93: Chapter 93: Rage of Zong Zhengyue
Upon hearing the command, everyone quickly split into two teams and rushed towards the stairs on both sides.
The charge on the left was smooth, and they quickly reached the second floor.
However, the right side was not so smooth; for no apparent reason, a group of people started dancing in place, then tumbled down the stairs, their guns flying from their hands and clattering to the ground.
They had been electrocuted, but the attackers were worried that too much energy would kill them, so they only gave them a slight jolt.
Before anyone could pick up the guns on the ground, they instantly flew up, then disassembled, turning into parts that clattered back to the ground.
Without their guns, this team became like little white rabbits; several Mutants suddenly rushed out and easily subdued them all.
At the same time, the second floor wasn't much better.
Several Mutants, dressed in stolen Combat Suits, charged directly into the crowd, and the outcome was predictable.
Zongzheng Yue was anxiously waiting outside when, suddenly, over a hundred people came out one after another, all looking disheveled. Seeing this, he knew it was over; they had been routed.
The other side hadn't lost a single person, while his side was completely wiped out, all in less than 20 minutes.
Soon after, Shen Wengang also emerged with his Dark Night Squad, some of them carrying the Combat Suits they had just seized.
"Commander, I apologize, I didn't control the intensity well," Shen Wengang said with a smile.
Zongzheng Yue's face was ashen.
How embarrassing! His carefully selected 200 Soldiers couldn't defeat a dozen new recruits!
If this got out, he would truly have nowhere to put his face.
"Tiangang, I'm very curious, what exactly is so special about you Mutants?" Zongzheng Yue's words sounded like both a sigh and a question.
"Qian Luo, demonstrate for Commander Zong, but be mindful of the intensity," Shen Wengang instructed Luoer, who was beside him.
"Yes!" Luoer responded, standing at attention.
Shen Wengang chose Luoer for the demonstration with a purpose: first, Luoer was the earliest Mutant and, after two months of training, was also the strongest; second, the mental control Luoer wielded had a tremendous visual impact, best serving an "educational" purpose.
Luoer stepped forward, her legs slightly bent, her hands forming palms, and made a lifting motion.
Zongzheng Yue was about to ask what she was preparing to do, but the next scene utterly astonished him.
A large pile of machine gun parts, pushed out on a cart by two Soldiers, flew out of the cart one by one, forming a long line that flew back and forth above the crowd.
For a moment, they formed the character for "person," and then the character for "one."
Finally, they flew back into the cart one after another.
After finishing, Luoer saluted Commander Zong and Shen Wengang, then walked back.
"This, this, this... is this a special ability?" Zongzheng Yue was dumbfounded, looking at such a spectacular scene.
"More or less!" Shen Wengang replied.
"This is the strength of a Mutant?" Zongzheng Yue asked.
"The strength of each Mutant varies; each has its advantages and disadvantages," Shen Wengang explained truthfully.
"Too powerful, truly too powerful," Zongzheng Yue exclaimed.
At this moment, Zongzheng Yue was like a mountain cat who had never seen the world.
"Commander Zong, someone once said that future battles will be battles of Mutants. I believe this statement is very accurate," Shen Wengang hinted.
He was implying to Zongzheng Yue that it was time to take Mutants seriously.
"Although Mutants are powerful, they also have limitations," Zongzheng Yue still disagreed on this point.
"Oh? I'd be glad to hear Commander Zong's teachings," Shen Wengang said humbly.
"There are too few Mutants; it's hard to find even one in ten thousand. Such people are too few to influence the course of a battle at all," Zongzheng Yue stated his view.
This was also the view of most senior generals in the military.
It might be possible to find one or two dozen Mutants with the strength of the entire nation. But how much can one or two dozen people accomplish? Don't they still have to rely on the vast number of ordinary Soldiers?
"Not necessarily. Commander Zong, allow me to tell you, I did not become a Mutant after being infected," Shen Wengang said.
This was the order Oriental Chen had just given: to reveal the existence of the vaccine to Zongzheng Yue and point to Yan Fangfang as the provider of the vaccine.
"Oh? I don't quite understand," Zongzheng Yue frowned, not grasping the meaning.
"My meaning is, if there were a type of agent..." Shen Wengang only said half a sentence, not continuing.
"You mean, there's an agent that can turn people into Mutants?" Zongzheng Yue roughly understood the meaning.
"That's right!" Shen Wengang replied.
"What? There really is?" Zongzheng Yue was greatly surprised.
If that were the case, wouldn't it be possible to mass-produce Mutants?
"Whether there is or not, you'll know if you ask one person," Shen Wengang said quietly, cryptically.
"Who?" Zongzheng Yue whispered.
"Commander Yan of the Southwest Military Region," Shen Wengang said.
"Damn it! That guy was holding out on me!" Zongzheng Yue gnashed his teeth in anger.
He had just returned from the Southwest Military Region, and Yan Zhengping hadn't revealed a single word to him.
No, he had to go find him!
Shen Wengang watched Zongzheng Yue leave in a huff, a knowing smile on his face.
Then, through his Digital Eye, he sent a message to Oriental Chen: Done!
Shuchuan Province, Yun Du City, Southwest Military Region Headquarters.
"Old Yan, Old Yan! Get out here, you old bastard!" As soon as Zongzheng Yue entered the Commander-in-Chiefs office building, he began to shout.
