82: Second Aunt's Illness
Pan Han’s hometown was a small county town in a northern province of Long Country, about 40 kilometers from the coast, in a traditionally agricultural province.
It had mountains, water, and was near the sea, so the overall quality of life was decent, but in recent years, economic development had slowed, leaving it far behind several surrounding counties.
Pan Han listened to music, hummed a tune, and held the steering wheel with one hand, speeding home along the highway.
“The maybach and the M5 are indeed two completely different feelings. This car drives smoothly and steadily, with no lack of power, and maximum comfort,” Pan Han murmured to himself, touching the steering wheel.
He looked at the empty passenger seat and felt that a beautiful woman was indeed missing.
If he could bring a girlfriend back, his parents would be overjoyed.
“Forget it, next time. If they pressure me, I’ll bring Yan Xiaoli back next time to fill the void.”
In a flash, he had driven over 150 kilometers.
Pan Han needed to use the restroom, so he exited at a service area to solve the problem.
After coming out, he discovered that local specialties were sold there, so he quickly bought a pile and threw them into the spacious trunk of the maybach. However, these few items looked a bit empty, so he simply took out some milk, rice, noodles, and oil from his space.
“Hmm, that’s about right. Then I’ll give my parents some money, and that’ll be it,” Pan Han thought happily, hands on his hips, looking at the supplies in the trunk with a pleased expression.
“I can’t tell the old folks; I have to make it a surprise attack. Hehe, a big surprise.”
So, Pan Han got back in the car and continued driving.
At 11 AM, Pan Han exited the highway and headed straight for the county town.
“My goodness, it’s so lively today! There’s even some traffic.”
“Oh, they actually opened a new supermarket.”
“What, when did they open a KFC?”
“No way, there’s even a SPA salon now?”
Having not returned for several years, Pan Han found that his hometown had gained some new industries, and he gradually slowed down, driving and observing.
The county town wasn’t big, and soon he arrived at the entrance of his residential complex. He parked the car downstairs, carried his things upstairs, and knocked on the door.
After knocking for a long time, there was no one inside.
“Huh? Where are they?” Pan Han was full of joy, wanting to give his parents a surprise, but no one was home.
Usually, at this time, it would be almost dinner, and they would definitely be at home cooking.
Pan Han put down his things, took out his phone, and made a video call to his mother.
“Hello, Mom, where are you?”
The video opened, and Pan Han’s mother appeared on the screen.
“Oh? Son? Why are you video calling? Your father and I are at the hospital.”
“Ah? Why are you at the hospital? Who’s sick?”
“It’s your Second Aunt. She found some problems, and it’s not good. We all came. Where are you?” Pan Han’s mother’s expression changed from surprise to worry.
“I’m at the doorstep. I originally came back to see you. I’m coming to find you now. Is it our county hospital?” Pan Han was quite anxious when he heard that his Second Aunt was in trouble and wanted to go immediately.
“Yes, if you’re coming, hurry up,” Pan Han’s mother said, tears almost falling.
“Wait for me, I’ll be there soon.”
Pan Han hung up the video, dropped his things, and immediately drove straight to the hospital.
Pan Han’s mother had five siblings, and his Second Aunt was the best to him, always buying him delicious food and fun toys since he was little.
“Second Aunt’s health has always been fine, so why is she suddenly not well? It can’t be cancer, can it?” From his mother’s tone and expression, an ominous premonition surrounded Pan Han’s mind.
Ten minutes later, Pan Han had already arrived at the county hospital parking lot.
After asking for the room number, he rushed all the way to Room 206 on the second floor.
As soon as he entered, he found his father, mother, Second Aunts Husband, First Aunt, and First Aunt were all there, surrounding his Second Aunt with worried expressions.
His Second Aunt was lying on the bed, looking a bit weak, but she forced a smile on her face and was still comforting everyone.
“Second Aunt!” Pan Han called out and quickly rushed over.
Seeing Pan Han, everyone quickly made room for him, letting him sit beside his Second Aunt.
“Pan’er is back! Why didn’t you say anything in advance?” His Second Aunt moved her body, trying to sit up.
Pan Han quickly pressed her down, making her lie still.
“I originally wanted to come back quietly to give everyone a surprise, but my mom just said you had some issues, so I came straight here. Second Aunt, what exactly is your illness?”
“It’s nothing much, just that there’s a tumor in my brain. It doesn’t hurt or itch. I said I should just get discharged quickly,” his Second Aunt maintained a forced smile.
“Ah? When was it discovered?”
“Son, let your Second Aunt rest. Let’s go outside and talk,” Pan Han’s father suddenly said, giving Second Aunts Husband a meaningful look.
So the three walked out of the ward and went to the end of the corridor.
“His Second Aunts Husband, you tell him.”
“Sigh…” Second Aunts Husband sighed, his eyes instantly moistening.
“Second Aunts Husband, hurry up and tell me. What’s the situation with this illness? Does it need money, or what? I have it all!” Pan Han said anxiously.
“A few days ago, when your Second Aunt was cooking, her eyes suddenly went black, and she fainted. After we sent her to the hospital, the doctor said there was no major problem, but suggested a check-up. The check-up turned out to be significant; it’s actually a malignant brain tumor in her brain, and it has already started to compress nerves,” Second Aunts Husband briefly narrated what happened.
“How to treat it?”
“The doctor said we should go to the provincial hospital, or directly to the capital. The county hospital definitely can’t treat it; at most, she can stay for a few days for observation.”
“Then what are we waiting for? Let’s go. I have a car,” Pan Han immediately took out his car keys, demanding to take his Second Aunt to the capital at once.
“The doctor said that if this disease is to be treated further, the cost will not be low,” Second Aunts Husband sighed.
“Even so, we have to find out clearly first. What can our county hospital find out? Maybe they even made a mistake.”
“Just now, all of us were trying to persuade your Second Aunt. But your Second Aunt said that our family are all farmers, and if it’s found out, we won’t have money to treat it. It’s better to just go home and lie down; whatever years she lives will be considered a gain,” Second Aunts Husband expressed his Second Aunt’s concerns.
“Nonsense, with so many relatives, we can raise a few hundred thousand yuan,” Pan Han’s father said.
“His Second Aunt meant that it’s not easy for us to earn money, and our family still has two children. The money should still be left for the children.”
Pan Han understood his Second Aunt’s meaning. Their family were all farmers, earning only a few tens of thousands of yuan a year. Spending hundreds of thousands on treatment might collapse the entire family. And if it wasn’t cured, the money would be wasted.
“Don’t worry about the money; I have it. I’ll find the hospital connections, so there’s no need to worry either,” Pan Han saw that his Second Aunt was only worried about money, so it would be easy to handle.
“Ah?” Pan Han’s father and Second Aunts Husband were both surprised simultaneously.
“I have money now. Any illness that can be cured with money is not a big deal. Even if it can’t be cured with money, I can find a way. Don’t worry, Second Aunts Husband, Second Aunt’s illness is in my hands.”
Pan Han instantly reverted to his base lord state, his tone firm, his gaze burning.
“Come on, let’s go back and tell Second Aunt that we’ll go to the capital tomorrow,” Pan Han pulled the two elders and walked into the ward.
