102: Hilltop Rabbit Strike

Looking at Wu Disheng’s retreating figure, Cheng Xiao said thoughtfully, “Lord Pan, your personality seems to have changed recently.”

“Don’t worry, I’m still sincere with you. As for Wu Disheng, we’ll see how he performs. At worst, he’s just a Eugene,” Pan Han sighed.

“Who is Eugene?” Cheng Xiao asked with a puzzled expression.

“I watched a TV show before, also about a zombie apocalypse. There was a character named Eugene who went around telling everyone he was the key figure to saving the apocalypse, just to survive. In reality, he was just an ordinary person.”

“What was his ending then?”

“From being cowardly and full of hot air, he eventually became a trustworthy companion to everyone.”

“That’s quite a big change.”

“Perhaps that’s the charm of growth.”

“Before you came, we were just barely surviving. Who would dare to hope for growth?” Cheng Xiao said quietly.

“Come, let me check if you’ve grown.” Pan Han, seeing no one around, started to get handsy again, his hand already reaching into Cheng Xiao’s clothes.

“Are you energetic again?” Cheng Xiao certainly wouldn’t refuse Pan Han’s advances.

“Oh, little girl, you’re quite bold!”

“You’re the one who’s bold!”

…

The next day, just as dawn was breaking, Pan Han and Cheng Xiao were still in deep sleep when the door of their small house was suddenly knocked on violently.

“Lord Pan!” Ma Ji’s voice came from outside the door.

The two inside woke up simultaneously from the bed, squinting at each other: “Something’s happened!”

Pan Han quickly put on his clothes and ran to open the door. Cheng Xiao was slower to dress and first wrapped herself in a bedsheet.

As soon as the door opened, Ma Ji poked her head in. Seeing Cheng Xiao’s situation, she quickly pulled her head back.

“What is it, Ma Ji?” Pan Han rubbed his face to clear his head.

“Lord Pan, the Mountain Top Rabbits are on strike!”

Pan Han didn’t react for a moment, blinking his eyes hard twice.

“What’s going on? Tell me in detail.” Pan Han had never heard of rabbits going on strike before.

“After work last night, the rabbits seemed to be chattering about something. This morning, when it was time to start work, they wouldn’t move. No matter how much we pulled them, they wouldn’t budge.”

Cheng Xiao heard this and knew something was indeed wrong, so she quickly hid behind the door to get dressed.

“What did the Mountain Top Rabbits say?” Pan Han asked.

“Not quite sure, but they were just chirping, and their emotions seemed a bit angry. Lord Pan, please go take a look.” Ma Ji was a bit anxious.

“Alright, wait for me for two minutes.” With that, Pan Han left the door ajar and tidied himself up a bit more.

Two minutes later, Pan Han, Ma Ji, and Cheng Xiao headed straight for the outer base in the North District.

At this time, the wild rabbits were gathered in a large group, none of them moving. Facing them were several people from Mountaintop Stronghold, trying to use sticks to urge the rabbits to work faster.

“Stop!” Pan Han arrived and, seeing the situation, immediately shouted to stop them.

Although the Mountain Top Rabbits were mutated animals, they were still members of Pan Han’s group and should not be treated this way.

Seeing Pan Han arrive, the rabbits all surged towards him, chattering.

“Mountain Top Rabbit, come out.” With so many rabbits, Pan Han couldn’t quite distinguish the previous leader rabbit for a moment, so he called out.

Hearing this, the rabbits all made way, and the Mountain Top Rabbit scurried over from behind.

“Chirp, chirpy chirp!” As soon as it reached Pan Han, the Mountain Top Rabbit started chirping.

“Oh, oh, alright, I’m here. Tell me, what’s the situation?” Pan Han could tell at a glance that the rabbits had been wronged, so he quickly reached out to stroke the rabbit’s head.

“Chirp, chirp, chirp, chirpy chirpy chirp!” Seeing Pan Han coming to advocate for them, the Mountain Top Rabbit quickly explained the reason to him.

Pan Han nodded repeatedly after listening. Cheng Xiao stood between the rabbits and the Mountaintop Stronghold people, preventing further conflict.

Ma Ji knew that the rabbits listened most to Pan Han, so the stone in her heart fell, and her expression relaxed slightly.

“Chirp, chirpy chirp!” The Mountain Top Rabbit chirped more and more excitedly, squatting on the ground and extending its two front paws, gesturing in the air.

Pan Han felt like laughing at its actions, but considering the bigger picture, he forcibly suppressed it.

Just like that, one person and one rabbit communicated for a few minutes.

Pan Han then stroked the rabbit’s head again, telling it to rest for a while, saying he understood the situation and would give the rabbits an explanation.

“Lord Pan, what’s going on?” Ma Ji, seeing that the communication had yielded results, quickly came forward to ask.

“Guess why the rabbits are throwing a tantrum!” Pan Han asked Ma Ji and Cheng Xiao with a slight smile.

“Could it be that they’re not eating enough? No, that’s impossible, the food has been fine recently.”

