28: Capture mutant zombies

“They just ran away? Bring them back for research.” Lord Pan disagreed with Qin Zhong.

“Lord Pan, First Level Zombies are a bit hard to catch; they are very strong. It’s easier to kill them,” Qin Zhong said.

“If not, just break their legs.”

“Alright. Third Brother, Sixth Brother, you two drive there.” Qin Zhong compromised.

“Lord, take me with you. I’ve caught First Level Zombies before,” Wei Monk said.

“Good, the three of you go. Catch them alive.”

“Yes, sir!”

After receiving the order, the three headed straight for the off-road vehicle and grabbed some ropes.

The two zombies were now more than 500 meters away from the base, still constantly looking back to observe the base's situation.

At this distance, the off-road vehicle would arrive in an instant.

Sixth Brother sat in the passenger seat. It was his first time seeing a First Level Zombie, and he leaned out halfway to observe carefully.

The two zombies even made eye contact with him.

“Ah!” Sixth Brother let out a surprised sound, instantly becoming displeased!

“You dare look at me!” Sixth Brother drew his gun, ready to shoot.

“Lord, let me do it. I have a way,” Wei Monk said.

Sixth Brother looked back at Wei Monk and saw that he was holding a lasso, similar to the kind cowboys use to rope cattle.

“Heh heh, you’re an interesting kid.”

Wei Monk also leaned out halfway, swinging the lasso in his right hand.

The two zombies noticed Wei Monk’s strange movements, knew the situation was bad, muttered to themselves, and quickened their pace.

But no matter how fast they were, how could they outrun an off-road vehicle? Third Brother drove, running parallel to the two zombies, about 10 meters apart.

Wei Monk swung the lasso a few times, seized an opportunity, and threw the lasso.

It hit in one go, lassoing one of them.

This zombie was firmly bound and instantly fell down.

The other killer suddenly accelerated and ran fiercely.

“Oh ho! He’s a hundred-meter sprinter!” Sixth Brother said with a laugh when he saw it, casually firing a shot at the zombie’s butt.

The bullet directly shattered the zombie’s pelvis.

“Owooo, owooo!” The zombie let out a painful wail, but it could no longer run and slowly crawled forward on the ground.

Third Brother stopped the car beside him, and Sixth Brother and Wei Monk got out.

Sixth Brother got out of the car and went straight for the zombie’s face, giving it a kick.

“Run? I’ll let you run! I’ll let you run! You think you’re so great, huh!” Sixth Brother muttered.

“Wei Monk, tie him up!”

“Yes!”

Wei Monk pulled out another rope and quickly tied up this zombie.

“Good kid, your skills are impressive!” Sixth Brother greatly praised Wei Monk’s agility.

“Heh heh, thank you for the compliment, Lord. I used to be a martial monk at the temple and practiced many things.”

“I’ll add a chicken drumstick to your meal when we get back!”

The three of them tied up the zombies again, ensuring they couldn't break free, then drove back.

Lord Pan, on the high wall, also saw Wei Monk’s skills and felt that this kid could be promoted.

The off-road vehicle drove directly to the backyard, where everyone was waiting.

“Lord Pan, mission accomplished,” Sixth Brother reported to Lord Pan.

“Pull them down, I want to take a look.”

“Yes!”

Sixth Brother and Wei Monk each led one, standing side by side.

Lord Pan walked up to the mutated zombies, narrowing his eyes as he examined them.

These two zombies seemed to know that Lord Pan was the leader and stared at Lord Pan with angry eyes.

Upon closer inspection, their skin was grayish-black, their muscles were much more developed than ordinary humans, their mouths were clean with no black mucus, and their eyes were black, with no visible whites.

“Hey, you two, can you understand human speech?” Lord Pan asked.

The two zombies did not react, only bared their fangs and roared at Lord Pan.

“Lord Pan, First Level Mutated Zombies probably can’t understand human speech,” Qin Zhong said from the side.

“Bring a can of food over,” Lord Pan said.

Cheng Xiao turned, got one, and handed it to him.

Lord Pan opened the can and waved it in front of the two zombies’ eyes.

The two zombies instinctively opened their mouths to reach for the luncheon meat. But after two attempts, they held back. Then they stared at Lord Pan with angry eyes.

“They really have self-control. Ordinary zombies aren’t like this, are they?” Lord Pan asked.

“No, ordinary zombies will instinctively eat when they smell meat.”

“Qin Laoda, do you know how they mutated?”

“I’m not sure. I only heard that zombie mutation happened earlier than the Evolution Potion. At that time, people were brutally hunted by mutated zombies, and only later did the Twelve Palaces research and develop the Evolution Potion.”

“Did they just naturally mutate when their numbers grew?” Lord Pan muttered again.

“Let Second Sister come and take a look,” Lord Pan asked.

Upon hearing this, Second Sister immediately approached to observe. A moment later, she shook her head at Lord Pan and Qin Laoda.

“Second Sister only studied medicine for two years before. It might not be enough for in-depth research,” Qin Zhong said.

“Alright, for the next mission, you’ll need to find real doctors, the research-oriented type,” Lord Pan said.

“Yes, Lord Pan.”

“Take them down first and lock them in a room.”

“Understood!” Sixth Brother and Wei Monk led the zombies away.

Once the zombies were far away, Lord Pan frowned and asked the crowd, “Do you feel that this attack was a bit strange?”

“Reporting to Lord Pan, I was just about to mention that.”

“Oh? Tell me about it.”

“Our base hasn’t encountered such a large zombie horde in several years. I suspect this attack was arranged by someone.”

Qin Laoda stated his judgment and looked at everyone.

“Such a large zombie horde certainly isn’t nearby. If they moved from afar, we go out on patrol every day and should have discovered their tracks. This time, they seemed to appear suddenly.”

“Continue!”

“I suspect they were transported to the vicinity by someone and then released to launch the attack.”

“Who has the ability to silently and quickly transport so many zombies?”

“In our Z City, only Z Tower can do that.”

“Do they have any motives?”

“They probably got news about the black market circulating supplies. They might be testing us. Of course, they might not have any other ideas; maybe they just accumulated a wave of zombies and decided to use us for practice.”

“Could they be trying to control us, and by extension, control resources?”

“Ultimately, it will all come down to this. Who wouldn’t covet resources?”

“Tomorrow, you lead a team and go get another batch of weapons and ammunition. I see we’re almost out this time.” Lord Pan thought for a moment, deciding to first resolve the most pressing safety issue at hand.

“That’s exactly what I intended. I’ll go tomorrow.”

“Let’s eat quickly. Everyone eat well, then rest.”

“I’ll go prepare.” Second Sister, upon hearing this, voluntarily led people to cook.

“Lord Pan, we’ll need to free up manpower tomorrow to clean up the battlefield. With so many corpses, the stench alone will be unbearable,” Cheng Xiao said.

“Alright, you arrange it. Go call Wei Monk to the second floor; I want to speak with him alone,” Lord Pan said.

“No, there must be someone at the door!” Cheng Xiao disagreed, fearing for Lord Pan’s safety. After all, Wei Monk had only been here for a short time, and his background was unclear.

“Then you stand guard at the door.”

“Yes, sir!”
