156: Nile Hotel
It was late at night in the capital, and the city was brightly lit. This city accommodates nearly thirty million people. Countless top companies, countless top universities, and countless top hospitals are located in this ancient city.
Although it has a long history, with the rise of Dragon Country, this ancient city has also regained its youth.
It attracts countless outstanding young people from surrounding provinces to come here to seek their fortunes.
It's a pity that the capital does not believe in tears; as new people continuously pour in, older ones naturally leave one after another.
As the saying goes, the capital is always young, and you will eventually grow old.
A black Mercedes drove through the traffic, sometimes crawling, sometimes speeding.
Uncle Cheng sat in the car, his hands tightly gripping the steering wheel, preoccupied.
He had left the organization five years ago and lived a peaceful life for five years, but unfortunately, that peace was about to be broken today.
Leaving the main road, the Mercedes turned into a small alley.
At the end of the alley was an ordinary-looking three-story building, surrounded by a dilapidated high wall, with a tightly closed, pitch black (pitch-black) gate.
The plaque prominently read—Nile Hotel.
Still 100 meters away, Uncle Cheng stopped the car. From a distance, the four large characters gleamed golden in the light.
He narrowed his eyes, his breathing became erratic, and memories from the past flooded his mind.
After a long while, he gradually calmed down. Then, he restarted the Mercedes and drove straight towards the gate.
After parking the car, he straightened his clothes and slowly walked to the door.
Clap clap clap! Three short knocks on the door.
A few seconds later, a small observation window opened in the middle of the large gate.
"A Cheng, you're here," an old voice came from inside.
"Yes, Uncle Da," Uncle Cheng nodded, saying softly.
"That's good, come in." With that, the large gate slowly opened, revealing a driveway.
Uncle Cheng turned back to his car and drove in.
Inside the gate was a very large courtyard, with at least twenty parking spaces, where a few cars were sparsely parked.
After Uncle Cheng parked his car, Uncle Da came to the car, leaning on his cane.
"Uncle Da, long time no see." After Uncle Cheng got out of the car, he quickly supported Uncle Da's arms.
"You brat, you still remember to come back. Did you forget about this old man?" Uncle Da was slightly hunched, trying to raise his head to look at Uncle Cheng.
"Uncle Da, are you doing well?" Uncle Cheng's expression was slightly tense as he asked.
"Good! Just very bored." Uncle Da's voice instantly became much clearer.
"You're complaining about me, old man."
"You've been doing well these past few years, haven't you?" Uncle Da continued to ask.
"Thanks to you, everything is well."
"You little rascal, only your mouth is good. Alright, go in. You're in a hurry coming so late, aren't you?" Uncle Da poked Uncle Cheng's backside with his cane.
"Thank you, Uncle Da." Uncle Cheng, obedient like a primary school student, bowed to Uncle Da and headed straight for the main building of the hotel.
Seeing him walk away, Uncle Da narrowed his eyes, staring at his retreating figure, his eyes incredibly sharp.
Compared to the courtyard, the main building of this hotel appeared much more miniature and ancient. The room windows were all covered with heavy curtains, making it impossible to tell from the outside if the lights were on inside. Only a sliver of light emanated from the lobby on the first floor of the entire main building.
Uncle Cheng pushed open the main door and entered the lobby, which contained a few tables and chairs and a counter.
In the entire lobby, only a thin, tall man with glasses stood at the counter, looking down at something.
"Hello, A Cheng." The man with glasses looked up at him, then lowered his head to continue reading.
"Hello, Leilong."
Although they didn't say much, their words conveyed a sense of old acquaintances.
Uncle Cheng slowly walked to the counter and sat down on a chair.
"Going home?" Leilong finally put down his hands and looked up at Uncle Cheng.
"I'm checking on someone to see if he's part of the organization." Uncle Cheng didn't answer directly but stated his purpose straightforwardly.
"Did you bring it?" Leilong extended a hand.
Uncle Cheng took out a gold coin from his Pregnant (bosom) and handed it to him.
Leilong took it without even looking, placing it into a metal cabinet nearby.
Ding! After a clanking sound, a small light above the cabinet emitted a green glow.
"Who are you checking?" Leilong saw the green light and nodded to Uncle Cheng.
"The name is Pan Han, this is his photo." Uncle Cheng took out his phone, which had a photo he had prepared earlier, with Pan Han's name written on it.
"Wait." Leilong took the phone and started entering information into the computer.
During the inquiry, Uncle Cheng was slightly nervous but couldn't stare at the other person, so he had to look around.
It really hasn't changed at all, still the same old electric fan. Uncle Cheng was filled with emotion.
"No such person." Leilong confirmed the result and told Uncle Cheng.
A suspended heart finally settled. Uncle Cheng let out a long sigh of relief.
"Thank you."
Before, it only took him two minutes to fool Wang Cheng; now, it only took him twenty seconds to check Pan Han.
A gold coin was just gone like that.
"What would you like to drink? My treat." Leilong didn't rush him but started chatting with Uncle Cheng.
"Orange juice with ice," Uncle Cheng replied.
"Still the same," Leilong's expression gradually relaxed.
"Mm."
"Is this person very important?" Leilong asked while making a drink in a glass.
"Sort of," Uncle Cheng replied vaguely.
"Do you need additional services?" Leilong handed over the orange juice.
"No, thank you!"
"Then this gold coin is a pity," Leilong poured himself a glass of orange juice as well.
"It's good news that he's not from the organization. Not a loss," Uncle Cheng chuckled awkwardly.
"Are you coming back?"
"No."
"Alright, then finish this drink and go."
"Understood."
The two didn't waste words; after a few brief exchanges, they fell silent.
Leilong was still looking through something, while Uncle Cheng fell into contemplation.
If Pan Han was not from the organization, then he might be a descendant of some Big Leader, just with his identity hidden.
If he was neither of those, then he was a newcomer who had emerged from nowhere.
Big figures have big figures' ways, and newcomers have newcomers' ways.
As long as he's not from the organization, it's all manageable.
Thinking this, Uncle Cheng drank the orange juice in one gulp, returned the glass to Leilong, nodded, and turned to leave.
Leilong returned his gaze, took the glass, and continued reading.
Walking out of the lobby, Uncle Cheng realized his back was drenched in sweat, and a gust of wind sent a chill through him.
"Leaving, A Cheng?" Uncle Da saw him come out.
"Yes. Uncle Da, please don't bother coming out further." Uncle Cheng stepped forward to support Uncle Da.
"Are you coming back?"
"No, I won't. Please take care of yourself, old man."
"Cough cough. This old man, to be able to see you one more time. That's already good. Hurry and go."
"Goodbye, Uncle Da."
The two didn't say much and parted ways there.
Uncle Cheng drove straight to the gate, Uncle Da opened the door for him, and the two exchanged another look, nodding to each other in acknowledgment.
Watching the Mercedes drive away, Uncle Da slowly closed the gate.
It was as if his heart had closed once more.
The entire Nile Hotel once again fell into dead silence.
"Hello, Old Master Wang. It's confirmed, he's not from the organization." As soon as he drove out of the alley, Uncle Cheng immediately reported to Old Master Wang.
"Good, I know. You rest." Old Master Wang hung up the phone, a slight smile on his lips, his mood also relaxing: "Xiao Pan, then let's begin our formal cooperation."
