34: Chapter 34: Saving Boss Niu

“Look! Someone’s coming!” a Soldier guarding the entrance said.

“Oh my, really. It’s been a long time since anyone came here, hasn’t it? Could they be here to deliver supplies?” another Soldier asked in surprise.

“Let’s go take a look,” the first Soldier replied.

The two walked to the middle of the road and stopped. He extended his hand, making a gesture to stop the vehicle.

Twelve identical SUVs, one after another, gradually came to a halt.

“Hello! Please show your identification,” the first Soldier said.

“What identification?” Oriental Chen, sitting in the passenger seat of the first car, asked.

The two Soldiers were stunned. They didn’t know what identification? Where did these people come from?

“Where are you from?” the first Soldier asked.

“Binjiang City,” Oriental Chen replied.

The two quickly picked up their guns and released the safety.

“Everyone, raise your hands and get out of the car immediately!” the first Soldier commanded.

Brother Zhang, sitting in the driver’s seat, glanced at Oriental Chen, waiting for his instructions.

Oriental Chen shook his head, raised one hand, and with the other hand, reached over and opened the car door.

After Oriental Chen got out of the car, the others followed suit, one after another.

Over 40 people, all wearing unified camouflage.

Everyone looked rosy-cheeked and full of vigor.

This point was very suspicious.

“Report, Captain, dozens of suspicious individuals have appeared at the entrance, requesting backup,” the second Soldier said into the walkie-talkie.

“Received!” came the reply.

“Comrade, what’s wrong? Is there a problem?” Oriental Chen asked casually.

“Of course there’s a problem. Binjiang City has been deserted for months, how could you possibly be from the city?” the first Soldier replied.

“That’s not necessarily true. How about this, I know Director Xue, Xue Miaoshuang, the doctor at your base. If you call him out, he can confirm our identities,” Oriental Chen said.

“Our Captain will be here shortly, please wait a moment,” the first Soldier did not heed his words.

Two minutes later, dozens of people quickly came from the base, all armed with guns.

“Captain, it’s them,” the second Soldier went up and said.

The Captain nodded and walked over.

“Where are you from?” the Captain asked.

“We just said, we’re from the city,” Oriental Chen patiently repeated.

“What are you doing here?” the Captain continued to ask.

“Looking for someone,” Oriental Chen replied.

“Oh? Who are you looking for?” the Captain asked with interest.

“Niu Xingwang, Boss Niu of Dingxin Real Estate,” Oriental Chen replied.

He knew Niu Xingwang.

In fact, most of the infrastructure projects at Qinghe Settlement were done by Boss Niu’s company.

However, the current Boss Niu was not what he used to be, just a nobody.

“What do you want with him?” the Captain asked mockingly.

“To collect a debt!” Oriental Chen began to spout nonsense.

A leopard cannot change its spots.

Oh, to collect a debt? The Captain laughed.

Who still collected debts these days? Money was useless, so what debt was there to collect?

“What debt are you collecting?” the Captain continued to ask.

“I say, Captain, is collecting debt against the law?” Oriental Chen didn’t want to answer his question so easily.

He could tell that the Captain was deliberately making things difficult for him.

The Captain was stunned, then smiled and said:

“It’s not against the law, but for safety reasons, we can’t let you in.”

“Alright! We won’t go in. Then, Captain, please send someone to call him out, and we’ll talk outside,” Oriental Chen said with a smile.

“That won’t do either!” the Captain said.

“And why not?” Oriental Chen asked with a mocking smile.

“No reason. Our Soldiers’ mission is to maintain order, not to run errands for people,” the Captain said, picking his teeth.

“How about this?” Oriental Chen took out a pack of white sugar from his pocket and weighed it in his hand.

The Captain’s eyes immediately lit up.

White sugar was a scarce commodity now; such a large pack could even be exchanged for a wife.

The Captain walked over, took the white sugar, put it in his pocket, and immediately changed his attitude.

“Little brother, let me tell you honestly. The current Boss Niu is not the Boss Niu he used to be. You’re probably not going to get that debt back from him,” the Captain whispered.

“Thank you for the reminder, Captain. However, I have my ways,” Oriental Chen showed a cunning expression.

“Alright, I’ll have someone call him for you,” the Captain no longer said anything more and readily agreed.

“Xiao Hu, come here,” the Captain waved and called the first Soldier over.

“Captain, you called me,” Xiao Hu ran over and said with a smile.

“Go inside and bring Boss Niu out,” the Captain ordered.

“Yes!” Xiao Hu replied at attention, then turned and ran back.

Twenty minutes later.

Xiao Hu came out with Boss Niu.

From a distance, Boss Niu looked disheveled, like a beggar.

If it weren’t for the suit he was wearing, which still faintly showed its former glory, Oriental Chen might have found it difficult to recognize him.

Boss Niu walked closer and saw that the person standing next to the Captain was Oriental Chen, and his steps immediately halted.

Seeing Niu Xingwang standing there motionless, the Captain thought he was scared by seeing his creditor, so he shouted:

“Boss Niu, your old friend is here to see you, hurry up and come over!”

Niu Xingwang came back to his senses, ran over in small steps, his eyes welling up with tears.

“Mr. Dongfang…” Niu Xingwang was about to speak when Oriental Chen interrupted him.

“Boss Niu, why are you dressed like this? Let me tell you, don’t cry poor in front of me! It’s only right to repay debts!” Oriental Chen said loudly.

Boss Niu was bewildered. What was going on?

The Captain couldn’t help but burst out laughing when he heard Oriental Chen say that.

Boss Niu’s current appearance was indeed “crying poor.”

“I’ll just ask you, can you pay back the money today?” Oriental Chen asked.

“I, I, I…” Niu Xingwang didn’t know what to say.

“Alright, alright! I don’t want to hear your explanation. Money is useless now, just leave your life behind today!” Oriental Chen said, then grabbed Niu Xingwang by the collar, preparing to take him to the car.

“Hey, hey, hey! Little brother, take it easy! This won’t do, someone might die,” the Captain quickly stopped him.

“Heh heh, Captain. What kind of world is this now? What’s one or two deaths? But, Captain, don’t worry, I definitely won’t cause you any trouble. I’ll take him away and deal with him in a secluded place later,” Oriental Chen replied with a smile.

The Captain was stunned.

Uh, this, this, this…

Should he agree?

Oriental Chen’s words completely flustered the Captain.

They had already received news that the Settlement was about to move north. They wouldn’t be staying in this place for many more days.

Given this situation, losing a few people shouldn’t be a big deal, right?

But he just felt like something was off?

While the Captain was in a daze, Oriental Chen’s group had already all gotten into their cars.

Rolling down the car window, Oriental Chen shouted:

“Captain, there’s one more thing I need to tell you.”

The Captain walked to the front of the car.

“What is it?”

Oriental Chen took out another large bag of candy from the car, quietly slipped it to the Captain, and said with a smile:

“Nothing, just a treat for the Soldiers!”

The Captain beamed with joy; the little brother was so generous!

The convoy turned around and drove away.

The Captain put away the candy and stood there watching Oriental Chen and his group leave.

“Captain, they’ve gone far,” Xiao Hu ran over and whispered.

The Captain turned his head and glared at him, saying impatiently:

“You talk too much!”

“Heh heh, Captain. I have a question,” Xiao Hu asked.

“Oh? Speak,” the Captain replied.

“Captain, you said there’s no one left in the city, so how did they survive?” Xiao Hu asked.

“Damn it! I’ve been tricked!”

The Captain suddenly realized, slapping his thigh.

But the cars had already driven far away…
