268: Chapter 268 Niu Xingwang's Son

“Brother Niu, why have I never heard you mention your son before?” Oriental Chen asked.

“Alas, it’s a long story.”

Then, Niu Xingwang recounted his son’s story.

His wife, Liu Cuiqin, also came over and sat beside him, weeping uncontrollably.

His son had been quite intelligent since childhood; though not top-notch, he was always among the best.

When it was time for university, Niu Xingwang wanted him to study a management-related major so he could take over his business later.

But his son had no interest in his business at all, even considering him a typical nouveau riche.

Niu Xingwang couldn't argue with him, so he didn't forcefully interfere, giving him the right to choose freely.

However, Niu Xingwang never expected him to choose medical school, because he had never shown any interest in medicine since he was a child.

Niu Xingwang was at a loss and had a big argument with his son because of it.

Niu Xingwang’s view was that the medical profession was simply too demanding.

He would be on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with no fixed rest time.

His family wasn’t short on money, so why choose such a strenuous profession?

His son said a lot of things about different directions and different professions, which Niu Xingwang really didn't remember.

Later, when his son graduated, he was directly recruited internally and chose to stay and work in the capital.

Niu Xingwang never knew what kind of job he did, only that it was a confidential industry.

The only thing he knew was that the place he worked was called Shanggong.

But what kind of unit Shanggong was, he didn't know and had never heard of it.

Since then, his son had only occasionally called home to report his safety; other than that, he had never returned.

“Shanggong?” Oriental Chen said in surprise.

“Mr. Dongfang, have you heard of it?” Niu Xingwang asked.

“Oh, yes. When I graduated from university back then, I almost went there too,” Oriental Chen said.

“So that’s it. What does this Shanggong do?” Niu Xingwang asked.

“Shanggong is not its real name. This place is actually called the Huaguo Industrial Research Institute, or Gongyan Institute for short.

However, because it involves many confidential scientific research projects, they usually use a different name,” Oriental Chen explained.

“So that’s it. I was wondering why I had never heard of such a unit,” Niu Xingwang said, looking at his wife.

“Then what happened later? Why did your son become like this?” Oriental Chen asked.

Although Oriental Chen had heard of Shanggong, it was only hearsay.

He had chosen to give up at that time, and had not heard anything related since.

“Alas, in the first half of last year, we suddenly received a notice saying that a serious safety accident occurred at my son’s unit, and he unfortunately perished.

When we received that news, it felt like the sky had fallen,” Niu Xingwang said sorrowfully.

It was evident that even now, when he brought up the matter, he was still deeply heartbroken.

“Ever since that time, every time his son is mentioned, she cries.

Later, I simply stopped mentioning him,” Niu Xingwang said, looking at his wife.

“It seems that there might be a hidden reason behind the so-called safety accident.

Otherwise, if your son is still alive, there’s no need to hide it from you,” Oriental Chen analyzed.

“It seems so,” Niu Xingwang agreed.

“Now that the people from the Gongyan Institute have come, it means they have their eyes on you,” Oriental Chen continued.

“What should we do next?” Niu Xingwang asked.

He was also very conflicted internally.

The Huatong Chamber of Commerce was not his personal property; he had no right to transfer shares.

But on the other hand, his son was still in their hands, and if he didn't agree to their terms, his son's life might be in danger.

Clearly, they intended to use this to threaten Niu Xingwang and force him to compromise.

“Tomorrow, you agree to their terms, and we’ll wait and see what happens next,” Oriental Chen said.

“Agree to their terms?” Niu Xingwang was greatly surprised.

“Don’t worry, don’t you know the Huatong Chamber of Commerce well enough?

It’s not something they can just interfere with.

If we shut them out, we’d have to spend effort investigating.

It’s better to let them in; we can gain both time to buffer and more intelligence, killing two birds with one stone,” Oriental Chen explained.

Niu Xingwang nodded.

As for whether it would be letting the wolf into the house, Niu Xingwang was not worried.

He couldn't speak for other places, but in Binjiang, no one could truly threaten Oriental Chen.

Although there was a purpose behind this, Niu Xingwang was sincerely grateful to Oriental Chen for being willing to give up shares to find a way to save his son.

Just as Niu Xingwang and his wife reached the door, Liu Cuiqin turned around, quickly walked to Oriental Chen, and was about to kneel down.

Oriental Chen quickly stepped forward to help her up.

“Sister Liu, what are you doing!” Oriental Chen exclaimed angrily.

“Mr. Dongfang, I don’t know how to thank you,” Liu Cuiqin started crying again, tears streaming down her face.

This must be the deep love for a child.

In Liu Cuiqin’s heart, her son was everything to her.

She simply instinctively wanted to express her gratitude in this way.

“That’s easy! Just make more delicious food for everyone in the future!” Oriental Chen said with a smile.

Liu Cuiqin was also amused, silently nodded, wiped her tears, and left with Niu Xingwang.
