46: On-set emergency
Hearing Yan Xiaoli say that, Pan Han's little brother defiantly perked up.
He was slightly embarrassed and quickly covered himself with his clothes. Yan Xiaoli felt something pressing against her, looked down, and couldn't help but laugh.
Fortunately, the surrounding audience was all drawn to Ximen Qing, and no one noticed the two of them.
Pan Han quickly calmed down and pulled Yan Xiaoli away.
"I'm a bit tired, let's find a place to eat and drink first," Yan Xiaoli said.
"Alright, but we need to save some room in our stomachs, we still need to eat protein later."
Yan Xiaoli was more familiar with the film studio, so she led the way. The two bought some street snacks and finally found a street-side cafe to sit down.
Pan Han ordered two iced Americanos, while Yan Xiaoli devoured roasted sausages and stinky tofu.
"Do you always diet when you're filming? Why are you eating stinky tofu one piece after another?"
Pan Han couldn't help but ask, seeing her gobbling it down.
"Of course, it's a female actress's self-cultivation. I only eat one meal a day now and don't touch staple foods at all. I'm starving to death."
Pan Han thought to himself, actors also have their own struggles behind the scenes; it's not easy for any of them.
"By the way, what kind of theme are you shooting this time?" Pan Han asked casually.
"This theme is awesome!" Yan Xiaoli stopped eating immediately when the topic of work came up, wiped her mouth, and said.
"Oh? Tell me about it." Pan Han lit a cigarette and then lit one for Yan Xiaoli.
"This time, it's funded by an internet company, and we're shooting an apocalypse-themed drama!"
"Pfft!" Pan Han spat out a mouthful of iced Americano.
"Awesome, right!"
"Come on, let me interview you. What exactly is so 'awesome' about this 'bi' you're talking about?"
"Get lost, be serious." Yan Xiaoli kicked Pan Han hard.
"Alright, alright, let's talk about work, seriously." In fact, Pan Han particularly admired her attitude towards work; for her, the play was absolutely paramount.
"Recently, various one-minute-per-episode series have been popular on short video platforms. A boss invested several million to have us shoot an apocalypse-themed one, shooting about ten episodes a day," Yan Xiaoli began to explain.
"Hmm, I know, the first few episodes are free, and then you have to recharge to watch more."
"Exactly, that kind. This time it's an apocalypse script, telling the story of the male protagonist traveling to the apocalypse, building a base, and killing zombies."
When Pan Han heard this, wasn't this just himself?
"Where are you in the shooting process now?"
"The protagonist has now controlled a city and is preparing for the final showdown with the second villain."
"Sounds exciting!"
"It has to be."
"What role are you playing?"
"I play the female team doctor of the protagonist's base, responsible for treating people and performing surgeries. You might not believe it, but I look really good in a white coat."
Pan Han thought to himself, isn't this the second sister of Dawn Squad?
"I don't believe it, show me tonight." Pan Han said.
"Tsk, believe it or not, I'm not showing you anything!" Yan Xiaoli said, then laughed and kicked him again.
The two chatted and ate like this, and soon it was six in the evening.
"Let's go! Back to the hotel, I've already booked a suite." Pan Han called Yan Xiaoli when he saw the time was about right.
"Let's go, but we need to rest early tonight. Tomorrow's scene is a big battle between two sides, and someone gets injured, so I have a lot of screen time."
"Don't worry, a few thrusts from me and you'll be fast asleep."
"Get lost!"
...
"Damn it! We're going to be late!" Yan Xiaoli woke up with a start, her hair disheveled, and yelled after looking at her watch.
Pan Han, beside her, groggily opened his eyes and checked the time; it was only 6 AM.
Last night, the two of them had been at it until past midnight. Yan Xiaoli said no, but she couldn't control her body.
Pan Han was truly too magnificent; Yan Xiaoli wished she could devour him.
Without waiting for Pan Han to speak, Yan Xiaoli quickly got out of bed, staggering to wash up and put on makeup.
Half an hour later, the two got into a taxi.
Yan Xiaoli said regretfully, "It's all your fault, you made me late."
As she spoke, she quickly touched up her makeup.
Pan Han gave a wry smile and had no choice but to hand the driver 50 yuan, asking him to speed up.
The driver took the money, thanked his boss, and instantly transformed into a veteran driver, pressing the accelerator to the floor.