“No. Cheng Xiao, you guess.”

“They’re tired, right.”

“Yes, you guessed it. They’re exhausted,” Pan Han told everyone the answer.

“No way, these wild rabbits are mutated. Logically, their physical strength shouldn’t be worse than humans,” Ma Ji said, somewhat disbelieving.

“How many days did it take for your Mountaintop Stronghold to finish repairs?” Pan Han asked.

“It was done in a day and a half.”

“How long has construction been going on here?”

“Four or five days, I guess.”

“Hmm, that’s it. Rabbits prefer quiet. The construction site operates day and night, and they’re also working two shifts. It has severely affected their nerves. They’re on the verge of collapse, which is why they went on strike,” Pan Han slowly revealed the true reason.

“Chirp, chirp!” The rabbits applauded Pan Han after hearing this.

Seeing this, Ma Ji knew she had been too focused on progress and neglected the rabbits’ feelings. Her face instantly became awkward, and she nodded apologetically to the rabbits, expressing her regrets.

“I just discussed it with the leader rabbit. They can support a maximum of 12 hours of work per day, for 3 consecutive days. If it exceeds that, their nerves can’t handle it,” Pan Han told everyone the result of his communication with the rabbits.

Cheng Xiao frowned slightly upon hearing this, stepped forward, and whispered to Pan Han, “Lord Pan, if they can’t work efficiently, then spending so many resources to feed them would be a loss.”

Although Cheng Xiao’s voice was very soft, just think about how big a rabbit’s ears are.

This sentence naturally did not escape the rabbits’ ears. Several rabbits couldn’t resist and jumped up, kicking Cheng Xiao’s backside.

Cheng Xiao didn’t expect the rabbits to suddenly go wild. She stumbled from the kicks and almost fell.

Pan Han quickly steadied Cheng Xiao, but couldn’t help but laugh heartily.

“Leader Rabbit, tell your brothers to quiet down. I think Cheng Xiao makes a good point. Although I have resources here, I absolutely do not support idlers or animals. This precedent cannot be set.”

The leader rabbit heard this, wanted to chirp a couple of times, but held back, turned around, and herded the other rabbits back.

Everyone heard Pan Han say this and also wanted to know how he would solve this problem.

Pan Han gestured for everyone to be quiet, found a wooden box, and stood on it.

“Everyone, stop for a moment. I have a few words to say.”

The people working in the distance also quickly put down their work and gathered around Pan Han.

“Everyone has worked hard, and on behalf of Dawn Base, I thank you all. At the same time, I also want to commend the Mountain Top Rabbits!”

Everyone heard that a strike was still worth commending and expressed their confusion.

The rabbits, hearing they were being commended, all raised their paws and applauded.

“Why should a strike be commended? Because they gave it their all. Our base has a heavy construction task recently, and everyone is working very hard, but rabbits and humans have different habits. They cannot stand such a noisy environment. For the past few days, the rabbits have been working through gritted teeth, and some of their companions have already had nervous breakdowns.”

Everyone was surprised to hear this. They had all been focused on overtime, but no one had paid attention to the changes in the rabbits.

“Therefore, we need to change our strategy and let the Mountain Top Rabbits do what they are better at. That is the true way to make the best use of everyone’s talents!” Pan Han had already planned this internally, so he didn’t discuss it with others, but prepared to announce it directly.

“Our base doesn’t support idlers, but that doesn’t mean everyone has to do the same thing. From now on, the Dawn Base Mountain Top Rabbit Squadron is established!” Pan Han’s words were astonishing, and everyone didn’t react for a moment. The rabbits also looked bewildered, their paws covering their rabbit lips.

“So, what will the Mountain Top Rabbit Squadron be responsible for? That is, to utilize their quiet and stealthy characteristics. They will be responsible for the security of the area around the base and the transportation lines of Mountaintop Stronghold.”

The rabbits heard this and, realizing this job was more suitable for them than transporting supplies, applauded enthusiastically.

Ma Ji and Cheng Xiao also applauded. Ma Ji was impressed by how Pan Han instantly solved the problem, while Cheng Xiao praised Pan Han’s broad thinking and how he was increasingly showing the demeanor of a commander.

“Mountain Top Rabbit, do you have any opinions?”

“Chirp!”

“No opinions are good. Then from now on, we’ll have drones in the sky and the Mountain Top Rabbit Squadron on the ground. Dawn Base will be as solid as a rock!” Pan Han said with an imposing and spirited demeanor.

Suddenly, static crackled from Cheng Xiao’s walkie-talkie.

“Calling Seventh Sister, calling Seventh Sister.” It was Old Third’s voice.

“Third Brother, I’m here. What happened?”

“Is Lord Pan nearby? Our patrol vehicle was blown up by a landmine, there are casualties!”

Holy cow! This is truly getting slapped in the face right after showing off!

Pan Han had just announced the establishment of the Mountain Top Rabbit Squadron and resolved the strike crisis, and trouble immediately arrived!
