443: Make conditions to the chief
It was insane!
This idea was too insane!
Ellie's mind went blank; she couldn't imagine what it would look like to see 11 plumes of black smoke rising over the vast ocean.
These were genuine nuclear-powered aircraft carriers! And there were dozens of nuclear submarines following beneath them.
What would the man in front of her have to do to sink 11 nuclear aircraft carriers?
However, just as Pan Han said, almost no one had ever thought of this.
When an idea is so insane that no one even dares to think about it, is there any point in it existing?
What kind of brain could come up with such a line of thinking?
Pan Han finished his cigarette in silence, then turned and wrapped his arms around Ellie. "Don't worry," he said. "I won't act rashly until I reach the level of a high-level evolver."
Ellie responded with a passionate hug and, after a long while, whispered, "If it doesn't work out, just come back to the apocalypse. You still have a home here."
"Mn!"
...
The next morning, Pan Han kissed Ellie goodbye and traveled back to his shared apartment.
A strong sense of unreality instantly washed over him.
Pan Han looked at the bustling streets outside, his eyes dazed.
He began to doubt the reality of the battle on Knight Island. Had someone really come to assassinate him? Had Ellie really died?
Traveling back and forth between two worlds, he always felt like one of them was a dream.
But he couldn't tell which was the dream and which was reality.
Perhaps both were dreams!
He took out his phone, and the countless messages brought him back to reality from his dream state.
There were messages from his family, the Knight Order, Guo Jing, and even Yan Xiaoli and Wang Doudou.
Pan Han pulled up Guo Jing's messages; there were very few, only three:
"Your family is safe!"
"Let me know when you return."
"Reply as soon as you see this."
Each message was sent days apart. Although short, every word was powerful.
Pan Han let out a long sigh and dialed Guo Jing's number directly. "Hello, I'm back."
"Good. They've withdrawn, and your family is safe. Come to the hotel." Guo Jing's tone was very calm, as if he knew Pan Han would call at this moment.
"Okay!"
Pan Han went downstairs to catch a taxi and replied to some other messages on the way.
When he arrived at the hotel, the Chief was actually already waiting for him.
In the conference room, where three or five people sat amidst swirling cigarette smoke, the Chief spoke first:
"Everything has been cleared up. It was because you saved those people last time that the Eagles sent people to take you out."
"Thank you, Chief. I've also found out some things myself," Pan Han said.
"You kid have quite the ability, causing us to spend half the day cleaning up your mess." The Chief tossed him a cigarette and told him to smoke that one.
"I'm sorry, Chief. I've caused you trouble," Pan Han said, respectfully taking the cigarette with a look of apology.
"It's not really trouble. In such a big country, there's always something going on every day. As long as it's settled, it's fine." The Chief looked relaxed, even carrying a subtle, imperceptible smile.
Guo Jing sat to the side, honest and silent, sitting quietly and taking notes.
"Chief, how did we settle it?" Pan Han had sunk an Eagle fleet, which had a huge impact, and he wanted to know how they had managed to calm the other side's anger.
"Haha! Do you think they wanted anyone else to know? The leaders of both countries spoke on the phone, and it was considered covered up."
"As for within the Eagle faction, they have their ways. Things they don't want outsiders to know will definitely not get out."
The Chief chuckled, and the atmosphere instantly became much more lively.
"Ah? Even Chief One got involved?" Pan Han was shocked; he hadn't expected his affairs to have reached the highest level.
"Heh, you kid are really a bit like the Monkey King. You've got two great powers spinning around you."
"What did Chief One say?" Pan Han asked nervously.
"Externally, the Eagles begged us not to expose it, so we made some demands. Internally, he actually praised you, saying you let us vent some pent-up frustration!"
"Uh, I actually didn't think that much. I just wanted to take revenge," Pan Han blushed. This praise was no small matter; if things went well, the Lao Pan family genealogy might need a new page.
"However, although the Eagles won't mess with you anymore, they will definitely target the Knight Order. You need to be prepared," the Chief suddenly became serious and warned Pan Han.
"Chief, I know that. But since we've already fallen out, it doesn't matter. As for money, how much is ever enough?" Pan Han looked indifferent. He had no feelings for the Knight Order; he had always treated them as an agency to get things done—the kind that you pay to get things done.
Since he took over as the cult leader, he had given the Knight Order countless gold and oil, enough for their procurement costs.
As for how this organization would develop, it was completely outside of Pan Han's plans.
In peacetime, having the country is enough. He didn't want to play both sides, maintaining a massive business empire and an underground organization.
Here, he just wanted to live quietly with his family.
The fighting and killing in the apocalypse was purely out of necessity; he didn't want to bring any of that into the current world at all.
As the saying goes, an era without heroes is a good era!
"Hey, you don't have to be so pessimistic. The country won't just sit by and watch. It's rare that the Knight Order stands up for our country, and with a patriotic cult leader like you, if the Eagles want to deal with the Knight Order, we have to make them lose a layer of skin too." The Chief clearly had something else in mind.
Upon hearing this, Pan Han's mind turned slightly, and he understood what was meant.
The country wanted to let the Knight Order charge to the front, acting as the vanguard in the conflict between the two nations.
After all, trade wars were better than real fighting with guns and swords.
If the Dragon Kingdom wanted to replace the Eagles and sit on the throne of world hegemony, it wouldn't happen overnight.
Avoiding military conflict was in the long-term interest.
"I understand, Chief. But I don't know much about this area. When the time comes, just tell me what I need to do," Pan Han said calmly.
"Chief One has been waiting for those words from you. On behalf of the country, I thank you!" The Chief suddenly stood up, spoke solemnly to Pan Han, and then raised his hand to give a standard military salute.
Guo Jing and the others behind him also immediately stood up and followed suit.
Pan Han didn't react in time. The scene caught him off guard, and he didn't know how to return the salute, so he just stood there, stunned.
Fortunately, the Chief helped him out and signaled for everyone to sit down.
"Pan Han, do you have any requests?" After sitting down, the Chief continued to ask.
"Ah? I don't! Working for the country, what kind of requests could I have?" Pan Han was still bewildered.
"What era are we in? Although we advocate a spirit of dedication, the country doesn't want to take advantage of you. If you have any requests, just say them," the Chief said with a smile, waving his hand.
"Uh, then I'll say it?" Pan Han suddenly thought of a long list of items. If he didn't bring it up now, when would he?
"Go ahead! Today, I have a lot of authority! Chief One specifically instructed me," the Chief said with a chuckle, his expression clearly very relaxed.
"Okay, then I want the full equipment for 10 heavy armored brigades, 500 units of ammunition, 500 combat aircraft, and 20 million tons of various grains." Pan Han had calculated before that to arm the troops of four states and then unify the country, he would need at least that much.
...
The conference room instantly fell into silence. Guo Jing was sitting in the back, and his heavy breathing reached Pan Han's ears.
