66: Chapter 66: Searching for Relatives at the Base
"Do I know you?" Oriental Chen asked, bewildered.
"Hmph! Even if I don't know you, I can still deal with you!" the burly man said.
"Did I offend you?" Oriental Chen continued to ask calmly.
"You unlucky kid, still talking back! Where's your home? Come on, I'll take you back!" the burly man said.
"Well, did I run into a kind person when I went out?" Oriental Chen thought to himself, then said,
"Uncle, I don't have a home, it's just me."
"Just you? Then it's truly a miracle you've lived until now," the big man said.
"Oh? Why?" Oriental Chen pretended not to know.
"Because those like you who wander around outside have already fed the zombies," the big man replied.
"Is that so? Then maybe I'm just lucky! Uncle, if there's nothing else, I'll be going now." Oriental Chen didn't want to get entangled with him anymore and was about to leave after speaking.
"Stop right there!" the big man insisted.
"I say, Uncle, do you have something to say or not? My mom called me home for dinner, it's urgent!" Oriental Chen said impatiently.
"Didn't you just say you don't have a home?" the big man found a "loophole."
"Ah? This... I was just speaking metaphorically!" Oriental Chen had never seen such a person, forcing help upon him.
"Where is your home?" the big man asked.
"My home is in Meilin," Oriental Chen made up.
"Meilin? Meilin of Mos?" the big man was suspicious.
"Yes, why?" Oriental Chen said.
"You kid, there's not a single truth in your mouth! Come on, follow me!" The big man got angry and directly grabbed Oriental Chen's arm and walked away.
"Hey, hey, hey! Uncle, let's talk this out nicely! What are you doing?!" Oriental Chen shouted as he walked.
He was helpless; was he going to be dragged back as soon as he came out?
But this person didn't seem like a bad guy, so there was no need to fight him.
In less than two minutes, the uncle pulled him into a garage.
"Oh! Uncle, is this your home?" Oriental Chen looked around casually.
"Dad, this is...?" a Sister walked over and asked.
"Uh..., there are people here." Oriental Chen was a little embarrassed and quickly backed out.
"I met this child on the road, so I brought him back," the big man explained.
"Uncle, you forcibly brought me back, you should make that clear," Oriental Chen corrected.
The uncle ignored him and said to his daughter,
"Go get him something to eat," the big man said.
"Oh." The Sister turned and went into the inner room.
"Uncle, did you open up this garage?" Oriental Chen asked, looking at the layout.
"Mm!" the big man replied.
"I say, Uncle, why are you still in the city? Everyone else has already left," Oriental Chen asked.
Since he was here, he wasn't in a hurry to leave. After all, he still had plenty of time. He was in a hurry to come out just to wander around.
"I'm too lazy to move," the uncle replied perfunctorily.
"Here, something for you to eat." The Sister took out a box of biscuits, a sausage, and a bottle of drink.
In this day and age, being able to produce these items was considered quite "generous."
"Actually, I'm not that hungry." Oriental Chen unceremoniously took the drink, twisted open the cap, and guzzled it down.
Oriental Chen also sighed inwardly, thinking that generally, such kind people wouldn't survive one episode in the apocalypse.
"What's your name?" the Sister asked.
"Oriental Chen."
"My name is Dai Litong, you can call me Tongtong."
"Oh, hello, Tongtong. Have you always lived here?" Oriental Chen asked.
"No, we just moved here a while ago; it's safer here," Dai Litong explained.
"Then have you ever considered that a Settlement might be even safer?" Oriental Chen asked.
"We can't leave," Dai Litong said.
"Can't leave? Why?" Oriental Chen didn't understand.
"We're looking for a base," Dai Litong explained.
"What the heck?!" Oriental Chen bristled. Were they looking for his base?
"Why are you so nervous?" Dai Litong asked.
"I'm not nervous, just surprised. What are you looking for a base for?" Oriental Chen asked.
"My brother is in the base," Dai Litong replied.
"Holy cow! Is it that fantastical?" Oriental Chen was confused. Isn't finding someone just a phone call away? Why do they need to look here?
"But there's no one named Dai in my own base."
He thought for a moment and couldn't recall anyone named Dai, so he asked,
"What's your brother's name?"
"His name is Ding Yuwen," Dai Litong replied.
"What the heck?! Your brother is Ding Yuwen?!" Oriental Chen exclaimed.
"Ah? You know him?" Dai Litong's eyes lit up.
The big man, who had been sitting with his head bowed, also stood up and stared intently at him.
"Ding Yuwen, of course, I know him! He's a doctor, right?" Oriental Chen said.
"Ah, yes, yes, yes! Do you know where he is?" Dai Litong asked excitedly.
Ding Yuwen was one of the earliest doctors to arrive at the base and had stayed there ever since. Now he understood why he hadn't left with Director Xue back then; it turned out he was waiting for someone.
"But why is your surname Dai and his surname Ding?" Oriental Chen asked, not rushing to answer her question.
"Because my brother is actually the child of my dad's comrade-in-arms," Dai Litong explained.
