223: Chapter 223 The proposal to patrol the Yangtze River was passed

“Today’s council meeting will primarily focus on Councilman Yan’s proposal regarding the patrol of the Yangtze River frontline. He will provide everyone with the specific details of this matter,” the Speaker said.

“Fellow council members, four days ago, Mayor Xu of Jingmen City, Hanzhong Province, reported a large number of mutated Antss appearing at the Changjing Shelter, five kilometers south of the Yangtze River in Jingmen City. These Antss are enormous and extremely aggressive. Wherever they go, all vegetation is devoured. I sent people to the site to take some photos; please take a look,” Yan Zhengping said, standing up and walking to the large screen.

The large screen began to display slides, which were a mix of long-range and close-up photos of Odontomachus inermis ants.

All the council members were very shocked after seeing the photos.

“The day before yesterday, these Antss attempted to cross the Yangtze River and extend into the northern bank. Fortunately, we intercepted them on the northern bank in advance, and their attempt to cross the river was unsuccessful.”

At this, everyone breathed a sigh of relief.

It was naturally good that they had not crossed the Yangtze River.

“But everyone, consider this: if there’s one group, there will be two, or three. I don’t believe these Antss are an isolated case. Please look at this again.” Yan Zhengping switched the slide.

“These are mutated cockroaches. Also two days ago, in Yujing City of the Southeast Military Region, a large number of mutated cockroaches attempted to cross the Yujing Yangtze River Bridge. Fortunately, the patrolling Soldiers discovered them in time, otherwise the consequences would have been unimaginable.”

“From these two defensive battles, I have drawn several conclusions:”

“First: The area south of the Yangtze River, with its warm and humid climate, is very suitable for insect breeding. Currently, multiple different types of mutated animals may have already emerged.”

“Second: These animals are characterized by rapid reproduction and living in groups.”

“Third: These animals are not afraid of sunlight and can be active 24 hours a day.”

“Fellow council members, the Yangtze River frontline will be a natural barrier to block these mutated animals. Once they break through this barrier, the northern regions will no longer be safe.”

“Therefore, I propose long-term patrols of the Yangtze River frontline to protect the lives and property of the Citizens.” Yan Zhengping finished stating his views.

“Everyone understands the situation. Now, please express your opinions,” the Speaker said.

“I agree. Once these insects cross the Yangtze River, we will have no natural defenses. This means no place will be safe. This will cause incalculable losses to all Settlements, and the consequences will be extremely severe,” said Director Hu Qingying, Director of the Health Department.

“I disagree. It was decided long ago that the safety of each Settlement is their own responsibility, and the Council will no longer interfere. If that’s the case, why should we concern ourselves with these matters now?” said Chen Guanxuan, Director of the Finance Department.

“I believe you are changing the subject. The reason for supporting Settlement autonomy is because the Council has limited energy and cannot guarantee the safety of every Settlement. At the same time, delegating power helps unleash the subjective initiative of each Settlement, which is conducive to improving their survival rate. But it does not mean that our decision is shirking responsibility, or even that we are completely indifferent to the safety of the Citizens. These are two completely different concepts. I agree to patrol the Yangtze River to maintain the safety and stability of the northern regions to the greatest extent possible,” said Wu Shengrong, Director of the Land Administration Department.

“I agree.”

“I agree.”

“Alright, let’s proceed with the vote.”

Finally, the Council passed Yan Zhengping’s proposal to patrol the Yangtze River frontline with 16 votes in favor.

After the proposal passed, the four Military Regions’ gasoline and ammunition could receive support from the Military Political Department. The most troublesome problem for everyone was finally solved.

From this day on, the Yangtze River frontline entered a normalized patrol phase.

Inside a secluded courtyard in the Capital City.

“How can we say we have no clothes? We share our robes with you.”

“May people not know, and may the years be peaceful and good.”

“Hello, I am Poseidon.”

“Hello, I am Dai Zheng. By the Commander’s order, I have brought you some personnel and equipment; they are all here,” Dai Zheng said.

“Okay! Thank you!” Ling Zhenhai said.

“You’re welcome. For safety’s sake, I will leave a transport plane on the outskirts of the Capital City. You can use it anytime if needed,” Dai Zheng said.

“Okay!” Ling Zhenhai responded.

He had already read the mission email; it was of great importance, and no amount of caution was too much.

“This place has been converted into a safe house, absolutely secure inside. If there is danger, you can come here to take shelter,” Dai Zheng continued to explain.

“Understood!” Ling Zhenhai continued to nod.

“Alright, the handover is complete, I’ll take my leave now. I wish you a successful mission!” Dai Zheng extended his hand.

“Thank you!” Ling Zhenhai also extended his hand, and the two clasped hands tightly.

Seven days later.

July 27, 2055, night.

Capital City, a certain abandoned villa.

“Who’s there?”

“Chirp chirp chirp~”

“Ah ah ah~”

“Bang~” The door of a room was kicked open.

Seven or eight people in Combat Suits rushed into the room.

At the same time, more than a dozen people stood guard outside.

“How is it?”

“Still breathing, the person is unconscious.”

“That’s good, take him away!”

“Go!”

One person carried the unconscious person lying on the bed in the room, while the others followed behind, covering their rapid departure.

To avoid leaving any clues, the bodies outside the house were also transported away.
