74: Chapter 74: Mutants Found

“Oh, hello, hello. May I ask what brings you gentlemen to Meilin?” Mayor Gong was a little nervous.

“It’s like this, we need Mayor Gong’s help to coordinate and gather all asymptomatic infected individuals in the Settlement. We need to take them back to the Capital City,” the person said.

“But didn’t the Security Department already take them away?” Mayor Gong asked.

“Taken away? When?” The person asked, puzzled.

“It was not long after the virus first broke out, when we were still in Binjiang. Our city here was the first city to be hit by the virus, so several groups of people came from above, including those from the Emergency Response Department, the Health Department, the Security Department, and the Southeast Military Region. I don't know where they are now,” Mayor Gong recalled.

“Then have you found any new asymptomatic infected individuals recently?” The person asked with a frown.

“I don’t think so,” Mayor Gong pondered for a moment, then shook his head.

The people from the Military Political Department said nothing more and turned to leave. They were ordered to conscript all asymptomatic infected individuals nationwide and screen for potential Mutants among them. Other matters were none of their concern, and they did not want to get involved. As for where the people were taken, they would not inquire.

“What is that?” As they were leaving, they saw many people in the distance constructing an iron tower.

Another person looked through the car window and also shook his head.

“Let’s go, let’s go take a look,” the leader said.

The driver turned the steering wheel and drove towards the signal tower.

“Who are you looking for?” Shen Wengang, who was helping nearby, saw several people get out of the car and walk over, and asked.

“You actually have guns?” The leader did not answer his question, but instead asked.

“We have gun permits, so of course we can carry guns. Who are you looking for?” Shen Wengang explained briefly, seeing that they were wearing military uniforms.

“Interesting!” The leader thought for a moment and understood. The gun permits were probably issued by the Settlement itself. However, during special times, it was understandable. So, he no longer pressed the issue of the guns, pointing to the signal tower in the distance and continuing to ask.

“What exactly do you want?” Shen Wengang was a little annoyed that the other party completely ignored his question.

“Answer what you’re asked, why so many questions?” Another officer beside him snapped.

“You! If there’s nothing, please leave,” Shen Wengang didn't want to offend them, so he suppressed his anger and said.

“You’re asking for it!” With that, the officer threw a punch.

Shen Wengang stood still, raising his hand to grasp the incoming fist as if with no effort at all.

The officer frowned, trying hard to pull his fist back, but he couldn't.

The leading officer noticed the anomaly and looked over curiously.

A few seconds later, Shen Wengang released his hand. The officer whose hand had been gripped suddenly lost his balance and fell backward, being supported by another person.

The officer wanted to rush forward again, but the leading officer raised his hand to stop him.

“What’s your name?” The leading officer asked.

“Why should I tell you? Do you have something to say or not? If not, leave quickly!” Shen Wengang replied impatiently.

These people were so arrogant, he didn't want to give them a good face.

“Let me introduce myself, my name is Duan Bing, head of Section Two of the Security Department under the Military Political Department.” Duan Bing extended his hand, wanting to shake hands with Shen Wengang.

“Tiangang,” Shen Wengang said, giving some face since the other party had become polite.

After all, the other party was wearing a military uniform, and it was best not to provoke them if possible.

“Tiangang? Not your real name, is it?” Duan Bing smiled.

“My name is Tiangang,” Shen Wengang said.

Duan Bing did not continue to dwell on the topic, but instead asked:

“Are you a Mutant?”

“You know about Mutants?” Shen Wengang was surprised.

Duan Bing was also very surprised, not expecting this guy named Tiangang to also know about Mutants. It was important to know that this name was given by their secret experimental team itself. It seemed that many people outside knew about Mutants.

“That’s right, we are also here for this matter. I wonder if Brother Tiangang is interested in coming back to the Military Political Department with us?” Duan Bing decisively extended an invitation.

This was a Mutant that came for free, so why not take him.

“Not interested,” Shen Wengang refused without even thinking.

“Don’t go too far!” The officer beside him, still angry, snapped.

Duan Bing patted the shoulder of the officer beside him, signaling him not to be impulsive.

“Brother Tiangang, we mean no harm. We came to Meilin this time under the Speaker’s orders to find Mutants. With your excellent skills, Brother, you should put them to good use and serve the country,” Duan Bing said earnestly.

“Brother, who are they?” Luo’er saw Shen Wengang talking to several people, and it seemed like they had even gotten into a physical altercation, so she walked over and asked.

“I don’t know them,” Shen Wengang replied, then looked at the few people and continued:

“I don’t care what you’re here for. I’m also not interested in going with you, please leave.”

Shen Wengang didn't give these impolite officers any good face.

“Alright, then we’ll leave first,” Duan Bing said.

The other two people beside him looked dissatisfied and puzzled, wondering why he had compromised. Duan Bing did not explain, telling both of them to get in the car, and then they left.

Mayor Gong’s office.

“Do you gentlemen need anything else?” Mayor Gong asked, puzzled, seeing the three officers return.
