56: War preparations
After He Yong was confined to the villa, everyone else began preparing in a tense, orderly manner.
Third Brother and Fourth Brother first pried open the cans, poured out all the meat, then placed the plastic explosives inside, and inserted the fuses. The lids were pressed back on, taped securely, and then wrapped in kraft paper.
After one was made, it was handed to Qin Laoda for inspection. Once confirmed correct, slaves were summoned to begin mass production.
They needed to produce about 500 in total. Not only was time tight and the task heavy, but the extracted meat also had to be stored properly.
When Wei Monk came over with the slaves, he saw cans all over the ground, and his eyes widened.
“Third Brother, do you mean to turn all these cans into bombs?” Wei Monk asked, somewhat disbelievingly.
“Yes, each person needs to make a dozen or so. Hurry up.”
“Oh my goodness, just how many supplies does our Lord Pan have! This is too extravagant.”
“What? Are you craving it?” Third Brother saw through Wei Monk’s thoughts.
“A little.” Wei Monk swallowed and said.
“Lord Pan has ordered that the extracted meat is for everyone to eat as much as they want! As long as the work is completed on time!”
Upon hearing this, the slaves immediately stirred, their eyes gleaming with golden light, and their stomachs began to rumble.
“Work first, then eat meat! Get to it!” Third Brother only cared about his fifth brother and didn't care about these things at all.
“Fourth Brother, let’s take a few people to distribute the explosives, and the others should quickly assemble.”
“Alright, Brother!”
...
In the backyard, Pan Han and Cheng Xiao were inspecting the vehicles.
Cheng Xiao’s face was somewhat pale. After all, this was a large-scale team operation, and Pan Han also had to go deep into enemy territory to complete the demolition.
When she inspected the vehicles, she was clearly distracted. All of this was noticed by Pan Han.
“What’s wrong, worried about me!” Pan Han kicked a tire and said.
“Yes. If possible, even giving them more supplies would be fine,” Cheng Xiao said.
“Today, five cities are ceded; tomorrow, ten cities are ceded; then one can sleep peacefully for a night. Looking up at the four borders, the Qin army has arrived again.”
“What does that mean?” Cheng Xiao asked, surprised to hear Pan Han recite an ancient text she had never heard before.
“Do you think we can satisfy the Iron Gang?”
“Oh, I understand the principle, I’m just simply worried about you.”
“You’re not worried about me, you’ve fallen in love with me,” Pan Han said with a grin.
“Nonsense!” Cheng Xiao’s face instantly flushed.
“It’s been so long since the apocalypse, you’ve probably forgotten what it feels like to love someone, haven’t you.”
“I just hope the base gets better and better. Before you came, a few of us were on the brink of death. Now that we finally have hope, I don’t want to lose it.”
“Compared to the other 599.4 billion people, what else do we have to lose?” Pan Han suddenly said seriously.
Cheng Xiao was stunned after hearing this. She hadn’t expected such words to come from Pan Han’s mouth.
She instantly thought of her parents, gnawed to bones by zombies, and then of her teammates who died in the previous battle between the base and the Iron Gang. The hellish scenes of the past eight years, she tightly closed her eyes, adjusted her breathing, and finally uttered one word with determination:
“Kill!”
“That’s the right feeling!” Pan Han gave her a thumbs up.
At this moment, Second Sister had already prepared the medical first-aid kit. She wasn't sure about Fifth Brother's injuries, so she prepared more medicine and placed it in the passenger seat of the off-road vehicle.
“Fifth Brother, you must hold on! Our Lord Pan is using tons of cans to save you! If you don’t hold on, you won’t be worthy of all this meat!” Sixth Brother said while installing the ammunition belt on the machine gun.
“This Sixth Brother! He’s really Sixth Brother-like, even at a time like this, he can still make jokes!” Cheng Xiao was a little angry, pouting and glancing at Sixth Brother.
“Hey, I think it’s pretty good. This is called revolutionary optimism! Our base should promote this outlook on life in the future.” Pan Han, on the other hand, looked at Sixth Brother with appreciation.
