263: Chapter 263 Chaos at Baishan Settlement Center

“Oh no! Zombies have entered the city, run!”

“Run west! Everyone go through the West Gate! Run!”

In Yuanjiang City’s Baishan Settlement, chaos erupted just as dusk fell. People were shouting at the top of their lungs, and the streets were filled with panicked crowds fleeing.

“What’s going on?” Mayor E walked onto the street and grabbed a fleeing Citizen, asking.

“The zombies have attacked, run!” The Citizen pulled away from Mayor E’s grasp and continued to flee forward.

“Zombies attacked? How is that possible?” Mayor E looked astonished.

He checked the time; it was only a little past eight.

Based on the time, even if zombies were attacking the city, they couldn’t possibly reach the Settlement this quickly. They needed time to travel, and they couldn’t move during the day. So, to attack the Settlement, the earliest they could arrive would be past nine.

“Where is the Security Captain? Find him and bring him to me!” Mayor E shouted at the person following behind him.

He knew this was a serious matter. If the Citizens fell into chaos and fled the Settlement, the consequences would be extremely severe.

“Mayor E, it’s bad! The Security Captain led his men to Black Ridge!” Half an hour later, the person sent to find the Security Captain ran back, panting, to report.

“What? To Black Ridge? What is he doing there?” Mayor E was shocked.

Black Ridge is less than 10 kilometers west of the Baishan Settlement; there is only a small county town there, and no Settlement.

“I’m not sure, but the crowds are spreading rumors that there are no zombies there, and it’s safe.”

“Is the West Gate closed?” Mayor E asked.

“Mayor E, it can’t be closed! The Security Team members have all fled, and the West Gate has been occupied by the Citizens. Anyone who dares to close the gate will be ganged up on!” the reporting person complained.

“How dare they! This is lawless! Call everyone from the Command HQ, we’re going to the West Gate! I want to see who dares to do this!” Mayor E was furious.

So Mayor E led over a hundred people, heading grandly towards the West Gate.

By then, there weren’t many people left on the streets, only a sparse few who were old, weak, or sick. Their bodies were frail, and their legs were not nimble, so they walked very slowly.

Mayor E had no time for them and led his people quickly to the west.

By the time they reached the West Gate, it was too late.

The gate was wide open, and there were almost no people left. The few who remained were still slowly walking out of the city.

Seeing this scene, Mayor E clenched his teeth, his fists tightly balled.

“Send a few people back to get cars, we’re going to Black Ridge!” Mayor E ordered.

“Yes!” The secretary took the order to arrange the personnel.

Another half an hour later, a convoy of over a dozen vehicles, including sedans and trucks, formed a line and drove out of the Baishan Settlement’s West Gate, heading towards Black Ridge.

However, the vehicles could not pick up speed at all.

Along the way, they encountered many people still fleeing. Some tried to stop the cars, while others directly ran up and grabbed the truck railings, preparing to climb onto the vehicles. The staff standing in the back of the trucks continuously drove them away and pushed them, preventing them from getting on.

“Honk! If they don’t move, drive straight through them!” Mayor E ordered with a cold face.

“Ah? This…” The driver was startled by Mayor E’s order.

What if he accidentally ran someone over?

“Execute the order! You will not be held responsible if something happens!” Mayor E said.

“Oh. Okay.” The driver took the order, turned on the siren, and continuously pressed the horn on the car. A loud alarm blared on the dark road.

Immediately after, the driver slowly pressed the accelerator, and the vehicle began to speed up. The crowd ahead saw the increased speed and hurriedly dodged to both sides.

The driver tried his best to maintain control, avoiding hitting people as much as possible.

The vehicles finally picked up speed, with the cars behind following closely, afraid of being left behind if they fell out of formation. Once surrounded by the crowd, they couldn’t even imagine the consequences.

The journey of a few kilometers took nearly an hour to complete.

The road directly to Black Ridge was a national highway, and the only road connecting to the Baishan Settlement.

As they were about to reach Black Ridge, a large tree blocking the road stopped them.

“Who goes there? Get out of the car!” Behind the large tree, several Security Guards were squatting, waiting.

Mayor E directly opened the car door and got out.

“Put down your guns! What are you doing!?” Mayor E roared.

Most of the Settlement’s firearms were equipped to the Security Team, so at this moment, they all held guns in their hands.

The few Security Guards looked at each other, but no one obeyed him.

“Mayor E, don’t go any further, or we’ll really shoot!” one of the Security Guards shouted.

“Look at you, so capable! You’re rebelling against the heavens! Are you holding guns to kill your own compatriots? Huh?” Mayor E completely ignored them, loudly questioning and walking forward.

“Bang~” A gunshot rang out.

The bullet landed on the ground in front of Mayor E.

“Mayor E, I’m saying this one more time, please don’t go any further, or I really won’t be polite!” The Security Guard who fired the shot had a trembling hand holding the gun and spoke nervously.

Mayor E stopped walking when he saw the bullet land at his feet.

The staff following behind heard the gunshot, all got out of their cars, and followed him.
