98: Chapter 98 Mastering Advanced Mathematics

Having not driven for over ten days, Chen Fan found the feeling of speeding along quite exhilarating for a moment.

Unfortunately, this exhilaration only lasted for about twenty minutes before Chen Fan arrived home.

After returning home, he immediately took out the property deed.

After getting the property deed, he didn't linger and drove straight to the county town.

Because applying for off-campus housing required a signed parental consent form and copies of his parents' ID cards, Chen Fan had to make a trip back to the county town.

Originally, if it were just a matter of signing, he could have just done it himself; after all, he would be signing his parents' names, and who would be able to tell?

But since it also required ID copies, that was impossible. He couldn't just conjure up two ID copies out of thin air, and even if he could, he wouldn't be able to memorize the numbers on them.

Chen Fan stepped on the gas and drove toward the ring expressway.

Driving from Chang'an back to the county town took two hours via the expressway.

Four hours for the round trip, plus the time for photocopying and talking; five or six hours would be enough.

It was only a little past noon now, so returning by evening would be more than enough time.

Once on the expressway, he increased his speed to 120, and outside the window stretched the boundless Guanzhong Plain.

Chen Fan gripped the steering wheel with one hand, while resting the other on the car window; the wind squeezed through the gap, blowing his hair into a mess.

At this moment, Chen Fan remembered a movie scene he had once watched.

It was played by an actor named Zheng Kai; he said that sticking your hand out the window while driving gives you a special feeling.

Regarding this scene, Chen Fan could only say:

"Too boring."

He scoffed and silently stretched his palm out the car window.

...

Two hours later, the car drove into the county town.

It was the same familiar road, the same familiar residential compound gate.

Chen Fan parked the car in the underground garage, went upstairs, and knocked on the door.

Wang Mei opened the door.

She was wearing an apron, her hands still wet. Seeing Chen Fan, she was stunned for a moment: "Why are you back? Isn't there military training?"

"Military training is over, I came back for something." Chen Fan changed his shoes and went inside. "Where's Dad?"

"He's in the room watching TV." Wang Mei pursed her lips toward the inner room. "Have you eaten? If not, Mom will make you something now."

Chen Jianjun heard the commotion and came out from the inner room. Seeing Chen Fan, he was also stunned: "Why did you suddenly run back?"

"To take care of some business." Chen Fan said, "Dad, Mom, where are your ID cards? Let me use them."

The two of them didn't say a word and went back to the room to get their ID cards. Chen Jianguo's ID card was in the bedside table drawer, kept together with the household registration book and bank passbook, its edges worn thin.

Wang Mei's ID card was in the bag she carried with her.

After handing the ID cards to Chen Fan, Wang Mei still couldn't help but ask: "What do you need our ID cards for?"

Chen Fan briefly explained the reason he needed the ID cards—applying for off-campus housing required a parental consent form and copies of his parents' ID cards.

"Why did you suddenly decide to move off-campus? Are there conflicts with your roommates?"

"No, living in the dormitory is too inconvenient; living outside is more convenient."

Upon hearing Chen Fan's words, the two stopped asking.

Chen Fan took the ID cards and went straight to a print shop near the residential compound.

The shop was not big, and an old photocopier stood at the entrance, with a handwritten label "A4: 50 cents" stuck on its glass panel.

The owner was a middle-aged man in his fifties, reading a newspaper without even lifting his head: "Photocopying?"

"Yeah, two ID cards, both front and back."

The owner took the ID cards, lifted the photocopier lid, placed the ID cards on the glass panel, closed it, and pressed a button. The machine hummed for a while and spat out a sheet of paper. He looked at it, flipped it over, and printed another one.

"Anything else?"

"No, that's all."

Chen Fan paid, put away the ID cards, folded the copies, and put them into a document bag.

By the time all the materials were ready, it was already four in the afternoon.

Without lingering, he drove back to Chang'an.

...

Chen Fan crossed the main road and turned into the corridor of the administration building; his footsteps echoed in the empty hallway.

He took out his phone and called Counselor Shen Na.

The phone rang three times before it was answered.

"Hello, Chen Fan?" Counselor Shen Na's voice came from the other end, carrying a bit of office quietness.

"Sister Na, are you in the office? I've prepared the materials and am bringing them over now."

"Yes, come on over."

"Okay."

Chen Fan hung up the phone and went upstairs. The door to the office at the end of the corridor was ajar, letting out white light.

He knocked on the door and pushed it open to enter. Counselor Shen Na was sitting behind the desk, facing the computer screen, her fingers typing something on the keyboard.

Seeing Chen Fan enter, she stopped her movements and leaned back in her chair.

"Sister Na, I've got all the materials together." Chen Fan handed the materials in his hand to Counselor Shen Na.

Hearing this, Counselor Shen Na looked at him with a surprised expression: "So fast, do you have both the signed parental consent form and the ID card copies?"

"I have them all."

Chen Fan placed the document bag on the desk, unzipped it, and took the items out one by one: the property deed copy, the parental consent form, and the ID card copies.

Seeing Chen Fan's determined look, Counselor Shen Na took the materials Chen Fan handed over and began to look through them one by one.

The parental consent form had two names signed on it, with ID card copies attached, one male and one female, with the address in a county in Guanzhong.

The application form was handwritten, with neat handwriting.

The property deed copy had the name Chen Fan on it, and the address was in the Qujiang Vanke residential compound in Chang'an.

Counselor Shen Na glanced at the address and then at Chen Fan, her gaze carrying a hint of appraisal—Qujiang Vanke, the housing prices in that area were certainly not cheap.

The safety commitment form was signed and had a handprint on it. The red ink was a bit smudged, but the fingerprint was clearly discernible.

Counselor Shen Na gathered all the materials together, tapped them on the desk to align the edges, and clipped them into a blue folder. She closed the folder and looked up at Chen Fan: "Alright, the materials are fine. I will take them to the Student Affairs Office teacher for approval."

"About when will there be a result?" Chen Fan asked.

"Usually it takes two or three days; I'll notify you when there's a result." Counselor Shen Na leaned back in her chair, her hands folded on the desk. "If it's fast, it might come down tomorrow; if it's slow, it won't take more than a week, depending on how busy the Student Affairs Office is."

"Okay, thank you, Sister Na. I'll treat you to a meal when the time comes."

"Alright, quit that." Counselor Shen Na waved her hand with a smile. "Hurry up and go, don't delay me getting off work here."

"Alrighty."

...

It was past ten at night. Chen Fan lay on the bed, pillowing his head with his arms, stared at the ceiling for a few seconds, and then closed his eyes.

In his mind, the interface of the wealth store slowly emerged.

The item that refreshed today gave him a pleasant surprise.

[ Advanced Mathematics Mastery ]

Price: 200,000 wealth points.

He had originally been wondering how to master these university courses—calculus, linear algebra, probability theory, a pile of things stacked up there; just thinking about it made his head ache.

He hadn't expected this to refresh today.
