137: Chapter 137 Field Investigation

“Do you still think today’s training is bullying?” Oriental Chen asked.

Everyone remained silent.

“That’s why I said, this will be the norm for future battles. The situations they face in the future will only be worse than now,” Oriental Chen added.

“I must report this situation to the Commander as soon as possible,” Rong Po said.

“I’ve already informed him. If I’m not mistaken, your Zhanfeng Assault Team should have already arrived at the scene,” Oriental Chen said.

“Alright,” Rong Po said, feeling relieved.

...

Dongzhou Province, Guangchen City.

May 23, 2055, 12:30 PM.

20 fully armed Soldiers jumped from a helicopter and entered a state of alert.

Dongzhou Province was the southernmost inland province in Huaguo, and it had already become a human restricted zone as early as last year.

After all personnel had landed, the helicopter ascended.

“All clear!”

“Target at 11 o’clock, advance!”

All members of the team held their guns and crouched low, beginning to move.

They formed a circle, closely monitoring movements in all directions.

During the day, zombies would not move. But mutated species were different; they were not afraid of sunlight and were exceptionally powerful. So, they had to be careful.

Their destination for this trip was a residential building. The order stated that there was a large number of mutated cockroaches in this residential building.

And their task was merely to investigate the presence of mutated cockroaches. Unless absolutely necessary, they were not to enter.

15 minutes later, they arrived at the outside of the building.

They stopped and concealed themselves at the street corner. The team leader took out binoculars and observed carefully.

It was still a bit far, and the cockroaches were very small, so he saw nothing.

“Scatter the bait,” the captain ordered.

A Soldier took a glass bottle from his bag, filled with rice.

He threw it with all his might, sending the bottle crashing onto the ground below the building. The bottle shattered into pieces, and the rice grains scattered everywhere.

They waited for 20 minutes, but no cockroach appeared.

“Captain, did the sound of the bottle breaking scare all the cockroaches away?” a Soldier asked.

“Possibly. Everyone, don’t make any noise, we’ll continue to wait,” the captain said.

Another 20 minutes passed, still no movement.

“Captain, should I go out and take a look?”

“Go ahead! Be careful!”

“Yes!”

The Soldier crouched low, walked to the building entrance, looked around, and found nothing.

So he turned back to everyone, extended his hand, indicating that there was nothing.

But just then, everyone’s eyes widened, their throats tightened, wanting to shout but unable to.

“Get down!”

It was the captain who remained calm; he shouted loudly.

It turned out that right behind the Soldier, two enormous pincer claws had already extended from inside the building entrance.

The investigating Soldier was confused and about to ask when suddenly the pincer claws tightened, directly hooking the Soldier into the building.

With a cry of “Ah~”.

“Bang bang bang~” followed by a burst of gunfire.

It was dark inside the building entrance, and they couldn't see clearly; everyone didn't know what was happening inside.

“Captain, Huzhi is in danger right now, we need to go rescue him,” a nearby team member said.

“Stop making noise! We don’t know what the situation is inside. What if there’s danger and we all get stuck here?” the captain snapped.

“But…” Before the team member could continue.

A “Bang~” sound came from inside the building.

This was Xiaohu detonating a grenade.

As the explosion sounded, some shredded meat and thick liquid were splattered out.

“Xiaohu!” the team members exclaimed in unison.

Although the Combat Suit could prevent punctures, in the event of a bomb explosion, it could prevent the body from being injured by fragments. However, the instantaneous shockwave and high temperature of the explosion could cause harm to the human body. In severe cases, it could lead to internal organs being shattered.

After all, what was wrapped inside the Combat Suit was just an ordinary person.

“Captain, give the order! The monster should have been blown to death, and Xiaohu is protected by the Combat Suit, so he might be fine,” the team member urged.

“Send 10 people to check the entrance. Remember, do not go deep, safety first,” the captain said.

“Yes!”

10 assault team members quickly ran towards the building entrance.

They concealed themselves on both sides of the entrance and observed slowly.

After finding no movement, they began to tentatively enter.

At this moment, a rustling sound came from inside, like something dragging and crawling on the ground.

It was Xiaohu!

The team member investigating in front quickly waved, and another person went in. The two of them dragged Xiaohu out.

Only then did they see clearly that Xiaohu's outer clothing had been blown to shreds, exposing the black Combat Suit underneath.

His body was covered in viscous yellowish-brown liquid.

“Are you alright?” a team member asked.

“Quick… go…” Xiaohu said weakly.

“Retreat, retreat, retreat!” the team member shouted.

The 10 team members dragged Xiaohu and quickly retreated.

They hadn't run far when, from the building entrance and the windows upstairs, countless cockroaches swarmed out, chasing after them.

“Retreat! Retreat! Retreat! Quick retreat!” the captain shouted loudly upon seeing this scene.

“Call for the helicopter!” the captain ordered.

“Cover! Free fire!”

The cockroaches were very fast. Some were large, some were small. The large ones were 1 meter tall, at least two to three meters long. The small ones were twenty to thirty centimeters long.

The large cockroaches moved slower, while the small cockroaches were much swifter.
