are you looking at?"

Chen Fan withdrew his gaze. "Nothing."

Chen Tong chuckled twice but didn't expose him. She jogged to catch up with Su Mian and grabbed her arm.

Su Mian swayed a bit from being pulled. She looked down at Chen Tong's hand holding her arm, then looked up at her, her eyes filled with a bit of confusion.

The group walked and chatted for about ten minutes before turning into an alley and stopping in front of a small grilled fish shop.

"We're here, we're here!"

They filed inside and sat at a table by the window. Chen Tong and Zhou Yumeng naturally sat on one side, with Zhao Ran next to Zhou Yumeng. Su Mian stood there for two seconds, then slowly walked around to the other side and sat by the window.

Chen Fan hesitated for a moment and sat down next to Su Mian.

Zhou Yumeng glanced at him, the corners of her mouth curling up, but she didn't say anything.

The proprietress came over with a menu. "What would you like to eat? Our specialty is the spicy grilled fish. We also have garlic and pickled cabbage flavors, depending on your taste."

Chen Tong took the menu and asked Chen Fan while flipping through it, "Do you eat spicy food?"

"I can."

"Then the spicy one, and make it a big one." Chen Tong closed the menu and looked at the owner. "Do you have a four-catty grass carp?"

The owner nodded. "Yes."

"Alright, one of those." Chen Tong continued ordering, "One serving each of tofu skin, enoki mushrooms, potato slices, and wide noodles. Also an order of lotus root slices and wood ear mushrooms... and five servings of rice."

Zhou Yumeng whispered from the side, "Can we finish all that?"

Chen Tong rolled her eyes at her. "My brother can eat more than half the fish by himself. Do you think everyone is like you, full after two bites?"

Chen Fan chuckled from the side but didn't speak.

The owner noted the order and asked, "What drinks would you like?"

Zhou Yumeng raised her hand. "I want a minute maid!"

Zhao Ran remained slow-paced. "Whatever is fine."

Chen Tong looked at Su Mian. "Mianmian?"

Su Mian was looking down, staring blankly at the slightly greasy plastic tablecloth. Hearing someone call her, she looked up with a blank expression. "Huh?"

"Asking what you want to drink," Zhou Yumeng leaned in and said loudly.

Su Mian thought for a moment and said seriously, "Plain water is fine."

Zhou Yumeng gave her a look of exasperation. "Someone else is treating, and you order plain water?"

Su Mian blinked, seemingly not understanding why she couldn't order plain water.

Chen Fan spoke up from the side, "Get her a minute maid too. I'll just have an Ice Peak."

Su Mian turned to look at him and gave a soft smile. "Thank you."

Chen Fan nodded and didn't say anything.

Chen Tong: "Alright, then four minute maids and one Ice Peak. That's all."

"Okay."

The owner noted the order and turned to leave.

While waiting for the food, Chen Tong introduced her roommates to Chen Fan. Besides Zhou Yumeng and Su Mian, the other one with glasses was named Zhao Ran.

Chen Tong's roommates also learned that Chen Fan had just taken the college entrance exam this year and wasn't a university student yet.