"When we get to the set later, don't say anything, just watch. I'll say hello to the Assistant Director, and if they're temporarily short on extras, you can fill in," Yan Xiaoli instructed Pan Han.
"No problem, I promise not to cause any trouble for you."
"Don't worry, miss, I've also worked as an extra before, I know the rules of the set, I won't let you be late," the driver reassured Yan Xiaoli when he heard they were going to film.
"Good job, uncle!" Pan Han praised.
...
Ten minutes later, they arrived at the set. Pan Han looked into the distance and saw dozens of people already gathered.
Yan Xiaoli, meanwhile, left him and went to the makeup trailer to find the makeup artist.
Pan Han found a large tree, smoking and watching everyone busy themselves.
The set had already been decorated by the production and props team to resemble an apocalypse street, with old objects placed everywhere. Some people were lighting several fires nearby, and there were also people specifically in charge of smoke.
At this moment, the director arrived, a man in his twenties, over 1.9 meters tall, but weighing no more than 70 kilograms.
"He wouldn't be Fatty Tuo, would he?" Pan Han looked at the director, and a character from Jin Yong's novels came to mind.
The Assistant Director, script supervisor, and a few others gathered around the director, beginning to discuss today's shooting plan.
In a blink of an eye, it was 7:30, everyone was present, and the cameraman began to adjust the equipment, ready at any moment.
The director called over the main actors for this scene, explained the play, and prepared to start shooting.
"Attention everyone! Please be quiet. apocalypse Hero, Episode 17, Scene 3, Take 1, Action!" As the director gave the command, everyone began to perform.
Pan Han carefully observed Yan Xiaoli; she stood behind the male protagonist, nervously watching the male protagonist and the enemy opposite him.
Although the camera angle temporarily couldn't capture her face, she still made sure to fully express her emotions.
"Not bad, she's really serious about acting," Pan Han praised to himself.
"Cut! Next shot, stunt double prepare." After about ten takes, the dramatic scenes were done, and now it was time for the action scenes.
Two stunt doubles, wearing the male protagonist's and male villain's clothes, got into position, ready to wait for the director to yell "Action."
"Action!"
Upon hearing the director's command, the two stunt doubles immediately began their choreographed fight, back and forth.
In this scene, the male protagonist was supposed to be kicked away by the villain, requiring the use of wires.
After the two had exchanged about ten moves, the villain launched a flying kick, striking the protagonist's chest. The stunt double made a backward arching motion, and the staff behind him immediately pulled the wire, hoisting him about 3 meters off the ground.
The stunt double had to perform graceful movements in the air while also shouting his lines.
"Damn, how does he know Foshan Shadowless Kick?"
Pan Han listened from afar, almost laughing out loud. What kind of crappy screenwriter was this, truly pulling things out of thin air.
Just as he was chuckling to himself, he heard a gasp from the crowd on the set.
Pan Han's gaze sharpened; it turned out the wire had snapped, and the stunt double fell from the air, lying on the ground, covering his foot and groaning in pain.
The director, Assistant Director, and others quickly rushed over to check the stunt double's injuries.
"It's over, it should be a fracture. Send him to the hospital quickly," the director said, looking at the stunt double.
Someone nearby quickly got up to drive, and two more hands were freed to carry the stunt double away.
Fortunately, the injury wasn't severe, and such incidents are very common among stunt performers.
"Assistant Director, are there any other stunt doubles?"
The person had been sent away, but the shooting schedule couldn't be delayed, the director asked with a hint of urgency.
"Director, we spent over ten days selecting this stunt double. He's similar in height to the protagonist and has good skills. It's not easy to find someone immediately now," the Assistant Director said.
"Isn't that what you do? You only know how to chase girls, but you don't know how to save a few more stunt doubles' phone numbers? I don't care, go find someone for me immediately," the director was clearly a bit angry.
"Yes, yes, yes! I'll go find someone right away." The Assistant Director was at a loss, but he had to agree first.
At this moment, Yan Xiaoli quietly walked up to the Assistant Director.
"Assistant Director, I told you before that I have a friend visiting the set today. He's about the same height as the protagonist, how about we give him a try?"
"Oh? How are his skills?"
"Don't worry, he's into fitness, so he's in great shape. These moves are a piece of cake for him."
"Quickly call him over to take a look."
"Okay."
After Yan Xiaoli finished speaking, she dialed Pan Han's number: "Come over quickly, it's an emergency on set."
