153: Chapter 153 No. 3's Request
“Not exactly. The green potion is still here; you still have a choice,” Oriental Chen said.
“I’ll speak only after I’ve been injected,” Number Three Holy Envoy said, not bothering to wonder why Number 1 hadn’t received the potion; his own situation was more pressing.
“Alright!” Oriental Chen handed the potion to a nearby Soldier.
The Soldier took the potion and immediately injected it.
Ten minutes later…
“Oh…” Number Three Holy Envoy let out a comfortable sigh.
“This medicine is truly wonderful! I don’t know how long it’s been since I felt this comfortable. But unfortunately, it’s too late,” Number Three Holy Envoy said.
“Can you speak now?” Oriental Chen asked.
“Ask away!” Number Three Holy Envoy nodded.
“Which Settlement are you from?” Oriental Chen asked.
“Huai Ling Settlement,” Number 3 replied.
“Huai Ling Settlement?” Oriental Chen was startled; Qu Zhengping was also in Huai Ling Settlement.
“Yes,” Number 3 ignored Oriental Chen’s surprise; he didn’t care and wasn’t curious enough to ask.
“What was your status there?” Oriental Chen asked.
“No particular status. On the surface, I was just a small-time character in the Settlement,” Number 3 replied.
“How did you and those two come to know each other?” Oriental Chen asked.
“Our superiors are the same Saint Son.”
“Where is your Saint Son?” Oriental Chen asked.
“I’m not sure. Lower-ranking members of the Sect know very little about their superiors.”
“Then how do you usually communicate?”
“By telegraph.”
This was the same answer as Number 1.
“Do other Saint Sons also use telegraphs to contact their subordinates?”
“I don’t know, but if I had to guess, probably.”
“Are there any other Saint Envoys in your Huai Ling Settlement?”
“I don’t know. Maybe there are, maybe there aren’t, who can say for sure.”
“Do you have anything else to add?” Oriental Chen had nothing more to ask.
“I want to ask, can I still leave here alive?” Number 3 asked.
“I’m afraid not,” Oriental Chen shook his head.
“Then can I ask you for a favor?” Number Three Holy Envoy asked.
“I’m afraid you don’t have the opportunity to negotiate terms,” Oriental Chen refused.
“I can trade a secret for it,” Number Three Holy Envoy said after a moment of hesitation.
“Tell me,” Oriental Chen was somewhat interested.
“Let’s hear the terms first. If you can fulfill them, I’ll tell you the secret.”
“Alright,” Oriental Chen agreed.
“I have a daughter in Huai Ling Settlement. If I die, she might not survive either. So I want to ask you to adopt her,” Number 3 stated his condition.
“How old is she?” Oriental Chen asked.
“Eight years old.”
“I can help you find a family for her,” Oriental Chen said.
“No, you must promise me that you will adopt her yourself,” Number Three Holy Envoy refused.
If it were anything else, Oriental Chen could have refused. But upon hearing it concerned a child, he hesitated.
“Why must I be the one to adopt her?” Oriental Chen asked.
“I know who you are. Although I don’t know your name, I know you are very mysterious and powerful. Perhaps only by following you can she live safely and peacefully,” Number Three Holy Envoy said.
“You know me?” Oriental Chen was surprised.
In his impression, the Red Coat Sect shouldn’t know of his existence.
“That’s right!” Number 3 replied.
“Then tell me, who am I?” Oriental Chen wasn’t in a hurry and composed himself.
“I know you possess a secret base, and that the Combat Suit and antigen are all produced by you,” Number 3 said concisely.
Though simple, the words carried a lot of information.
Oriental Chen was first shocked, then calmed down.
So far, his base had not been attacked by the Red Coat Sect. Even the Meilin Settlement had not suffered any additional attacks. This indicated that not many people should know about his affairs.
Moreover, terms like Combat Suit and antigen—he wouldn't know them unless he had contact with relevant personnel.
“Where did you hear these things?” Oriental Chen asked.
“There’s a person, he’s very capable, and he once saved me. I think he should be your subordinate,” Number Three Holy Envoy said.
Upon hearing this, Oriental Chen understood what was going on; this person should be Qu Zhengping.
“Are you talking about Lark?” Oriental Chen probed.
But saying this carried a risk; if his guess was incorrect, it could put Qu Zhengping in danger.
“It seems my guess was correct; you are the boss behind him!” Number 3 opened his eyes, confirming his judgment.
It was indeed Qu Zhengping who told him!
The term “boss” explained everything.
Aside from the more than 40 infiltrators sent out, few people called him that.
But logically, it shouldn’t be.
Qu Zhengping couldn’t be so confused about major right and wrong.
He had no reason to expose himself to a member of the Red Coat Sect.
Oriental Chen contacted Qu Zhengping through his Digital Eye.
After the signal connected, Oriental Chen activated screen synchronization.
“Why would Lark tell you about this?” Oriental Chen asked.
“Last year, when he first arrived at Huai Ling Settlement, he lived with us. He brought a dog, a very formidable dog,” Number 3 spoke as if stating facts, as if reminiscing.
“Life was too hard back then, in the dead of winter, freezing cold. We adults were fine; we could grit our teeth and get through the night. But the children couldn't endure it. Yaya hadn’t had a proper meal for several months and was in her growth spurt, already skin and bones. Just when we were about to give up, Lark arrived. He gave us a lot of food, and that’s how Yaya survived that winter.”