After some tidying up, the vehicles were ready. Everyone gathered in the backyard, forming a circle.
“Everyone, the decisive battle is in three days. This is my first time fighting alongside all of you. I believe in you,” Pan Han, who had never given a pre-battle speech, simply spoke his mind calmly.
“Lord, I still suggest that the detonation mission be given to me,” Qin Zhong said solemnly.
“No need. I will have to face this challenge sooner or later!” Pan Han said with determined eyes.
“We will pick up Fifth Brother, and Second Sister will take him back first. Everyone else will remain in place. Once the explosion occurs, rush over to find you immediately.”
“If I die, you must still complete the mission! Kill all the Iron Gang; leave no future trouble!” Pan Han said resolutely.
“If we all die, Second Sister will take Fifth Brother and Sixth Brother and continue to develop the base!” Qin Zhong, hearing Pan Han’s great determination, turned and said to Bai Mei.
“Bah, bah, bah! You guys! Don’t say such inauspicious things!” Second Sister immediately became anxious upon hearing this.
“If you all die, I’ll eat all the cans in the base, stuff myself to death, and then come find you! Humph, humph!” Sixth Brother’s eyes were filled with tears, expressing his sincere heart with the most mischievous words.
“Sixth Brother, no whining!” Qin Zhong reprimanded him, but couldn’t help but pat his shoulder.
Hahahaha! Everyone burst into laughter, and the tense atmosphere immediately eased a lot.
“Sixth Brother, you’re great! Don’t worry, wait for us to come back!” Pan Han also patted him.
“I don’t care, anyway, that day I’ll make a big pot of delicious food, and if you don’t come back, I’ll eat it all by myself!”
Upon hearing this, Cheng Xiao couldn't help but go up and give Sixth Brother a hug.
“Sixth Brother! I’m definitely going to eat this meal!”
“Damn, why can’t I hear the word ‘definitely’ right now? It’s so awkward!” Pan Han couldn’t help but wiggle his butt.
...
Time flew by, and the departure date arrived.
These past few days, He Yong had been very cooperative, simply eating, drinking, and using the restroom, with someone to attend to him anyway.
Pan Han and Cheng Xiao originally wanted to restrain themselves, but couldn't resist having a go. Cheng Xiao said she didn't know if it would be the last time and didn't want to have any regrets.
It was 5 AM in the apocalypse, dawn was breaking, and everyone gathered at the main gate. After a simple check, He Yong was brought to the passenger seat of the off-road vehicle, and the convoy set off!
Sixth Brother stood on the watchtower, watching the departing group with tear-filled eyes, a 200-plus-pound man instantly crying like a big idiot.
The two bases were 300 kilometers apart. At full speed, it would only take 2 hours.
“When I last practiced driving, why didn’t you tell me this broken car could go so fast?” Pan Han sat in the passenger seat of the truck, gripping the handrail tightly, asking Cheng Xiao nervously.
“Don’t all our cars here go this fast? Does that even need to be said?” Ever since Cheng Xiao used a riding technique last night that made Pan Han fly, her speech now had a rather arrogant tone.
“Beautiful, this is a truck! Are you driving at 200 kilometers per hour?”
“If you think it’s slow, go ride in the off-road vehicle, that one can go up to 400!”
Only then did Pan Han realize that the vehicles in the apocalypse had such good performance!
“Do we still have enough fuel?”
“We just filled it with a full 10 liters before leaving! It’s definitely enough for a round trip!”
Holy cow! This truck, including the cans, must weigh at least 5 tons, plus it’s going so fast. A round trip of over 600 kilometers, and it won’t even use up 10 liters of fuel??
Pan Han realized something was wrong and quickly pulled out his small notebook, doing calculations on the side.
“At this weight and speed, in my world, it would need at least 30 liters of fuel per hundred kilometers. A round trip of 600 kilometers would be 180 liters. But here, it won’t even use up 10 liters! That means, 1 liter of gasoline in the apocalypse is equivalent to at least 20 liters in my world!” Pan Han’s hands started to tremble as he calculated!
“Holy cow, I’m going to get rich again!”
