16: Arm Yourself

After chatting with Yan Xiaoli, Pan Han pondered over what had just happened, feeling that something was off. His intuition told him that there must be something fishy going on. Since he had thought of this, he might as well go to the apocalypse and ask the team members. They were constantly living on the edge, so they should know a lot.

Space fluctuated, and Pan Han traveled through.

This time, he still traveled to the single room on the second floor of the base.

There was no one in the room, and no light; it was already dark outside.

Pan Han opened the door and walked downstairs to the first floor.

The six team members were eating in the hall on the first floor. The sixth member was standing guard outside.

Seeing Pan Han come down from upstairs, all six of them were a bit confused.

"Lord Pan, how did you get in?" Qin Zhong quickly stood up and asked.

"Order, you are not allowed to ask this question again," Pan Han said.

"Yes, Lord. I'm just worried about our security; if you can get in silently, others should be able to as well," Qin Zhong explained.

"Hmm, your concern is valid. But this matter is not urgent. What are you eating?" Pan Han smelled the food.

"We cooked some rice, and there's also pickled mustard, and we also grilled some luncheon meat," Qin Zhong said.

"Perfect, I haven't eaten either. Go get me a self-heating hotpot," Pan Han said.

The second sister, Bai Mei, immediately went to the storeroom to get something for Pan Han.

Qin Zhong gave Cheng Xiao a look, and Cheng Xiao immediately understood.

"Lord Pan, I'll help you heat it up," Cheng Xiao immediately took the hotpot and started preparing it.

"Thank you!" Pan Han said.

The six people were all stunned after hearing the words "thank you."

"What's wrong?" Pan Han noticed something unusual.

"Thank you, these two words, no one has said them for a long time," Qin Zhong said.

...

Pan Han didn't know what to say for a moment and stared blankly at the bonfire on the ground.

"Lord Pan, look at this thing," at this moment, Wang Yun handed Pan Han an object the size of a cup.

Pan Han took it in his hand and examined it. It was a black cylinder, quite heavy, with a folded tripod in the middle and a folded screen on the back.

"What is this?"

"This is an anti-tracker. You put it in your room, with this end facing the window and downstairs. Once someone takes a photo of your house, it can capture the information and immediately pinpoint which device took the photo, and at the same time, it can also take a photo of the sneak photographer as a record," Wang Yun introduced.

"Damn? There's such an awesome thing?"

"Haha, this thing is actually quite common. Before the apocalypse, there were many such strange inventions. Mainly celebrities used them to counter paparazzi sneak photos. More advanced ones could even emit lasers to burn out the other party's photosensitive components."

"Does it use electricity?"

"Yes, it can use batteries, or you can plug it into power. If you have nothing to do, just plug it in and let it keep monitoring. If there's a record, a red light will turn on to remind you, and you can also check who is secretly taking photos through the screen on the back."

"This treasure is good! Wang Yun, you did very well," Pan Han said in the tone of a gangster boss.

Wang Yun was a little embarrassed and scratched the back of his head.

"If you do well, you should be rewarded. Tell me, what do you want?" Pan Han asked.

"Lord Pan is joking. These are all things we should do. How dare we ask for any reward?"

"No, our team is going to accomplish great things. To do great things, we must rely on rules. Therefore, rewards and punishments must be clear," Pan Han said seriously.

"Lord Pan is right, Wang Yun, you speak," Qin Zhong said.

"Okay, Lord Pan. Then I want a bottle of whiskey," Wang Yun said.

"No problem, I'll bring it to you next time," Pan Han agreed without thinking.

"Thank you, Lord Pan."

"See, don't you all know how to say thank you?"

Everyone burst into laughter upon hearing this, and the atmosphere was filled with joy.

"Lord Pan, the hotpot is ready, here you go, eat it while it's hot," Cheng Xiao brought the hotpot over.

Pan Han took it and ate heartily.

After Cheng Xiao sat down, she took out her handgun and placed it in front of Pan Han.

"Lord Pan, I'll give you this gun. If there's danger, you can use it for self-defense. Since you suspect someone is following you, then be fully prepared."

Everyone listened and nodded in agreement.

Pan Han hadn't thought of this at all before. Because the country and city he was in were the safest places in the world. And gun control was very strict; ordinary people had no chance to touch such things.

However, Pan Han thought for a moment. He had space, and if he put the gun there, no one would be able to find it. Moreover, even if he had no choice but to shoot and kill someone, he could put the body and bullet casings into his space, and then dump them in the apocalypse, unnoticed.

"Alright," Pan Han picked up the handgun and fiddled with it a few times.

"There are also two magazines, plus the one in the gun, making a total of three. Each magazine holds 15 rounds, for a total of 45 rounds. That should be enough for your emergency self-preservation," Cheng Xiao continued.

"You give this to me, what will you use?"

"We have many backup firearms and ammunition. I'll just pick another one."

"Oh? That's good then. Oh right, how many weapons do you have on hand now?" Pan Han suddenly became interested.

"Big and small, there are about 50 of them in total, and about 20,000 rounds of ammunition. There are also dozens of grenades, more than a dozen anti-personnel mines, and a batch of rifle grenades. We also previously collected a few crossbows, and over 200 arrows," Qin Zhong said.

"Is that enough?"

"If a real fight breaks out, it might only last two small skirmishes before it's gone."

"Hmm, it seems we need to stockpile weapons."

"Right. You asked me to make a plan before. How about I take this opportunity to report it?"

"Okay. Tell me."

"If our base expands to accommodate 100 people, the current living space will definitely not be enough. Our place used to be a villa area, and there are more than a dozen other villas around, currently empty. We estimate that they can accommodate up to 800 people. From a security perspective, it's best to build a wall to enclose all these dozen houses. This would require a large amount of materials and labor," Qin Zhong said.

"Right. But this can be done slowly. Are the materials for your wall easy to find?" Pan Han asked.

"The simplest is sheet metal, which is easy to get. For an upgrade, a concrete wall would be more reassuring," Qin Zhong said.

"Hmm. Continue."
