64: Chapter 64: The Wrong Enemy

The next morning, some uninvited guests arrived at Meilin Settlement, led by Mei Wenhua of Suiyang Anbu.

"Boss Mei, please have a seat!" Mayor Gong said.

"Thank you, Mayor Gong." Mei Wenhua sat down gracefully.

"May I ask what brings Boss Mei to me so suddenly?" Mayor Gong asked.

Last night, the Mayor of Mozhou City had called him via satellite phone in advance and briefly introduced Mei Wenhua's situation. However, his words implied a hint of displeasure. Was a big businessman from Mos coming to Meilin to be a generous benefactor? Why didn't he stop him if he didn't want him to come?

Mayor Gong was also puzzled. In these times, all sorts of strange things happened. How did this Meilin become such a popular place?

If it were in the past, he would definitely be happy. But now it was different, he had Niu Xingwang. If another Mei Wenhua came, it might backfire.

After all, Meilin was within the Mos territory. As a mayor, strictly speaking, he was still under someone else's roof, so he had to give face.

"Nothing much, I just thought Mayor Gong was new here and came to see if there was anything Mei could do to help," Mei Wenhua said with a smile.

"Boss Mei is too kind, everything is fine, so there's no need for Boss Mei to worry," Mayor Gong directly refused before Mei Wenhua could speak.

Mei Wenhua was stunned.

Was he that arrogant? Refusing benefits that were offered?

However, in an instant, he adjusted his attitude and said with a smile:

"That's good, that's good. Everyone says Mayor Gong is an excellent administrator, and it's certainly true. You might not know, but I am actually a native of Meilin. This visit, besides being a courtesy call, is also to revisit my homeland and ease my homesickness. I wonder if Mayor Gong would allow me to stay in Meilin for a couple of days?"

What the heck homesickness!

With just a few steps, you could come if you wanted to? Why would you need to be homesick?

If you want to stay, then stay, just don't cause trouble. He said:

"Oh, so that's how it is. No problem, staying a few more days is fine too. But Boss Mei, I must warn you in advance, don't flaunt your wealth, and be sure to pay attention to safety. Although the public order in Meilin is quite good, there's no guarantee that a few troublemakers won't appear."

"Then I thank Mayor Gong!"

After Mei Wenhua thanked him and left, Mayor Gong said to Secretary Liu:

"Arrange for a few people to keep an eye on them and see what they are really doing in Meilin."

"Okay," Secretary Liu replied.

The conditions in Meilin were actually much better than in Suiyang. Along the narrow, crisscrossing streets, there were ancient-style buildings, which used to be shops, but were now all used as residences. Everyone squeezed together, and accommodating hundreds of thousands of people was not an issue. So, there were almost no temporary tents used.

For some unknown reason, Meilin was given to the outsiders who had relocated from Binjiang.

Mei Wenhua walked along the streets of Meilin Ancient Town, accompanied by his followers, thinking as he walked.

"Boss Mei, something's not right!" the Young woman whispered beside him.

"What is it?" Mei Wenhua asked.

"Boss Mei, look at those few people over there, they're carrying... guns!" the Young woman reminded him.

Mei Wenhua seemed to realize something and quickly looked up.

That's right, they were... guns!

He clenched his fists tightly, his teeth grinding audibly.

"So it's them!"

Mei Wenhua finally knew who had killed his Naner.

He had wondered, he hadn't heard of any military operations in Mos, and he hadn't dared to inquire. Now he finally understood, it was these bumpkins!

Actually, this was a misunderstanding, but Mei Wenhua wouldn't think that way.

"Qingyi, go and inquire about them, find out whose people they are," Mei Wenhua asked.

The Young woman, Rong Qingyi, responded and left.

5 minutes later.

"Boss Mei, I've found out, they are from the Huatong Chamber of Commerce," Rong Qingyi replied.

"Huatong Chamber of Commerce?" Mei Wenhua had never heard of it.

"This Huatong Chamber of Commerce was just established not long ago. The boss used to be in the real estate business in Binjiang, his surname is Niu, and his name is Niu Xingwang."

"Niu Xingwang! Good, I remember him. Let's go back." Mei Wenhua turned and walked back.

At the entrance of Meilin Settlement.

"Boss Mei, why are you suddenly leaving?"

Secretary Liu had just returned to his office when he heard that Mei Wenhua was preparing to leave, so he rushed back over.

"Oh, Secretary Liu. Something suddenly came up that I need to go back and deal with. I'll come again when I have the chance." Mei Wenhua forced a smile.

"Ah? Is that so. Alright then. Boss Mei, please be careful." Secretary Liu did not try to persuade him to stay.

Three SUVs sped away.

Three days later.

"Boss Niu, long time no see!"

Niu Xingwang was busy with the Mercenary Guild when he suddenly heard someone call him from behind. He quickly turned around.

"Old Zhang!" Niu Xingwang shouted excitedly, running over to give him a big bear hug.

"Why did you come? Isn't it Sea King?" Niu Xingwang asked.

Sea King was Ling Zhenhai. Everyone had to use their code names in public and not their real names.

As soon as Niu Xingwang opened his mouth, "Old Zhang" slipped out, but since he had already said it, it was hard to change it.

"Let's find a quiet place to talk," Brother Zhang said.

"Okay, let's go." Niu Xingwang led Brother Zhang to an office.
