354: Chapter 354 What do you want
“Is that so?” Li Xu still felt something was off, but he couldn't recall what it was.
Que Xin subtly winked at Wu Zhan, telling him not to say too much.
Wu Zhan nodded slightly, indicating he understood.
“Group Leader Li, I came today because I have an urgent matter to discuss with you,” Que Xin quickly changed the subject.
“Oh? What is it, Deputy Team Leader Zhao?” Li Xu asked.
“It’s not convenient to talk here,” Que Xin looked around.
“Follow me,” Li Xu nodded and led them into his office.
“You can speak now,” Li Xu said after closing the door.
“It’s like this, Group Leader Li, you know about Mayor Lun’s illness, right?” Que Xin asked.
“I know.”
“Then do you know what illness he has?”
“I know. Deputy Team Leader Zhao, if you have something to say, just say it directly.” Li Xu was a bit displeased seeing Que Xin beating around the bush.
Que Xin didn’t understand the situation in Pingxi City, asking these questions to lay the groundwork for what was to come.
“Group Leader Li, this morning, Lun Jianian died!” Que Xin leaned in and whispered to him.
“What?!” Li Xu was shocked.
Wu Zhan, who was beside him, was also stunned.
“What is this for?” Wu Zhan didn’t understand.
Li Xu was also a shrewd person; Que Xin calling Mayor Lun by his given name made him roughly guess the purpose of his visit today.
He looked at Wu Zhan with sharp eyes.
Wu Zhan hadn’t figured out the situation yet, and being looked at like that by Li Xu, cold sweat instantly broke out.
Que Xin patted Wu Zhan, signaling him not to be afraid, and explained, “Group Leader Li, Wu Zhan is one of us, otherwise I wouldn’t have brought him along.”
After hearing his explanation, Li Xu lowered his guard.
This was the reason Que Xin asked Lun Jianian for someone.
If he had come alone, Li Xu wouldn’t have believed a word. With Wu Zhan, the secretary, present, the effect was different.
“Lun Jianian died?” Li Xu asked Wu Zhan.
“Yes… yes, he did.” Wu Zhan was a bit nervous. Que Xin had instructed him on the way to cooperate, so Wu Zhan could only admit it now.
“When did it happen?” Li Xu continued to ask.
“This… this morning.” Wu Zhan’s hands were clenched tightly.
“What time?” Li Xu continued to probe.
“Ten… after ten o’clock.” Wu Zhan had no choice but to make up a time. After answering, he looked at Que Xin, worried he had said something wrong.
“What’s the situation at Nangou Settlement now?” Li Xu then asked.
“Group Leader Li, the news hasn’t spread yet; only a very few people know,” Que Xin answered on his behalf.
Wu Zhan, seeing Que Xin help him out, quickly nodded.
Li Xu looked at Que Xin suspiciously.
“Then why did you come to me?” Li Xu asked.
“Group Leader Li, let’s be frank. Lun Jianian plans to pass his position to his son; do you think that’s appropriate?” Que Xin asked.
Li Xu did not answer.
“What’s going on? Has Lun Jianian really become an emperor? Is he going to implement hereditary succession? That useless son of his hasn’t even fully matured; why should he manage three Settlements?” Que Xin was clearly stating his position.
Li Xu still didn’t speak.
“Group Leader Li, I know you definitely won’t listen to that little kid either. So, I came to you today because I want you to help me secure the position of Team Leader of Nangou Settlement. Once it’s done, Nangou Settlement and Xihu will be on equal footing. From then on, we’ll each manage our own, watching out for each other. What do you think?” Que Xin stated his objective.
Li Xu looked at Wu Zhan’s expression but still didn’t speak.
“Group Leader Li, say something!” Que Xin raised his voice, urging him, appearing somewhat agitated.
“Why do you think I would help you?” Li Xu asked.
“Group Leader Li, there are no deals that can’t be made, only prices that can’t be agreed upon, wouldn’t you say?” Que Xin stared at him intently as he asked.
Li Xu smiled slightly, indicating agreement.
“Group Leader Li, just tell me, how can you help me?” Que Xin, seeing Li Xu was interested, pushed the conversation further.
“Deputy Team Leader Zhao, that depends on your offer.” Li Xu didn’t state his conditions.
Of course, for something like this, he definitely had to first hear what price range Que Xin had in mind.
“How about this, after it’s done, the title of Pingxi City Mayor will be yours,” Que Xin said.
Li Xu did not reply.
Clearly, this condition was not enough.
“Then Group Leader Li, what do you want?” Que Xin asked.
“These empty titles aren’t very meaningful; something more substantial would be better,” Li Xu said.
“Tell me,” Que Xin seemed ready to make a painful sacrifice.
“I want cars, gasoline, and food,” Li Xu stated what he wanted.
“There probably isn’t much gasoline left in the Settlement,” Que Xin looked a bit troubled.
“Since there isn’t much left, just give it all to me. How about it?”
“Fine! I’ll agree to that!” Que Xin slapped his thigh hard and gritted his teeth, agreeing.
“Excellent! Since there’s no gasoline left, I guess your cars are useless anyway. Give them all to me too,” Li Xu said.
“Group Leader Li, leave me a few cars, I can buy gasoline from you!” Que Xin definitely couldn’t agree to everything, as that would make people think he had ulterior motives.
