263: Chapter 263 Inviting Shen Na to Dinner
Counselor Shen Na froze for a moment, then immediately reacted, reaching out to pat his arm. It wasn't a heavy blow, but it carried a hint of feigned annoyance: "You brat, you scared me to death. I really thought you were going to fail your course."
Chen Fan smiled and pulled his hand back: "I wouldn't dare. Even if the Dean really wanted to fail me, I couldn't let Sister Na go and plead for me."
Counselor Shen Na glared at him: "Alright, as long as you're fine. I'm leaving then." She turned and walked two steps, then looked back at him again: "Right, what exactly did the Dean want with you?"
"The school wants to do an interview about entrepreneurship and asked for my cooperation," Chen Fan said truthfully.
Counselor Shen Na asked: "You agreed?"
Chen Fan nodded.
Counselor Shen Na asked with a curious look: "Didn't you not want to accept interviews before? Why did you agree this time?"
Chen Fan shrugged indifferently: "I can't escape it in the end anyway, so it makes no difference whether it's early or late. I already refused once; this time the Dean even brought up the Principal, so it wouldn't be right to refuse again."
Counselor Shen Na nodded, then as if remembering something, said excitedly: "If your classmates knew you were actually the boss of a company with a monthly revenue of over a hundred million, I wonder what their reaction would be. Especially those girls, they'd probably be so regretful... Thinking about that scene is quite interesting."
Chen Fan looked at Counselor Shen Na helplessly: "Sister Na, you're everyone's counselor, why are you just looking for entertainment?"
Counselor Shen Na shrugged: "Being a counselor doesn't stop me from enjoying the show."
Chen Fan didn't know what to do with Counselor Shen Na. He hadn't expected his own counselor to have such a gossipy side.
Just as he was thinking about saying goodbye to Counselor Shen Na, he suddenly remembered that he had been talking about treating her to dinner since last semester but had never fulfilled the promise.
He had been so busy before that he had forgotten about it, dragging it out until now. Isn't today the perfect opportunity?
"Sister Na, do you have any free time later?" Chen Fan called out to her.
Counselor Shen Na turned around and looked at him suspiciously: "What is it?"
"Didn't I say before that I wanted to treat you to a meal? I just never found the opportunity."
Counselor Shen Na looked at him teasingly: "You, a busy person, actually remembered to treat me to dinner? I thought you had forgotten about it."
Chen Fan touched his nose awkwardly: "It's just that I happen to have time now."
Counselor Shen Na thought for a moment, her tone carrying a hint of politeness: "There's no need for dinner, I still have to work this afternoon."
"Then, after you get off work in the evening, is that okay?"
Counselor Shen Na didn't answer; a flash of hesitation crossed her eyes.
Chen Fan continued: "Sister Na, you wouldn't even agree to a single meal, would you?"
Counselor Shen Na looked at him, was silent for two seconds, then spoke: "Alright, but I get to decide what we eat."
"Fine, then I'll come pick you up tonight."
"Don't," Counselor Shen Na waved her hand. "If you drive that Land Rover of yours to school and I get in, who knows what people will say if they see us. It would be fine if students saw it, but if other teachers saw it, I wouldn't be able to explain myself."
Chen Fan thought about it, and that made sense: "Then I won't drive; I'll take a taxi over."
"Suit yourself."
"Alright, see you tonight."
...
After six in the evening, Chen Fan took a bus to the entrance of Chang'an Jiaotong University.
He had intended to take a taxi, but realized there was a bus that went directly there, so he just took that instead.
He hadn't taken a bus in a long time; riding one occasionally felt quite unique—there was a beauty in the slow pace.
Upon arriving at the school gate, Chen Fan took out his phone and sent a message to Counselor Shen Na: "Sister Na, I've arrived, I'm at the school gate."
Soon, Counselor Shen Na's reply came back: "Wait five minutes for me."
Chen Fan put away his phone and leaned against the railing by the roadside to wait.
Five minutes later, Counselor Shen Na walked out of the school gate, wearing a white dress.
When Counselor Shen Na walked closer, Chen Fan noticed that she had put on makeup, and her sneakers had been replaced with a pair of seven-centimeter high heels.
She looked even prettier than she had during the day, and she had an extra touch of mature charm.
Counselor Shen Na walked up to him and looked him up and down: "How did you get here?"
"I took the bus," Chen Fan said casually.
A flash of surprise crossed Counselor Shen Na's eyes: "A big boss like you taking the bus?"
"What boss? There's no boss here, just a sister and a younger brother."
A trace of a smile flashed in Counselor Shen Na's eyes as she turned and walked two steps toward the side of the road: "Let's go."
Chen Fan followed: "What are we eating?"
"Barbecue."
A question mark appeared on Chen Fan's forehead: "Just barbecue? I was hoping to treat you to a big meal."
"What's wrong with barbecue?" Counselor Shen Na turned her head to look at him: "Don't you think barbecue paired with ice-cold beer is perfect for this season?"
Chen Fan thought about it; it was indeed perfect.
On a summer night, the smell of charcoal from a roadside stall, the ice-cold beer, and the aroma of chili powder and cumin mixed together—these things combined were more appetizing than any big meal.
He really did want to treat Counselor Shen Na to something nice; after all, spending thousands or ten thousand on a meal now was no different from spending a few bucks.
But since Counselor Shen Na wanted to eat barbecue, Chen Fan could only go along with her wishes.
"Alright, then let's have barbecue."
The two hailed a taxi, Counselor Shen Na gave an address, the driver acknowledged it, stepped on the gas, and drove onto the main road.
Twenty-something minutes later, the taxi stopped in front of a barbecue restaurant.
After they got out, Chen Fan realized that the place didn't look luxurious at all—it was just an ordinary barbecue restaurant with plastic tables and chairs, a red sign, and the words "Old Liu's Barbecue" printed on the lightbox at the entrance.
There were over a dozen tables set up in front of the shop. Even though it was only around seven o'clock, more than half were already occupied. The scents of charcoal, cumin, and beer mixed together, filling the entire street.
The two found a table by the side and sat down. The plastic chair wobbled a bit when he sat on it, so Chen Fan adjusted his posture to steady it.
A waiter brought over a menu, and Chen Fan took it and handed it to Counselor Shen Na.
"Sister Na, you order."
Counselor Shen Na wasn't coy either; she took the menu, glanced at it for a few seconds, and quickly reeled off a list of items: "Fifty skewers of meat, thirty skewers of tendon, two chicken wings, one grilled fish, and a pitcher of ice-cold beer."
After ordering, she looked at Chen Fan: "That should be enough, right?"
Chen Fan smiled, picked up the menu, and ordered a few dozen more meat skewers and a few dozen more tendon skewers, along with some other meats and vegetables.
Counselor Shen Na looked at him: "Can you finish all that?"
"Don't worry, my appetite is pretty good."
Counselor Shen Na looked him up and down a few times and nodded: "That's true, looking at how thick your arms are, you should be able to eat quite a bit."
Upon hearing this, Chen Fan's mouth couldn't help but twitch.
What kind of description was that? What did having thick arms have to do with being able to eat?
But it did seem to make a lot of sense.
